Hickory Hollow Campground, Rockwood, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed for five days in our 5th wheel. All campsites looked very level. We had a beautiful view of the hillside and pond area. Very quiet campground and nice bath house with large, hot showers. My family loved fishing in the pond and fished every day we were there in between sightseeing the surrounding areas. The town of Somerset was very quaint and had lots of great places to eat, we never had a bad meal! The pool was small but kept up well. Visited Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, and Flight 93 Memorial. The Flight 93 Memorial was not on our original itinerary but so glad we went, as it was very emotional. Overall a very nice camping area that we will go back to again! We camped at Hickory Hollow Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Kings Family Restaurant had the BEST burgers ever! Yamato Steak House of Japan had great sushi (believe it or not in a small country town). Fallingwater is a sight to see as is the FLight 93 Memorial.

Virginia Beach KOA, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $103.00
Overall Rating:

We were here the 2nd week of June and stayed in our usual spot, #34 in the big rig area next to the store. The campsite was good and doesn't collect a lot of rain or have too much sun with the large tree overhead. The bathrooms are close by and clean. Our only and BIGGEST complaint with this years stay was the pool. We were hugely disappointed that the large pool was only open on the weekend (we stayed a week but only through one weekend). The is one of our favorite attractions of this campground, and to find out that they didn't staff it during the weekdays, in JUNE, was irritating to say the least! This was past Memorial Day and thus most pools are open full time in VA after that date! The pool was something we were looking forward to and instead had to use the smaller pool designated for kids with the slides emptying into it. This pool was a warmer temp and not refreshing at all. Not too mention the weekend day that we could go to the large pool, the KOA rented out their pavilion area to a large group that took over the small pool and were very rowdy. KOA workers had to speak to them several times and eventually the "rental guests" left the pool area. I think everyone at the pool sighed a moment of relief! I don't like giving such a harsh review, but we were really angry with this last stay. My husband was going to use that pool for physical therapy after a recent surgery, and it would have been perfect for that, had we been able to go to it more than 1 time. This place goes out of its way to warn potential guests about the the jet noise (after getting harsh reviews for years), why didn't they tell us the pool ( a main attraction) was not usable during the week! I know from speaking to others at the pool, we weren't the only ones upset by this. FYI....I did try to contact management while staying there and was given the run around by staff. We visited the competing campground across the street and will be staying there our next time at VB! We camped at Virginia Beach KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

For restaurants go to Jakes for BBQ, Waterman's for seafood or Captain Georges for an expensive feast! We have been going to these places for over 10 years....can't beat em'!

Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA, Gaffney, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at this campground for 6 days while scouting out Greenville for a future move. Our site faced a nice field and the highway was off in the distance. Highway noise could be heard, but not obnoxious. Our site (57) was great with a patio, large gas grill, swing, patio table w chairs, and fire ring. Some of the patio pavers were broken but still a nice site with hardly anyone around us. Most of the week we had the area to ourselves, with one camper come in and stay overnight. Overall quiet campground with only a few golf carts riding around and that was mostly the staff. Bathrooms were clean although smelled very musty and pool was nice but needed to be cleaned in the deep end. Open areas were nice for walking our dogs and so was the dog park. The campground was kept up well and the staff was very friendly. We were a little hesitant to stay here base on other reviews pertaining to these issues, but I found this to be a nice campground and would stay there again! Some of the sites near the camp store and pool are heavily treed and closer together but if you stay on the side facing the open area (sites 68-81) you will have plenty of room to open your slide outs, etc. ! We camped at Spartanburg NE / Gaffney KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Misty Mountain Camp Resort, Greenwood, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a long weekend while visiting Monticello. It was only a 2o minute drive over there which was super convenient. The campground is close to the highway and easy to maneuver on the lower ground sites; never went to the higher elevation sites that are up the hill.

All of the hook-ups were at the back end of the site and the sites were a bit close together. Bathrooms were clean and nice but you have to walk up a hill to get to them. Pool was great and has a fun splash area for kids. I liked the overall openness of the area and everything appeared to be well kept. Some of the campers were partiers and we noticed drinking with some folks being loud. Our second night, there were visitors from outside of the campground with 3 loud cars that did "donuts" in the field across from us. I was nervous they were going to run into our truck at 11:15pm at night. This was just after the nightly entertainment ended, which was a band that played way too long. Quiet hours are not early enough and there is no one that we saw from the campground riding around to check on things. It's a shame, because we really liked the area for future visits and the campground was nice, but the party atmosphere was a turn off for us. We camped at Misty Mountain Camp Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
