Jellystone Park at Whispering Pines (formerly Whispering Pines RV Reso, Tyler, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This is the second year we have taken grandchildren for 4 nights. There is lots for them to do: miniature golf, fishing, tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, swimming, hay rides, laser tag etc. During the summer if you go during the week it is quieter and there is a free daily activity for the children: tie dye on Monday, gem mining on Tuesday, ceramic painting on Wednesday, and Laser Tag on Thursday. This year they have added a wonderful splash park to the family pool area. The $55 per night is just for the site. On top of that is a $5 per person/night charge and that includes adults and children. So our actual nightly cost was $80. A little pricey, but the grandchildren look forward to this outing with the grandparents. We camped at Jellystone Park at Whispering Pines (formerly Whispering Pines RV Reso in a Motorhome.

Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA, Lebanon, Ohio

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here 6 nights. This was the closest place available while we were in area helping our daughter. Our site was electric/water only. The campground was full over the weekend, but very quiet during the week. Staff was very pleasant and allowed us to go night to night after our initial stay was complete. The sites were pretty close together. The real challenge was the route to check-in. It was up a hill to the office and back down again. We were escorted to our site. As others have said the best approach to the park is to drive up Neil Armstrong Way and come to the park on Franklin Road, so you make a left hand turn into the park rather than a sharp right hand turn. We camped at Lebanon / Cincinnati NE KOA in a Motorhome.

Topsail Hill State Preserve, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Another wonderful stay at this gem of a state park. Sites become available 11 months before your stay and go very quickly. We were in loop 103 which features sites that are very private. A quick walk to the shuttle stop to get to the boardwalk to the beautiful white sand beach. When we were there the shuttles were starting at 9:00 and ending at 7:30. The shuttle driver checked to make sure that everyone that wanted a ride back to the campground after watching the sunset was given a ride. This was appreciated. We camped at Topsail Hill State Preserve in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Goatfeathers is a great space for lunch. Under $10 for a Goatfeathers salad and 1/2 shrimp po'boy. The Blue Angels practice Tuesday and Wednesday at Pensacola NAS March to November. Allow at least 2.5 hours to get there, thru security and walk out to the viewing area. Set your GPS to the West Gate.

Texas T Campground, Cornersville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here while traveling I-65 north. Campground entrance is just off the highway to the right. Sites were long. We had no difficult leaving the park in the morning - an easy left turn and immediate right back on the road. Laundry has just one washer and one dryer. $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry payable at the office or, I suppose, on the honor system after office is closed. Wifi was good. They have limited cable TV so we decided to use our satellite. Staff was very friendly, both on the phone and in person. We camped at Texas T Campground in a Motorhome.

Stagecoach Station Campground, Benton, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is just a few years old. It is owned by a family and the host is the owner's father. We both enjoyed visiting with him. We were escorted to our site. Access is down a dirt road. The firepit is one that was built of stone. The downside is that there are no sewers but there is a dump onsite and a honey wagon visits each week. Close to the road so there was some highway noise. Perfect spot for an overnight stay. We camped at Stagecoach Station Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed just one night. Roads are tight and sites are very close. Although close to the road there wasn't much road noise. The WiFi was adequate. Disappointed in the cable TV. It was over the air channels from the nearby markets. Staff was friendly. We camped at Mount Pleasant KOA in a Motorhome.

River Town Campground, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access about 5 miles south of I-20. Ignore the directions from GPS. Continue south on Hwy 61, park is on east side, make a U-turn across the median just past the park. We were put in campground hosts site for just one night. Staff was very friendly. Mostly full time residents with a few spots for over nights. Clean. Although close to the highway it was quiet. We camped at River Town Campground in a Motorhome.

Hitchin Post Corral and Campground, Cottondale, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely park. Owners met us as we drove in. Escorted us to our site. Put a mat down to help keep the sand out of the rig. Gave us some firewood and my husband and 2 grandsons had a great time with that. There are playgrounds and things for the little campers to do. We were in a pull-thru site, #8, that was set among the trees with the exit road running by our side. This site was further from the interstate and was very quiet and the next morning made for an easy exit. There are no bathrooms, but this campground has everything else you need for an enjoyable stay. The owners had just put down fresh asphalt to improve the interior roads. We camped at Hitchin Post Corral and Campground in a Motorhome.

Antique Village RV Park, Simsboro, Louisiana

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Good place for an over-night stop. Called for a reservation and all the woman wanted to know was when we would arrive and the kind of RV we had. When we arrived she escorted us to a pull-thru site with our front windshield looking at the pond that had been marked with a cone. Some of the sites have wooden patios. We did not use any of the facilities. Our site was clean and tidy but there are some full-time residents whose sites could use some attention. Our site had good AT&T service and clear sight for Dish. There was a road noise and an occasional train. The roads were dirt and gravel and some grade to and from the loops. We would stay there again. We camped at Antique Village RV Park in a Motorhome.

Birmingham South Campground, Pelham, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here two nights while visiting the area. Only reserve for the number of nights you wish to stay there are no refunds for early departures. This park is off the highway but there are train tracks nearby. While staying at this park there was an outbreak of severe thunderstorms/tornado. The office staff told us where to go if we felt unsafe in the RV. The cable TV was very good and local channels kept us informed. Our site was level and had a concrete patio and picnic table. We did not use any of the facilities. We camped at Birmingham South Campground in a Motorhome.

A Stone's Throw RV Park, Lamont, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Used this park as an overnight stop. Close to the highway but it was quiet. Had reserved online, $3.50, to insure a spot. They also will take a check if you come after the office has closed. Had reserved #18 but could not get the motorhome level. The sign said we could park in any spot not marked with a cone so we moved to #17 which was fine. Our site had good access for the satellite. Spoke with the pleasant manager the next morning and looked around the club house which had a pool table. A no-frills park but just right for overnight stays. We camped at A Stone's Throw RV Park in a Motorhome.

South Main RV Park, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at this park when family member was having medical tests. Staff was helpful and friendly. We were escorted to our site. Came by a little later and made sure everything was OK. Our site did not have a concrete patio as did the others. Lots of trees. There are entry and exits gates along with a walking gate. Highway noise from I-610 and Alt 90 is constant. There is no left turn out of the park. We had to turn right and go about 1/2 mile to make a U-turn under Alt 90. We camped at South Main RV Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful campground a little bit off the interstate. We called and made a reservation on the day we were to arrive. Since we arrived after the office was closed we were left a packet by the office. Our site was level. Our site had a firepit, picnic table and concrete patio. We did not use any of the facilities. Roads were easy to navigate. The WiFi was good as was the cable TV with over 70 channels. We camped at Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Woodland Park Inc., Ebensburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We parked the RV here two nights while visiting family nearby. We did not stay in the rig or use any of the facilities. The owner is pleasant. The park is in rough shape and 99% of the residents are long term. There are 6 pull-thru sites. We did feel that the campground was safe and felt comfortable leaving the RV unattended. Because there is not much in/out traffic small overhead branches caught the top of the RV as we were going to and from our site. We were not able to get completely level. We camped at Woodland Park Inc. in a Motorhome.
