Jack Pine Lodge Campground, Manistique, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice place to stay. Utilities were well placed and adequate and the gravel pads had plenty of gravel. Very quiet at night and not much to do here, but a nice place to relax. I would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Jack Pine Lodge Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA, Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA is run by some very nice folks. Both the cable TV and internet worked well. I bought an ice cream bar in the office and they only charged .89 which would have been $3.50 in any other RV park. Sites were level and easy in and out. The men's bathroom was the nicest and cleanest of any I've experienced in an RV park or campground. I will stay here again. We camped at Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tomball Rosehill RV Park, Tomball, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The above rate is daily. I paid monthly. This park is hard to evaluate because all the good qualities are sort of erased by the fact that the traffic noise is probably the worst I have experienced. Having said that, the sites are quite nice and the internet is the best of any RV park of which I have ever visited. The location is convenient and the people running the park are very accommodating. There are a fair number of permanent folks here but they are quiet and their sites are kept clean. Even though it takes awhile to get used to the traffic noise, I would stay here again. We camped at Tomball Rosehill RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Churches, groceries and big box stores are all fairly convenient. The burger joint across the street is very good however, care should be taken when crossing the road. Julio's, a restaurant about 1/4 mile to the East, is also very good.

High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE, Ennis, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

This overnight stop was quite a surprise. It was quiet, somewhat scenic and convenient to the major travel route between Dallas and Houston. The price was ridiculously low for what I received. The dump station was closed but the power and water were good. I stayed in site #6 which was long enough for any size RV and I didn't need to unhook my truck from the 5th wheel. All-in-all a very good experience. We camped at High View Campground / Bardwell Lake COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Timber KOA, Big Timber, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

I made a reservation for one of the long pull-throughs. We arrived mid-day and the place was empty. The sites looked well spaced and nice grass between the sites. Check in was quick and efficient. We did not use any of the facilities so I cannot comment on those. The reason for such a low rating is because the site they gave us had tall grass and weeds growing up around the site utilities and the grill had two plastic Pepsi bottles in it that were filled with tobacco spit. I looked around at other sites and none of them had these problems. I have no idea why they put us in this site because at daybreak the next day there were only 4 other sites occupied. For $49 I expect a "clean" site. In my travels, I am finding that customer service is the biggest difference between a high rating and a low one. We camped at Big Timber KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Lincoln Road RV Park, Helena, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice RV park with level sites and well placed utilities. There is a grass area between the sites with a picnic table on concrete pad. Its far enough away from the Interstate to be very quiet at night. There are some permanent sites here but seem to be well cared for. The laundry room is clean and large. We would stay here again. We camped at Lincoln Road RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rock Canyon RV Park (Closed), Livingston, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

When we pulled into this campground the owner immediately got us into our space. Later his wife came to collect the rest of the money for our weekly stay. It was a very efficient check in process. The owners are very friendly and even came to our site on the day of our departure to say "goodbye". Our site was level and a bit narrow but had a nice grassy area with freshly painted picnic table. This is a small park so not a lot of amenities but very nicely maintained. The owner came to connect the cable tv which had over 70 channels. Only one washer and dryer but $1.50 to wash and $1.00 to dry. We would stay here again. We camped at Rock Canyon RV Park (Closed) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Livingston is nice little town with lots going on. The train station museum is worth a visit. Katabatic Brewery located downtown has some good brews and allow dogs. If you ride a bike to the brewery on Sunday, they have a $1.00 off the first pint special. Rubber Ducky rents rafts and kayaks and has delivery and pick-up service to the Yellowstone River.

