S & W RV Park, Shallotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is tough to rate. The owners are kind and hospitable, and the grounds are clean. Many of the sites are occupied by full time residents. Basically, it's 50 sites for full hook-ups with nothing else. There are no bathrooms, showers, or laundry. Since all we needed was a place to park the RV while at the beach, it worked well. However, I can't see it being a great place for families with young kids needing things to do while at the campground. If heading to Holden or Ocean Isle Beach again, we would consider staying here again. We camped at S & W RV Park in a Motorhome.

Many beaches within a 20 minute drive. The sign on the main road said Myrtle beach was only 37 miles away. Southport is about 35 minutes away and worth the drive.

Boone KOA, Boone, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was quite packed the weekend we stayed, but our 36 foot rv with toad did fine. It's an older campground with many sites and some permanent units, but it is kept clean and tidy. It did have a pool and some play equipment for the kids (again, old). We spent most of our weekend sightseeing which gave us little time at our site. It was a good base camp for seeing the sites of Boone, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc. We camped at Boone KOA in a Motorhome.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort, Charlotte, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Other than as a base camp for Carowinds and Carolina Harbor, I do not understand the lure of this campground. We stayed multiple weeks on and off while waiting to move into our house, and it's not great. The laundry room contains 2 washers and 2 dryers for the entire campground which is completely unacceptable for the size of it. Not to mention the laundry room and bathrooms are dirty most of the time with sand and dirt all over the floor. It's obvious with the trash around that employees do not groom the sites after visitors leave and prior to the next guest's arrival. The campers were rude and walked through occupied campsites to get to the pool, office, and the front of the park. Watch out if you're in site 195 because it becomes the short cut for all those rude people. And those guests who live here tend to park on the road making it difficult to get a rv in and out. Only if we need to camp close to Charlotte again will we stay here. I would be remiss not to say that the staff are very friendly and helpful. In a pinch, they helped us find a place to stay. It's not the staff's fault that management does not require cleanliness. And it's not their fault that the campers here don't know camping etiquette 101. We camped at Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort in a Motorhome.

New Bern KOA, New Bern, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

We had a nice concrete pad with a patio, outdoor furniture, and a view of the water. Everything worked well (sewer, water, electrical, cable) and was clean. Pat, the manager and her staff are very friendly and helpful. They patrol the grounds often to keep it looking nice. The laundry room was clean as were the bathrooms. The park is geared towards families with younger children where there is a playground, jump, and a 3 1/2 feet deep pool. We camped at New Bern KOA in a Motorhome.

Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort , Emerald Isle, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

If you know what you are getting into, then all will be well. It's a typical on the beach campground with over 300 sites where everyone is packed in. The grounds are kept very clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. With that said, it is very busy in the summer and the campers, rvs, etc., are packed in like sardines. Since the crowded feeling is not necessarily what we enjoy as a family, our next visit will probably be in the off season. Also, we were in site yellow 17 right at the beach entrance. Know that other campers from sites farther away tend to rudely use the yellow section as a pass through to the beach path. That means you can anticipate having to ask people to stop walking through your campsite (I wouldn't want to be yellow 18). This is a huge pet peeve of ours, so it was annoying. Also, there are other miscellaneous charges for the campground that are helpful to know prior to arrival. For example, there is a fee for showing up a half-hour early, and cable is $3 extra per day. A load of laundry is $3.50 per load for washer and $2 to dry; and roads are not necessarily big rig friendly, so if you have to back in, make sure you know how to maneuver your coach and hope that your neighbor's vehicles are not blocking the road. However, once parked, there is enough room to open slides, awnings, etc. We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Cane Creek Park, Waxhaw, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice, spacious campground. We had site 39 with full hook-ups. Both of our cars fit in the site with plenty of room. My only discouragement was that the swim area was only open on the weekends *if* lifeguards area available -no exceptions. My children were disappointed. We camped at Cane Creek Park in a Motorhome.

