Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

This is your old fashion KOA - a destination family park: kinda rustic, kinda modern, kinda quaint and very woodsy. Staff very helpful and friendly. We had a problem with enough voltage to run our ac (site 24). They found a site that had plenty of power and we moved. This is not only an entertaining destination but a place to stay while visiting a very popular historic sight: Gettysburg National Military Park. They serve very reasonably priced and delicious breakfasts on the weekends. We camped at Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA in a Motorhome.

Liberty Harbor RV Park, Jersey City, New Jersey

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $88.00
Overall Rating:

Most of the previous criticism is valid. The additional problem we had was low voltage during high A/C use times. It was exceptionally hot during our stay so everyone was running their ac all the time. They did move us to a different site (A22), but that site had a power post that serviced three sites and worked only some of the time. The park is basically under-powered - a condition we are finding more frequently. The older parks were not designed to accommodate the power hungry larger RVs and apparently don't want to go to the extra expense of upgrading. The park has a feeling of being managed by a slum landlord. The only reason to endure these miserable accommodations made worse with no sewer hookups is the location - close to NYC, Ellis Island, and Statue of Liberty. Lots of construction of high rise structures adjacent to the park will impinge on the marina flavor of park surroundings. That being said, the office staff were very friendly and helpful. They do their best to deal with challenging circumstances. Jersey City appears to be trying to spruce up its appearance and there are some gems in the city, mostly restaurants who choose not to compete with NY by blending elegance with down home friendliness. We camped at Liberty Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Outstanding restaurants are the Halifax in the W Hotel, and the Latham House. The bus tour (half or whole day) of Manhattan arranged by the park office is an excellent way to see the major sights.

Old Mill Stream Campground, Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

This wooded park has many limitations noted by previous reviewers but it is popular with young families wanting to give their children a fun experience at the adjacent amusement park. The other reason to stay here is to visit this Amish area. Wifi is provided by Tangointernet which we find to be cumbersome to use and not secure (no password). Staff is friendly and helpful. The amusement park and campground are served by one exit which can be jammed with guests who are leaving. There is a large flock of geese sharing the grassy area next to the creek with tenters: a mess for them to deal with. They can spill over onto the roadway serving these tent camping sites as well as the sites on that loop, providing messy obstacles for youngsters riding their bikes and trikes. However, the fireflies in that area provide a beautiful light show at dusk. We camped at Old Mill Stream Campground in a Motorhome.

Philadelphia South KOA (formerly Timberlane Campground), Clarksboro, New Jersey

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

This new KOA is a pleasant place to stay to enjoy a woodsy environment or to tour the Philly area. Distance from the freeway is close enough to make access easy yet far enough to silence the noise. Wifi is unreliable: either too slow or nonexistent. Staff is helpful. Satellite reception will be a challenge because of the trees. We enjoyed our stay here while visiting the historic Philadelphia. We camped at Philadelphia South KOA (formerly Timberlane Campground) in a Motorhome.

Cherry Hill Park, College Park, Maryland

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

This park is excellent in nearly every respect: great entertainment value for families and close to DC for travelers. Very friendly and helpful staff. It is a metro bus stop connecting the park to the College Park metro rail station - a big plus for tourists who want to avoid the grueling gridlock of DC traffic and finding scarce parking. The night D.C. tours offered are a great service. The angled placement of sites adds to the "openness" of a wooded urban park. Trees will make satellite reception for some sites impossible. The gate system makes the park secure yet easy to navigate. Wifi is free but not secured with a password. The biggest drawback is its location adjacent to a very busy freeway. Some people will be able to ignore the noise better than others. We really enjoyed our stay here. We camped at Cherry Hill Park in a Motorhome.

Washington DC / Capitol KOA, Millersville, Maryland

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Nice woodsy park with the usual KOA services. Freeway noise is noticeable and detracts from the forest environment. No cable tv and satellite reception is possible only in the open pull through sites. Staff is friendly and helpful. We experienced drops in voltage at our site which resulted in the surge protector shutting down the ac. Park tech tried to fix it but couldn't stating they had no control over the power coming into the park and some coaches are more sensitive to voltage irregularities. We were forced to find another park. We were refunded the charges for the remainder of our stay with no resistance. The park provides shuttle service into DC - a nice service though a rough and noisy ride. We camped at Washington DC / Capitol KOA in a Motorhome.