Perrys RV Park and Tent Campground, Red Lodge, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in site #30 which was really too small for our 30' fifth wheel. The electrical outlet was in a good location and I had a choice of water spigots to use. One was about 30' through bushes on the left and the other one was about 30' to the right that had to go under the RV and hook up at the adjoing site. Our left slide pushed up against tree limbs and the awning on the other side could only be put out about 4' before hitting a tree. This site may have been o.k. if a few small trees and bushes had been either removed or trimmed. I made reservations months in advance and wasn't asked to give a deposit. My mistake was not calling a couple weeks before we arrived to confirm because I got the feeling that, upon arrival, we were not expected. Some sites down by the river are very nice. The dump area was easy to access and worked well. This campground, although a little rough around the edges is in a great location. We camped at Perrys RV Park and Tent Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

7th Ranch RV Camp, Garryowen, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice campground in the middle of, what seemed like, nowhere. The sites are long and located on a hillside but there is adequate space between the sites due to the layout. Our site needed a little bit of leveling. The utilities were well placed and adequate. The laundry room only had two washers and dryers but was not very busy. The views were terrific especially from the hilltop that can be accessed from a small trail. The check in process was friendly and quick. We even got a goodbye wave as we were leaving. Very nice people. We would stay here again. We camped at 7th Ranch RV Camp in a Fifth Wheel.

Sibley Lake (USFS), Dayton, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This was a very nice Forest Service campground. We had reservations for site 16 which had electric service and some shade. All the sites had a fire pit, grill, picnic table and lantern stand. There was a nice trail around the lake. Other than that, the only other trails were snowmobile and cross country ski trails that weren't really walking trails but would do. The pit toilets were the cleanest and nicest smelling pit toilets I have ever seen (and smelled). The gravel road around the campground can get a little dusty. One of the nice things about this place was that all four days of our visit the temperature was in the low 70s while down in Dayton and Ranchester it was in the upper 90s. The climb from Dayton is steep but there are a number of pull-outs, both uphill and downhill. We camped at Sibley Lake (USFS) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Site 21 and 22 are probably the best sites in the park if you want privacy. There is a very nice dump station about 5 miles west of the campground. They ask for a donation. Just past the dump station there is a filling station that sells very expensive diesel fuel.

Peter D's RV Park, Sheridan, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

The people here are very nice and informative. This park is away from the Interstate so it is very quiet. The utilities were adequate and the site was extra long and level, which was nice. My only issue is that the sites are really narrow. My slide out was right next to the neighbor's picnic table on one side and my awning almost touched the Motorhome on the other side. Still, it was a nice place for a one night stay. I would stay here again. We camped at Peter D's RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Devils Tower KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Even though overpriced, this KOA is very convenient to Devils Tower and you can easily hike the trails from the campground. The space between the sites was the best I have experienced at any KOA. The front desk help was quick and courteous. The utilities were well placed and worked well. I did not use the bathroom, shower room or pool. The only problem I had were the number of people who walked through my site. One kid even rode his bike around the picnic table. I don't suppose this was KOA's fault but in a way it was because there was no other easy route from the back of the facility to the swimming pool and store. I would stay here again. We camped at Devils Tower KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

During the Sturgis Rally, and just before the rally, you will want to check in early because bikers pretty much take over the parking spaces. They are all very nice people, it's just that there are so many of them!

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Big Pine is the kind of place you have in mind when you go camping. Nice people, great sites in the trees and quiet. Some of the sites provide more space and shade than others so you may want to Google Maps before making reservations. Our site had FHU and the connections were all where they were supposed to be. Firewood was $4 per bundle and they delivered. Nice laundry facility, $2.00 to wash and $.75 to dry for 30 minutes. Convenient to Custer, Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore. A great price for a great place. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Cedar Pass Campground (NPS Campground), Interior, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very cool campground because it's located right in the Badlands. We had a nice view to the West in the morning but a great view to the East in the evening . I had to level both ways but it wasn't too bad. Most of the campers were in tents rather than RVs but it was very quiet. The dump station area had plenty of room and was easy to enter and exit. If you are heading to Rapid City when leaving this campground, Highway 44 is a nice alternative to Interstate 90.
The largest and best sites are on the outside side of the loops because the roads travel counter clockwise.

The site was just an o.k. place to stay for overnight. Our site was a bit unlevel in both directions but manageable. It's about 3 miles off the Interstate but was a pleasant drive. Take lots of bug spray because the mosquitoes were very bad here. The rate include the $5 daily Minnesota State Park charge. We camped at Myre-Big Island State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