Statesville / I-77 KOA, Statesville, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

I wanted to like this campground because the staff are so kind and helpful. However, the full hook-up sites are too close for comfort to your neighbor. We could hear everything the people in the next site were doing, saying, what they were eating, etc. In general, the campground is crowded. We've camped all over America and unfortunately this is one of our least favorite as a destination. It is close to the Lake Norman state park and about 40 minutes to Charlotte. The kids enjoyed the pool, and the laundry has great washers and dryers. This area has very few campgrounds, but we will stay again only if no other options. We camped at Statesville / I-77 KOA in a Motorhome.

Albert Lea / Austin KOA, Ada, Minnesota

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Ok for overnight stay while traveling east. The staff were very nice. The long, spacious sites had large trees. It's located far enough off the freeway not to hear noise, but close enough to get back on it quickly. All hook-ups worked well. We'd stay again if passing through. We camped at Albert Lea / Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

LaSalle / Peru KOA, Utica, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Not a destination campground;however, ok for one night. The lower level pull-throughs are spacious but have only water and sewer. There is a dump station on the way out that is on the wrong side, but a long hose is available. We faced a pretty creek, and the trees gave shade. The upper level full hook up sites appeared close together. The playground was old, but good for getting the wiggles out. The bathrooms were clean and modern. We camped at LaSalle / Peru KOA in a Motorhome.

Sleepy Hollow RV Park, Wall, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is in the heart of Wall, South Dakota. It's walking distance from Wall Drug. The dirt sites are long, but the sewer is located at the far rear of the site; with a car in tow, we had to use two hoses to make the sewer connection. We had a second car with us that fit easily on our site. The bathrooms are clean and so are laundry facilities, but it took many quarters to dry our clothes. The staff are super friendly and helpful. We would camp here again if passing through the area. We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Boise / Meridian KOA, Meridian, Idaho

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is well maintained, and the permanent residents' sites are clean and cared for. It is centrally located close to Boise and its suburbs in a decent area; whereas some of the other Boise suburb campgrounds are in questionable neighborhoods. The cable worked well, but we didn't use the bathrooms, laundry room, etc. We camped here for a month prior to moving across the country. My only complaint is how fast the cars move through the campground. We camped at Boise / Meridian KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Two hours to McCall, and three hours to Sun Valley area. Downtown Boise (8th St) is safe and has some good restaurants. Visit Ann Morrison Park downtown and float the Boise River in the summer. The old penitentiary and botanical gardens are nice. The Village on Eagle Road has good restaurants and shopping with water fountains, small play area, movie theater, and Big Als bowling/family fun.

Flagstaff KOA, Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is hidden off the main road between lots of pine trees. The setting is nice, but the sites are very close together and the roads are very narrow. We were able to maneuver our 36ft rv and tow vehicle, but would only stay again if other campgrounds are not available. There is lots of landscaping maintenance that needs to be done between the sites and in the park. We camped at Flagstaff KOA in a Motorhome.

Anthony/El Paso West KOA (formerly American RV & Marine Resort & Rally, Anthony, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This is definitely a no frills campground. There are three very long rows of rv spots that are basically a giant gravel parking lot. The water pressure was good. There are no trees, but each site has a picnic table. I can't see this park being anything other than a stop over for a night or two for non-permanent guests. The front office attendant was very nice. We would stay here again if passing through El Paso. We camped at Anthony/El Paso West KOA (formerly American RV & Marine Resort & Rally in a Motorhome.

Murfreesboro RV Park, Murfreesboro, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful camp hosts who are more than happy to help you succeed in digging for diamonds at the state park. The campground is small and there is only one pull through (site 9, I believe), but it is well maintained and clean. The host waited up for us to arrive fairly late (10pm) to escort us to our site. This campground is well suited for those visiting the Crater of Diamonds State Park as it is only one mile away. We would stay again if in the area. We camped at Murfreesboro RV Park in a Motorhome.

Solitude Pointe, Cleveland, South Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park close to lots of attractions in northern South Carolina. The owners are such a nice welcoming Christian family. It is a family run business where the children (when home from college) and grandmother help in the operations. They have a large book of things to do in the area and will photocopy any of the maps/brochures for you. Verizon cell coverage is very poor in the area-fyi. We weren't at our site very often, but would recommend to others and will stay again if in the area. We camped at Solitude Pointe in a Motorhome.