Charlottesville KOA, Charlottesville, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical KOA Park with all the amenities they typically offer and it is in a beautiful wooded setting. The draw here is a pleasant forest camping retreat or visiting the many historic sights in the area. Staff is friendly and helpful. A staff member pointed out several sites where Verizon reception might be possible, but it was very weak and unusable for all practical purposes. We managed to get Dish satellite reception from our site but many sites would not. We had a choice of sites and the staff identified the one that had the best possibility of getting reception. We did with the assistance of a stand and a picnic table to support our portable antenna. The hand dipped ice cream in the store is delicious! We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Monticello is the big draw here for obvious reasons but don't miss Montpelier and Ashlawn-Highland if you have even a passing interest in our founding fathers. We enjoyed the food and rustic environment of Michie Tavern. The "behind the scenes " tour at Monticello is worth the extra money.

Americamps RV Resort (formerly Richmond North / Americamps KOA), Ashland, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This pleasant wooded campground reflects its KOA heritage with all the amenities sans cabins. Part of its attraction is being on the snowbird trail adjacent to i95 which brings with it lots of traffic noise. It will challenge your ability to convert it to innocuous white noise. Still, if you're looking for more than a brief stopover, there is much to see and do. The area is rich with historic attractions. Staff is friendly and helpful. Wifi is strong. Laundry is adequate. Showers and restrooms are clean and pleasant to use. Satellite reception is site dependent. Lots of cable channels, but they are fuzzy analog. Strong hidef reception of major networks over-the-air except PBS. Useful enclosed dog park. Some may think a free waffle breakfast is a perk, but your better off paying an establishment that specializes in waffles. We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at Americamps RV Resort (formerly Richmond North / Americamps KOA) in a Motorhome.

American Heritage RV Park, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

Very pleasant park to stay while touring the historic triangle or just relaxing with friends and family. Easy access, friendly staff and level cemented sites and patios. Sites are close yet are staggered to provide a feeling of space. Roads are narrow which makes entering and leaving a site a challenge for longer rvs. The trees provide shade and a challenge to get satellite reception. Wifi is adequate for limited use. Observing fireflies at dusk was a real bonus. We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

OBX Campground, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $67.00
Overall Rating:

This small, secluded park is off the main drag offering protection from the wind, close proximity to an inlet, and quiet camping. It is close to the main tourist draw: the Wright Brothers National Memorial; and the main summer getaway draw: the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks is loaded with commercial enterprises to assist travelers who are here briefly or long term. Park sites are spacious and mostly level. Staff is friendly and helpful. Wifi is adequate. Laundry facilities are not: two washers (one not working) and two driers. No cable tv, but plenty of open sky for satellite reception on most sites-especially the eastern sites . We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at OBX Campground in a Motorhome.

Tanglewood Park Campground, Clemmons, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This county park is huge and has a lot to offer in the way of activities and the community takes advantage of this gem. The RV section is a small part of the park, but it to is popular and very attractive. Heavily wooded and spacious sites. Large and well designed dog park. Friendly staff. Close to the many sights Winston-Salem has to offer. Though the trees prevent satellite reception, the park has an extensive selection of cable channels in hi-definition! A rare bonus. We enjoyed our stay here. We camped at Tanglewood Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Asheville's Bear Creek RV Park & Campground, Asheville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

What this park has going for it is its location: the Biltmore, the cool, dryer climate, a beautiful wooded environment and the sights of Asheville. I concur with the negative comments from other reviewers. Additionally, the laundry facility is woefully small (2 washers, 2 dryers) for this size park and functioning poorly: the dryers were not vented to outside the building. The wifi is adequate, but slows down during busy usage. Half the tree shading our site was dead and in need of major trimming. The traffic noise is very noticeable , but not strong enough to interfere with intimate conversations though loud enough to mask the noise of barking dogs, lawn mowers and other landscaping activities. The sites that are on the bluff have a nice view. An adequate place to stay as long as you don't require the services of an onsite laundry. We camped at Asheville's Bear Creek RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Glenwood Acres RV Park, Concord, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This small park is primarily for manufactured homes with a few spaces set aside for RVs. The number of sites available are made up mostly of dry camping sites in an open field. It's very basic - no showers, restrooms, laundry facilities nor cable tv. Cash only. Wifi, however, is good. Owner is friendly and gave us a "Mr. Toads" wild ride on his golf cart to pick out the site we wanted. Good location for race fans or for travelers visiting the area. Lots of shopping in the area and quite accessible from major highways. We camped at Glenwood Acres RV Park in a Motorhome.
