Oak Grove COE, De Queen, Arkansas

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful park in a secluded and very quiet area on DeQueen Lake about 8 miles from town. Extremely clean facilities. Very polite and professional camp hosts. I stayed in the section near the boat ramp, which is newer and sites are paved, level, and well separated. Nice shade throughout the park. We camped at Oak Grove COE in a Motorhome.

Big Meadow Family Campground, Townsend, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Very professional employees/hosts. NICE laundromat, bathrooms, and showers. I chose this park because of the security and I was very pleased. Sites are pretty close together, but smooth and level. There is a variety of site types - some concrete, some gravel, but almost 100% pull-throughs. We camped at Big Meadow Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Just a few miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park entrance. Good restaurants in town, but can't walk or bike to them without getting on the busy highway for about 200yds. EXCELLENT bicycle trail the full length of Townsend, with access to everything.

Dinosaur Valley State Park, Glen Rose, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is the most quiet campground I've ever stayed in. The weather was unusually warm for January and the campground was completely full. At 8pm both nights, I walked my dogs and could not heard a sound - no traffic noise in the distance, no noisy neighbors, no airplanes overhead - just peaceful quiet.

Plenty of maneuvering space for my 40ft 5th wheel (all sites are back in). My site was smooth and level. Several small parking lots to park your tow vehicle or toad. Sidewalks through the trees to the restroom/ shower building so you don't have to walk all the way around the loop if you prefer.

VERY clean restrooms, showers, dump station, and no litter seen anywhere.

MANY very nice walking, biking, hiking trails. I didn't visit the campground store.

Courteous and professional park employees. We camped at Dinosaur Valley State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Big Cup Cafe in Glen Rose just a few miles from the park is a great value - comfort food at very reasonable prices.

Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, Mathis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Nightly rate is monthly plus metered electric divided by 30 days. Entry road is a little rough, but it is paved. Roads in the park are gravel or dirt and dusty, but easy to get in and out of sites. Big rig friendly. Nicest staff you will ever meet. Lots of year-round residents, but lots of pride of ownership and no junky sites whatsoever. Constant new projects while we were there, including new dog park, new shower/laundry building, and adding about 50 new sites that should be ready by summer 2014. Many activities including bingo, guitar groups, exercise groups, pot luck dinners, nice library. Lots of campers have golf carts. We would definitely go back. We camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Springhill COE, Barling, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly and helpful staff. Huge mature trees, so lots of shade after mid-March. Side A is more manicured with sites closer together, fewer trees, but close to the water. Side B is more hilly, with many trees and sites farther apart. All sites are back-in and some 90 degrees to the road, so they are more difficult to get into if you're not a skilled backer-upper. Restrooms have a push-button water supply with no control over the temp, but are reasonable, and showers are individual rooms with locks. Limited to 2 weeks per site, but extensions are possible. Very close to lots of shopping and restaurants in Fort Smith, but far enough out of town to avoid most of the noise. Military aircraft do fly over frequently, though. Mama's Cafe in nearby Barling is a must - meatloaf or chicken & dumpling specials are YUM. We camped at Springhill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Colfax Recreation Area RV Park & Campground, Colfax, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2012 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We called ahead and made reservations based on previous reviews, and we were very pleased. Courteous staff, clean park/restrooms/showers, and like-new facilities including lighted boat ramp and slips, and fish cleaning station. We stayed for a month and it suited us just fine, but there is only 1 place to eat or buy groceries in Colfax and you'll have to go to Alexandria if you want more selection (30 minutes away). The trees are not mature, so don't plan on shade in the summer. We will definitely stay here again! We camped at Colfax Recreation Area RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
