Mad River Rapids RV Park, Arcata, California

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

The Good: California Welcome Center is around the corner. There is a good Mexican restaurant next to the park. The pool was warm, but didn’t go swimming. Restrooms semi-clean. Laundry worked and was $2.50 a load. The Bad: No Security. People from outside the park came in to use the restrooms. They have a 3 digit “secret” code. Our site, according to the older lady running the “mini-mart”, was the only one available for the night. She either lied, or about 15 reservations didn’t show. We had a site with small children next to the busiest road in the park. The sewer line was too small for our RV, and it caused a nasty mess. Lots of dog excrement all over the grassy areas. You need to register with a local company to use Wi-Fi. After staying at a beautiful RV park in the Redwoods the previous three nights, Mad River was a big disappointment. Not sure why the other reviews are so good? We camped at Mad River Rapids RV Park in a Motorhome.

Candlestick RV Park, San Francisco, California

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

It is a parking lot with hookups. Wi-Fi worked well during non-peak hours. It's not a bad way to see San Fransisco. The park is located in a tough neighborhood, but they have very tight security. The restrooms/showers are very clean. Prices at their store are high. Stock up on supplies before arriving. Take their bus to China Town, or rent a cab. It's the only RV park in S.F. I'd stay there again to see more of San Francisco. We camped at Candlestick RV Park in a Motorhome.

Overall nice park for the family. All hookups worked well. Staff was friendly. Wi-Fi was so-so. You can bike into town. The beach is across the street over a couple of sand dunes. We camped at Morro Dunes RV Park in a Motorhome.
