Burlington Bay was my first RV trip of the season. I had a site facing Lake Superior, which was absolutely gorgeous. A long rocky beach was just about twenty steps down. I enjoyed wonderful quite time down there. It is a city-run campground so amenities are few. The only critical comment was the condition of the bathroom on my final morning there, but I called after I left and they were very apologetic and said they cleaned it up. Let's just say that some people are just animals and the campground can't help that. I will be back, but next time I need to bring a bike so I can bike into Two Harbors or up to Betty's Pies.

After a disastrous experience at a nearby campground I called and to my pleasant surprise found this campground had openings. What a welcome relief. This KOA wasn't right on the interstate as many are - about three miles off - and it was beautiful and welcoming. Their main lodge was just rebuilt a couple years ago. The staff was very sympathetic, led me right to my site, and made sure I got situated, delivering me firewood and kindling. Nice Kamping Kabins and tent sites. My wife and teenage daughters arrived later and we had a great time. There was an ice cream social that evening and a hayride. We will definitely be back to this campground. It is the best park of anywhere I have stayed near Duluth.

I arrived late on a Friday evening. It was quite difficult to find, but this was due to road construction and detours, a common Minnesota phenomenon. Upon arrival, I find this is primarily a seasonal campground with many dilapidated trailers and unkempt sites. Bent Trout Lake was small, but beautiful. I had site #3 which was a back-in site. My backing into the site made more difficult by three sheriffs breaking up a drunken domestic disturbance. Again, this wasn't a situation the park could help. The bathrooms were filthy and old, with spiders everywhere. I knew if my wife and daughters joined me the next day our family camping days would be over, so I only stayed one night of my stay and thankfully found a site at another campground. This points up a common problem with seasonal campgrounds - they don't try as hard anymore, and that was definitely what I found here. This campground desperately needs to step into the 21st Century then maybe it won't look like a set from Friday the 13th.
