San Luis State Park, Mosca, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This is a hard park to evaluate. It's no longer a state park...more like a state recreation area. There was no check in and no rangers or camp hosts. You drive on a mile long stony road until you get to the campground, where suddenly the road is paved. There are pull thrus, pull ins and back in sites available. There is electric provided, but no water. You can see The Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park from the campground. There is a shelter at each site that either is there for the sun or the wind. It was hugely windy when we were there. A very large lake or reservoir is nearby. There were people scattered throughout the park, but nobody was very close to anybody else. I mean, this is a free overnight stay, it seemed, so I didn't know what to expect. It was very peaceful and quiet. We only saw 1 other person actually outside walking around. A lot of sagebrush but no trees anywhere. All in all it was a very nice stay for us and I would go back and stay 2 nights next time. It's about 8 miles from Hwy 17, and if you're going to Great Sand Dunes from that direction it is right on the way. We camped at San Luis State Park in a Motorhome.

Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park), Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights here and were quite satisfied with the park. We had a level pull thru with a decent amount of shade. Some sites have more shade than others, but most have some. The park has some of that Santa Fe charm and feel to it. Sites are fairly close together, but sitting out at night was nice and not many bugs at all. Laundry was $1.50 for both washer and dryer and all worked well. Wi-fi was good. No dogs are allowed on the grass, so their grassy areas look really nice. There is a huge leash free park down at the end of the road that we walked to once. A hose for the dogs is there if they get too hot. $1 senior fare for the bus that stops out front of the park that takes you into the middle of downtown Santa Fe. It's about a 20 minute ride, but I thought it was worth it. Would stay again and can recommend this park without reservations. We camped at Trailer Ranch RV Park (55+ Park) in a Motorhome.

Cactus RV Park, Tucumcari, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty basic desert RV park. All gravel, but not really dusty. All the sites with really nice shade were taken, but we did have one tree that provided some shade for a while. Sites are all level and hookups worked well. Wi-fi was on limited hours, but worked well during those times. I'd stay again if in the area. We camped at Cactus RV Park in a Motorhome.

Bobcat Creek RV Park, LLC, Sayre, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Basic RV park with mostly level gravel pull thrus with grass next to the pad. Little shade, and OK can get pretty hot. Wi-fi worked fairly well. The laundry was complimentary, and it looked like people were taking advantage of that nice feature. Easy check in and easy access from I40. For $15 would probably stay again in cooler weather. We camped at Bobcat Creek RV Park, LLC in a Motorhome.

Lake Eufaula State Park, Checotah, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The campsites surround a huge grassy area that has a shelter for gatherings, a playground, and plenty of room for any sport you can imagine. We paid our $20 (senior rate) and the girl told us we could pick out our own site if the one she gave us wasn't satisfactory. It wasn't, but 2 sites over was perfect. It was a level pull thru - more level than the one she gave us. We had plenty of shade. The pad was dirt/sand with a fire pit and a concrete picnic table. Walking the dogs was a breeze. The lake was a little too far for us old folks to get to, but there is a loop by the lake with about 15 sites with 50 amp. Driving a big rig could be a little tight, but we saw them in the park, so it is doable. I'd stay there again, even though it's about 8 miles from I40. We camped at Lake Eufaula State Park in a Motorhome.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

