You can't come here without experiencing the incredible view/location. A mile of lake shore viewing the Mackinac Bridge, Islands, boats, heaven! Well maintained (always something new or remodeled here). They water the roads constantly when it is dry to keep dust down, and it works. This year the park store and many of the bathrooms have been remodeled (again). It is family owned and operated which is a big plus for us. Summer isn't summer for us without a trip or three to this place. They have sites for all types of campers, economical/inexpensive sites are smaller, there are Large RV sites (these sites are quite large) for the big rigs that are more. WiFi is available through most of the park for $2.00 a day. Heated pool, great park store with fresh made pizzas and ice cream, lots of things for kids to do free, beach. Free mini golf, heated pool, several playgrounds, arcade. Free antique firetruck/hayrides in the evening. Free shuttle to Mackinac Island ferry. If you come on a busy holiday, don't think you are an expert on this place, holidays are busy in any park, this one handles large crowds quite nicely, with speedy checkin's and detailed maps and directions when you arrive. Don't come on a holiday weekend if you don't like camp fire smoke, kids and lots to look at. We like the people watching and meeting all our friends on the busy holiday (reserve early for best sites) weekends, most any other time the atmosphere is very relaxed and there are tons of choice sites to pick from. Bring your bike: lots of roads and trails to explore, plus a trail to Mackinaw City is adjacent to the park.

This is one of a few nice long stretches of few natural beaches left on the coast of California, where you can camp right on the ocean. Camping and RV aside, San Onofre is all about surfing. Not much good for casual swimming as there are rip tides and can be strong currents, but for surfers it is heaven. Long boards rule here and if you aren't a surfer but can appreciate the beautiful natural beauty here: you are in luck. Stroll the beach and you are likely to meet surfing legends who flock here for the great long rides.
