Gulf Waters RV Resort, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Definitely one of the higher end resorts that we've stayed at. Almost all of the rigs were fairly high end with very few units under 30'. The place was very very clean, well maintained. It was quiet at night. Spaces appear to be privately owned ($75k-125k) and I believe are rented when not occupied, so some of them have great outdoor setups.

This park is separated from the beach by dunes, like most of the property on Port A. They have a bridge that you can access and is wide enough for a golf cart.

A few notes:
1) You're going to be out of luck if you arrive after dusk. They will not allow you to park and may not have room in overflow parking. I don't think they make exceptions.
2) If you have anything other than a newer solid-side RV, motorhome, or 5th wheel, you might want to confirm before you pull in.
3) You can rent golf carts, but they only allow rentals from a single vendor. Rates are >$100/day.

Beach was excellent. We missed the Red Tide. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Barefoot Bay Marina & Resort, Pittsburg, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is a "east" Texas RV Patk and apparently won some awards for best in the area.

It is right on the water and across the street from a restraint/bar/gas station. Park itself seemed looked after. Service not great. 20 min on hold, then forgot about us(we could hear them talking). Phone off hook for 2 hrs. Greeted with "go find yer spot" after pulling in. Not rude, but no service.

Good number of full time rvs at the waterfront. It's a full party spot on a summer Friday. Lots of smoking.

10 year limit on rvs... Maybe....

If you want quiet and no-party, this isn't it. It is beer, bait, and ammo... Which is fine.

Lakefront yes. Boat access yes. Karoke yes. We camped at Barefoot Bay Marina & Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Jellystone Park on Barton Lake, Fremont, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $61.00
Overall Rating:

Great park for kids. Indoor and outdoor pools, splash pad, big water slides (extra $). Well kept. Family owned. I've stayed twice. A favorite park of ours. On the first stay, water was unavailable when we came in. Fixed in a few hours. This time our packet indicates to not use electric water heaters or electric fridge due to brownout possibility. Not informed when booking and still charged the same price. No bringing your own mobility. We were asked to park an electric scooter and rent a golf cart instead. Packet does mention this - no outside carts, street legal vehicles allowed for "joy riding" which I assume means intra-park transport. Rent them at $40/day. We camped at Jellystone Park on Barton Lake in a Motorhome.

Greenleaf State Park, Braggs, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Good value. $20 for water 30 amps and a pool. Grounds well maintained. Lots of spots on a Saturday. Pool open noon to 7 PM with lifeguards. Open for private parties after 7:30. Kids fishing pond a bit yucky and pool could use updating, but is functional. Snack area with reasonable prices. We camped at Greenleaf State Park in a Motorhome.

Fredericksburg, Texas KOA, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean, well patrolled. Quiet. No live music while we were there (too cold, in the 50s?). The pool was closed. Host / owner was very nice. Located just off the highway so expect some road noise. Kids 4+ cost more. Pet friendly. Cabins available, laundry available. We camped at Fredericksburg, Texas KOA in a Motorhome.

Terra Starr RV Park, Checotah, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: July, 2012 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: Flat, has 30 and 50 amp service, a few pull thrus. Seems to have discount rates for those that are affiliated - the after hours registration allows for passport America rates. Negatives: If you choose the "free" wi-fi option via a proxy, wi-fi won't work. I didn't find out if paying for it worked as the proxy would time out with free. This park has old facilities. They're adequate and reasonably kept up, but the pool has lots of cracks, missing tile, etc. The game room is large, but fairly basic in a wooden structure that needs some attention. Some of the metal structures had enough rust to be unstable (shade at the pool). There seems to be quite a few full-timers, probably a good local place to live. We used 50amp service; water and sewer hook ups were no problem. No waterfront 7/2012. I understand that the lake is way down. Used the washer/dryers, which were functional in a well air conditioned building. Didn't use the shower. The pool shower worked but was leaking. Park was clean, quiet. We camped at Terra Starr RV Park in a Motorhome.
