Sands of Time Campground, Avon, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a good place to stay on the Outer Banks if you like an old time feel. It is very convenient to Rout 12, and Avon is a bit low key compared to the towns to the north. The facility is kept clean and is fairly quiet, which we appreciated. The restrooms and showers were clean but old. The owners are around and friendly and helpful. It's a short bike ride to the ocean or the sound. No campfires, and an add-on charge for electricity. Business is done in cash. We would consider returning, but we really liked Ocracoke and would head for the National Park campground there in the future. We camped at Sands of Time Campground in a Travel Trailer.

By all means, take the free ferry to Ocracoke and eat at Howard's. If you are there in the summer season, be ready for crowds.

Navarre Beach Campground, Navarre, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great campground and cottage colony for people with children, who would enjoy the pool, hot tub, basketball, shuffle board and more. The area of our site was extremely close to other sites. There seemed to be larger sites, with higher fees, closer to the shore front. At the shore, there is a long pier as well as swing sets and chairs for guests. The shore front adjacent to the park was very uninviting, with little or no sand and seaweed and other debris present. The employees are extremely courteous and helpful, and the laundry was very clean. We look for more peaceful and private camp sites, so we do not plan to return. We camped at Navarre Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Meteor Crater RV Park, Winslow, Arizona

Great place for a stop over while traveling. Clean as can be, all sites are raked perfectly, manager/owner could not be nicer. There is a 5 cent discount per gallon at the adjacent gas station. We camped at Meteor Crater RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town (formerly Sam's Town Casino & RV Park) , Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stop at this rv park every year on our way to Valley of Fire State Park. It used to be pretty nice, when it was owned by Sam's Club. Now it's just old and worn out. The pool and hot tub area were run down, and the showers were minimally acceptable. There's much work to be done here. We camped at Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town (formerly Sam's Town Casino & RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Pismo State Beach - Oceano Campground, Oceano, California

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Ready to begin our stay at this rv park, we approached the entry booth about 20 minutes before check-in time, staff told us we had to wait until the stated check-in time. We can understand that, especially if park attendants were raking and cleaning the site in anticipation of our arrival. Looking around the disheveled sites we could see, we doubted that this was the case. We asked if we could just drive through to see our reserved site. After much complaining and whining, staff agreed to our request with the caveat that if we stayed more than a few minutes, we would be charged for another night. What a unique way to deal with a customer. We drove in to view our allocated site and were amazed to see a party consisting of at least six tents and three cars camping next to what would be our site. So much for the RULES in this park. We drove back to the entry booth and asked if we could change sites, since we did not want to settle down next to what amounted to a small town. Well this almost put staff over the top. He read us 23 rules which prohibited us from changing sites. Finally, he caved and gave us the numbers of two available sites. We picked one and settled down in a campground with portable toilets stationed around the park, overflowing dumpsters, and very few campers since it had been raining for at least two days. The continuous rains may have affected our view of this park, but we think the facilities and personnel were way below par. Obviously, we don't plan to return. We camped at Pismo State Beach - Oceano Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Faywood Hot Springs, Faywood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We camped in site #1, which was level and had some privacy. The person working in the reception area was friendly and welcoming. The soaking tubs and hot springs were wonderful. We would use the term "funkadacious" to describe this park. Wonderful in it's own singular way. The only thing we could hope for is some upgrading of the roads and general fixing up (although there was plenty of fresh paint and cleanliness) to enhance what is already pretty great. We would return. We camped at Faywood Hot Springs in a Travel Trailer.

Pecan Park Riverside RV , San Marcos, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Our welcome at this park was friendly and efficient. We thought we had a "riverside" site, but between us and the river was a huge open field in the process of being cleared and graded - perhaps more sites. The heated pool and above ground hot tub are indeed here; but suffer, like the showers and other parts of this park, from age and many years of use. Deferred maintenance is a great description of the shortcomings here. We would not plan to return. We camped at Pecan Park Riverside RV in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice front office staff. Sites are fairly close, with a little bit of landscaping. The pool and hot tub were great. The showers and bathrooms were clean. The pizza that was delivered to our site was awesome! We camped at Braunig Lake RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Isle of Iberia RV Resort (formerly Cajun RVera), New Iberia, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

This campground has the best pool ever. It is shaped in swirls and semi circles, and propels you around without any effort by the swimmer. It seemed that the pool is open to the public for a fee. The sites are placed on a big parking lot, with no discernible landscaping. There are piles of construction debris scattered around. The front office staff is very helpful. The pool is the only reason we might return. We camped at Isle of Iberia RV Resort (formerly Cajun RVera) in a Travel Trailer.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of those campgrounds that looks better on paper than in person. We were placed in a site on the water, which we appreciated. The chap who showed us to our site was fabulous. On the other hand, the pool was freezing, and the jacuzzi was above ground, much like a jacuzzi people might have in their backyard. The waterfall was totally unimpressive. The showers and bathroom had cement floors, dreary and dark, but seemed clean. The proximity to the French Quarter is a big plus. Yes, approaching the campground is a bit scary, as others have said. We would stay here again if we wanted to visit New Orleans. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Travel Trailer.

The Joint is good for ribs, and not touristy at all. Banana Foster is a must at Brennan's - but don't go in cut offs!

Dogwood Acres Campground, Newville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Dogwood for an overnite. We appreciated the Passport America rate. Perhaps because we were just there for a night, we were placed very, very close to another camper. The site was level. The showers were clean. The campground itself has a lake and a pool. On the other hand, we found the owner to be quite a bit more directive than necessary, verging on annoying. She was sure our GPS directions weren't as good as hers (they were fine), and once at the site, she actually proceeded to point out where the water hook up was!! We were glad when she left us in peace. We would return for an overnite spot. We camped at Dogwood Acres Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Potrero County Park, Potrero, California

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is a pretty park for an overnite stay. There is some space between sites, and there are lot's of trees. We saw a ranger briefly once when some goats from a nearby farm came for a visit. This park is very close to the Mexican border at Tecate.

The restrooms were old but clean, and the showers were old, rusty, and had peeling paint. If we were going to Tecate, we would probably return. We camped at Potrero County Park in a Travel Trailer.

In Tecate, Mexico there is a fabulous restaurant for lunch or dinner called Asao. It is part of a hotel. It is worth a trip to Tecate just to have a 3 hour lunch at Asao, like we did.

Lake Morena County Park, Campo, California

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

When we arrived, the park was jammed full. When we left it was empty. So we saw it both ways. The sites are close together, on dark sand. The lake had seen better times, much better times. I think it is about one quarter of it's original size. The boats for rent were somewhat pathetic with useless weights on thin rope for anchors. They were also quite beat up. So much for fishing. The restrooms and showers were built of cinderblock with cement flooring that looked very uninviting. Actually the building looked like something you would see in an abandoned military facility. We do not plan to return. We camped at Lake Morena County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stinkin' Jim's Horse Park and Campground, Houston, Mississippi

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Talk about personality, Stinkin' Jim's takes the cake. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. It was New Years, and they had great parties to which we were invited.
We did not see bathrooms or showers, our campsite was anything but level, just a post with water and electric on grass/dirt. The were lots of rv's and horse trailers, maybe their campsites were better...If you like to pet horses and feed them carrots, this is the place for you. We camped at Stinkin' Jim's Horse Park and Campground in a Travel Trailer.
