Destin RV Beach Resort, Miramar Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park in August for a number of years. This year, we found a much higher than normal level of irritants and they detracted significantly from our very expensive experience: * Sites are extremely difficult to get into * The foliage is not well trimmed. Every time I come to this place, I have to cut back foliage (although it is supposedly against the rules) to prevent it from rubbing my coach and providing an entry path for ants and other insects not to mention the residue deposited on the top of the coach and the slide outs. * The TV Cable did not work for most of the stay. The office reported that it had been out four times in a month and provider did not seem to be capable of getting it fixed. * The swimming pool had been contaminated and was useless for the majority of our stay * The wireless internet is a cruel joke. <1MBPS of speed. Due to low Verizon signal strength, the mobile hot spot was not much better. Do not even think of coming to this place if you need or intend to get any business done that requires internet service. It is hard to state how irritating and handicapping the lousy wireless service is in this place. * The park charges $2.50/day over the quoted rate for an 'electricity surcharge.' Surcharge? Most RVs would not use $2.50/day of electricity in total. This is nothing but a way to be disingenuous about what is being charged for a site until you arrive and find out you are paying for add-ones that were not previously disclosed. This is dishonest. I have never paid an electricity surcharge. It's not the $2.50. It's the principle behind this behavior. * Upon check-in you get an 8 panel brochure from Walton County. Six of the eight panels tell you what you cannot do in Walton County. * The office staff can be very hostile but they are clearly not responsible for the many shortcomings of what was once a very nice park I'm done with the Destin RV "Resort" We camped at Destin RV Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Four Seasons Campgrounds, Scotrun, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Non-existent signage. Not clear how to access the park's gate. Very tight, gravel interior roads. The place is clean and well landscaped but the sites are very tight to get in and out of. The laundry was clean but very expensive. The staff was cordial and helpful. The majority of the units in the park are either permanent or long stay. The place is in an unusual location. As your GPS takes you there, you wonder whether you are going to get into a place you cannot get out of. The roads in the area are steep, narrow, crooked and very rough. We camped at Four Seasons Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Old Cedar Campground, Monroeville, New Jersey

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Not the closest campground to base Philadelphia tours from but arguably the best. Located in a primarily agricultural area about 30 miles south of Philadelphia, Old Cedar was off the beaten path but remarkably well equipped for our kind of stay. Some of the reviews complained about hostile management. We found the opposite. This is a family operation. The owner and his staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating. That said, if you come with a bad attitude looking for trouble, you will find it because the facility is highly focused on delivering a very good experience to everyone and does not tolerate well anyone pushing the limits which are fine by me. The prices were very reasonable for 50 amp full hookup service. We were not close enough to the office to get their wireless signal but that was not a problem since we had a mobile hot spot. The sites are generous in size and the place is quiet at night. About 2/3 of the campers in this park are seasonal. Their sites are well maintained. This is one of the few places I have been to that I did not want to leave. In the future, Old Cedar will be my go-to place in this area. We camped at Old Cedar Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Bardstown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

A fairly old state park designed for smaller RVs so the roads are tight and some of the sites are short. However, there is NO EXCUSE for campsites not being level. The state should fix this problem. Depending on the site, the water or electric service could be as much as 75 feet away - another hardening back to the days that RVs did not use facilities. The place is very nice and an outstanding base for touring the area. It is not bad if you can find a site that can be made to work depending upon your RV type. We camped at My Old Kentucky Home State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Louisville South KOA, Shepherdsville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Friendly, accommodating staff. Very tight interior roads. After not being able to back into the W/E site that was reserved, they gave us a pull-through. The interior roads are poorly drained gravel. When it rained, much of our campsite turned into a big mud hole. The sites are VERY close, almost too close for comfort. Like many KOA's, this place seemed to be more of a kid's resort. Too many campers had dogs that barked 24/7 which detracted from the stay but was not necessarily the fault of the park although they should at least require that disrespectful campers do something about their barking dogs. The place sounded more like a coon hunt than a campground at night. We camped at Louisville South KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Probably the best place to operate from if visiting Lousiville. I do not belive there is anything decent that is any closer. Other than that, I would not see any reason to stop at this place.