This is a typical city style park, meaning it is just a parking lot with hookups. You are quite close to your neighbor (though I could put out my awning), and you both sit out facing each other. It was too hot to sit out anyway, but I'm not a fan of that kind of arrangement. No Wi-fi or shade. Pavement makes it hot in warmer weather. There is a walking bridge (quite long) you can access to cross the river and see the Clinton Library. Dog walking area along the river actually turned out to be better than it first appeared. Little Rock skyline was surprisingly nice at night. At $12.00 I would stay again, but not in the hot weather. Must have a 50 amp adapter if you have a 30 amp rig. We camped at Downtown Riverside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Chewalla Lake Recreation Area, Holly Springs, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Drove around both loops looking for an opening with w/e. Almost gave up until a man cutting the grass stopped us and led us to the last available site. They keep 2 sites open for first come first served, so probably a good idea to make a reservation if you want w/e. This is an older feeling campground, maybe a little run down, but we were very satisfied with our site. Ours was level, but it looked like some were not so much. Lots of shade, and the short walk to the lake was very nice. We spent a very relaxed night there. It is about 8 miles total from the Interstate. We camped at Chewalla Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Yellowhammer RV Sales and Campground, Clanton, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very average RV park behind an RV dealership. Very long rocky road getting to site. Sites are stone with a small cement pad. Pull thrus are long, but neighbors quite close. Some small trees, but no real shade. Had to plug into 50 amp as 30 amp blew. Wifi was good. Didn't notice any bugs when we sat outside. Probably wouldn't stay again. Passport rate was $25, so regular rate would be $50...way too much for this stop. We camped at Yellowhammer RV Sales and Campground in a Motorhome.

Cotton Hill COE, Fort Gaines, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

This is an outstanding campground with nice large sites. We stayed both going and coming home on a recent trip, so we had 2 different sites. Both were level, well shaded with great views and a feeling of solitude. The second site had sewer included (this one was $13.00, the other one with w/e was $11.00). This campground reminds you of what camping is all about...nature. We camped at Cotton Hill COE in a Motorhome.

Copper Mountain RV Park, Tacna, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Seemed like a fairly new RV park. They have planted trees around most sites, but they are still small, so they won't provide much shade in the summer for now. It was very clean and level. Hookups worked well. Sites are basically double wide...plenty of room for parking. Wi-Fi from our site was weak, but we were kind of far from the office. Staff at check in was just the best. Would definitely stay again. Price reflects P.A. discount. We camped at Copper Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed four nights for a family get together. Weather was frigid. Park is typical of Las Vegas RV parks: a big parking lot with full hookups.

Laundry room was getting new washers soon, so only 4 were working. At a park this size that isn't very many.

Hookups worked well and we reserved a site near grass so our dogs could be more accommodated. That worked out well.

Have stayed before in the summer when it was really hot. When is it good weather here? Would stay again if in Vegas. Price reflects a stay 4 nights get one free discount. We camped at Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town in a Motorhome.

Park Place RV Park, Quartzsite, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

No reservation, but most of the hubbub in Quartzville was over when we arrived so there were a few vacancies. Friendly check in. All gravel park with wide sites and good hookups. Our dogs liked their dog park better than any we saw on the trip. No trees to speak of, so probably pretty hot in the summer. Would stay again. Price reflects P.A. discount. Lake Havasu State Park, Lake Havasu City, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Wanted to stay on the Colorado River, so we paid a little extra and stayed at Lake Havasu State Park. We were as close to the beach area as we could get. Site was spacious and level, and hookups worked well. Had a nice fire in the fire pit and watched low flying motorized hang gliders go by. Ferry in town came out near us and headed over to the California side of the river. Some sites have lots of shade. Overall a nice state park. We camped at Lake Havasu State Park in a Motorhome.

Las Colinas RV Park (55+ park), Eloy, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This was not on our itinerary, but the place we wanted was full, so we found Las Colinas. I don't like staying at places I haven't read reviews on, but this worked out very well.

Friendly check in and escort to site. Very long, level, cement site. Some shade to be had. There's some huge cacti on some sites. Hookups worked well. The park was quiet and relaxing. Would stay again. We camped at Las Colinas RV Park (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Rincon Country (East) RV Resort (55+ park), Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This wasn't our first option, but was glad to find an opening without any reservations in Tucson in February. This is a large park with lots of amenities, lots of snow birds, and lots of park models. Our site was between two park models, but good enough for an overnight stay. It was level and everything worked well. Lots of trees (palms). The park is clean and well cared for. The people were very friendly. Some good views of the mountains can be had. Probably wouldn't stay again, but that's because of the price, not the park itself.