Shipshewana Campground - South Park, Shipshewana, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Just south of downtown. VERY friendly and accommodating staff. The sites are OK. Interior roads are gravel. This is a good campground for a visit to the area. I would not call it a destination facility. We camped at Shipshewana Campground - South Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Derby Park RV Parking & Campground, Louisville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

This is not a campground. It at best is an unattended parking lot. The location is in a very shady part of town. You have to pull a large RV through the hood to get to this place. The place is unattended and messages left on their phone were not returned. IMHO, this place should not be listed as a campground. We left because we did not feel safe in this area of town. Maybe it is different on weekends when the flea market is operating but then all you migh have is electricity. I did not see any other facilities. We camped at Derby Park RV Parking & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Destin RV Beach Resort, Miramar Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Vegetation not trimmed. You will have to break off limbs to keep from damaging your coach. The wireless service is a joke. You are lucky to get 0.75 MBPS of download speed which is good for nothing. The wireless phone service is not much better so a wireless hotspot is marginal at best. The close proximity to the street the fire department uses to run in and out is exciting when sirens wake you at 3 AM. Otherwise the place is fairly quiet and the sites are relatively private even given their close proximity to each other. We camped at Destin RV Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Rolling Villas RV Park, Waldo, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here during a NHRA event. The park has deteriorated markedly since we were last here. A large number of sites are blocked because their electrical service is unreliable. The lights have failed and not been repaired. The park accepts any type of vehicle and many of the long term residential units would not be welcome in most parks. The park used to be gated but the gate failed. Instead of fixing the gate, a bypass was created. I guess the reason the park is failing is that unless you need a place to live, there is no reason for stopping here. We camped at Rolling Villas RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mayberry Campground, Mount Airy, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2013 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice. Rolling hills. Good gravel interior roads. Mostly back-in sites. Very friendly and helpful staff. We were near the end of a row and could not get the Wi-Fi. Generous site size. Very well maintained. Close to the highway but you do not hear road noise when the RV is closed. Very convenient to Mt. Airy (Mayberry). We camped at Mayberry Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

F. D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2012 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

One of our favorite parks. They have increased the number of volunteers and it is showing. The water/30 Amp sites are very generously sized. The place is very quiet at night. FDR is GAs largest state park and has over 40 miles of some of the most beautiful trail you will ever see. The park is just a few miles from the entrances to Callaway Gardens and FDRs little White House in Warm Springs. We have stayed here many times and it is one of our favorite parks. We camped at F. D. Roosevelt State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Destin RV Beach Resort, Miramar Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2012 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

Extremely nice park. Exquisitely landscaped and maintained. The main complaint we have is that the sites are very compressed. There is barely room for a RV and a tow vehicle or dinghy. The staff is very cordial and helpful. The place is relatively expensive but better than hotel options. We have stayed here before and would return. We camped at Destin RV Beach Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Carson Village Mobile Home Community, Birmingham, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is our sixth stay here over the past two years as I have attended an executive doctoral program at UAB. The park is primarily a trailer park that accommodates RVs. There are a lot of students and working folks who I have found to be very friendly as I have literally stayed all over the park. This park is closest to town and the traffic is a breeze compared to Oak Mountain State Park, the other alternative. I have found the staff to be very accommodating and the sites are all level and extremely large compared to typical RV sites. We will definitely return. We camped at Carson Village Mobile Home Community in a Fifth Wheel.

Clinton / Knoxville North KOA, Clinton, Tennessee

Date of Stay: October, 2012 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Family owned by the same family for over ten years. They have continued to invest in the park and it is very nice. The restrooms and showers are the cleanest you will find anywhere. This campground is the closest to the Museum of Appalachia. The water/electric sites at the back on the north side of the campground have large private sitting areas at the back of the site. They are very nice. The owners and the staff are very cordial and helpful. We camped at Clinton / Knoxville North KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Allentown KOA, New Tripoli, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2012 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This was a stop over for us. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The escort to the site time near closing was a very nice touch. The sites are generously sized and level. There are a fair number of KOA camping cabins and the place seemed to be a family destination. It is a few miles off the interstate but the advantage is that it is very quiet. The price was reasonable. Our major complaint was that the dump station is way out of level front to back and you block the entry way while dumping upon exit. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Allentown KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
