Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA, Dover, Tennessee

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is nestled in a nice setting of forest and surrounded by two bodies of water. Initially I tried making a reservation on line and ended calling the campground at 800-525-7077. There are sites where reservations can be made however there are also sites left open for first come, first served. I ended up with two separate reservations but was able to combine to a better site when I arrived. Our site was a back in, slight down hill, but level gravel pad with water in the background. Site had water/electric (30/50)/sewer, fire pit with grill top, and concrete picnic table. (Dogwood loop only area with these amenities.) Weekdays were nice, quiet however on weekend place fills up and park is active with boaters, etc as well as a ton of golf carts. There are nature trails, local site-Fort Donalson, and the Elk and Bison Prairie is a nice drive... yes, there are bison there! We camped at Piney Campground, Land Between the Lakes NRA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sites at Fort Donalson to visit or go up Trace to Prairie. In town of Dover a restaurant called Old Lady's Sandwich Shop is good..don't let exterior scare you off. Also in town of Paris, about 20 miles east of Dover, Old West restaurant has a good buffet. If you want to avoid Nashville, can take US 79 E toward Paris and follow 218 bypass to US 641 S to I-40 to I-840 which drops you south of Nashville - Franklin, I believe.

Benton KOA, Benton, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground with very friendly staff. Even have a small kitchen that delivers sandwiches, etc. Our site was a pull through and level. I was concerned that our site was in an area that was down hill next to a stream and we were expecting rain. That said, the site area drained well and no issues were had. We travel with a dog so we found the dog park very small and limited space to walk around campground. Did walk on road next to campground but not recommended. There is a second part of campground across the street from where we were and may be more long term folks around a pond area. We knew nor were informed of this option when we arrived. Our site was close to tree hedges that appeared adjacent to I-57 and there was much road noise. Next time I would check on other side of road. We camped at Benton KOA in a Motorhome.

Peach Queen Campground, Jemison, Alabama

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Agree with previous comments that park appears worn down. We camped here 18 years ago and things were a little brighter back then. Office area appears used for storage and such however I would say we were welcomed warmly when we arrived. There appear to be two rows for overnight folks, like ourselves, and most of the units are long term people. The reason I rated this place a bit higher than most is we have a very active dog who for past two weeks was on a leash. Out of the six places we stayed, Peach Queen had the cleanest and biggest space for our dog to run, etc. We did not experience power issues...my surge guard never shut me down and our a/c ran (non ducting system) pretty constant. Decent overnight spot..easy on/off I-65. We camped at Peach Queen Campground in a Motorhome.

Leisure Lake Membership Resort, Joliet, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

As noted, this is a membership park. We stayed here for five nights and found getting a reservation easy using email during their off season. Staff was friendly at reception and whenever encountered in park. Roads are gravel and can be dusty when dry and a bit muddy when wet. My own observation is a number of contractors, workers, etc are using the park as their home base (with families) and as our site was off main road, a lot of constant traffic flowed past. We had a small back in site going back to back with another RV and one on each side of us (they were optimizing their space). Other areas appeared to have more space between RVs then ours. Appears much to do for families with a man made beach, swimming pool, fishing lake, etc. No dog park however plenty of room to walk around and a 10' leash policy. Wi fi works well but better late evening. There is a $10 (refundable) fee for a gate pass. Plenty of restaurants, box and local shops in immediate area (off US 59). Main item for me with park is location is between two major interstates - I-55 and I-80 which has heavy truck traffic...noise level very high. This is a good location to make your way for trains, etc if coming to visit Chicago area. We would come back again but try to get a different site from a noise and space perspective. We camped at Leisure Lake Membership Resort in a Motorhome.

Archway RV Park (formerly Quality Times RV Park), Mount Vernon, Illinois

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed overnight. As we are finding since we have down sized...we have a small Class C and we get small sites...we were given a decent pull through between two full time resident RVs. Our side door opened to our neighbor's picnic table. All said, still a good overnight stop and friendly staff. Though dog run is small, the adjacent ball field (which is not in use) is adjacent and gave us plenty of room to walk our dog. My wife tells me the wi fi was good though at check in I was told no streaming, etc. Plenty of restaurants/fuel available on way to park and near Interstate 57. Did see that park filled quickly after 4 PM and could handle large RV/buses. We camped at Archway RV Park (formerly Quality Times RV Park) in a Motorhome.

Frog Hollow Campground RV Park, Grenada, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We have used this park for a one night stay on a couple of previous occasions. I call this a throw back park with decent sites, excellent service by owner/manager, and otherwise no frills. Personally, we enjoy staying at this park. It is about 60 miles from Memphis and a good place to stop when it is getting late in the day. Sites are grass and gravel and decently level which is nice for us in small class C with no automatic leveling system. No dog park, however plenty of room to walk your pet. We did notice more full time RVs there this time than in the past (however have seen similarly at other locations too) Some road noise however tapers down at night time. Would stay here again. We camped at Frog Hollow Campground RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rock Crusher Canyon RV Resort, Crystal River, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

My impression is that this is more of a seasonal resort. Speaking with neighbors who have been coming last few years noted more park models have been brought in. Also note how seasonal spaces fill fast. Office staff was good and ensured we had a copy of map and rules (3 1/2 pages) which we had to sign receipt. Read rules and pretty tough however after walking through park, noted many rules have waivers of some sort. Space was spacious and easy to get into, however backed to a main road which was quite busy night and day. There is a space for dogs which IMO is not very big and sandy however most walked dogs throughout park and onto emergency water basins when dry. WiFi worked for my wife. CATV did not work for us. My lower rating was because of road noise and the cancellation policy. Since we made reservation three weeks prior, informed cancellations require a 45 day notice and a $200 cancellation fee. If cancelled under 45 days, the entire deposit will be forfeited. (on phone told we could try to use at a later date..but paper rules say otherwise). Since we were within the 45 day window, we were also required to pay full amount up front. Also, in reading the Sun Resort web site determined there is a first timers discount (20%). I was asked on the phone if this was our first time staying and said yes. I thought that would get me discount until I saw my credit card alert. Contacted office and was told, yes discount was available, however I have to ask for it? They did nicely credit back to the reduced rate. Location is nice with easy access to see the manatees and other local events. Nice place, however likely would not stay here again. We camped at Rock Crusher Canyon RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Not listed on their restaurant but excellent - Biscuit Barn. Busy on Sunday but waiting line goes quick. Believe open early AM to 2 PM, closed Monday. Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park worthwhile to see. Even if wild manatees are gone, there were about four to six at site. Great venue for children.

Sunrise Campground, Bozeman, Montana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Since knew we were traveling on 4th of July made reservation on first day they opened. Glad we did. We had stayed here before. We stayed overnight to visit friends and the space provided us a direct shot to leave in AM. Very nice welcoming and presented with good information to make it through town on this holiday. WiFi was good. Spaces flip so side to side however that presented no issues for us though we were closer than we normally prefer. There was some noise from the highway and trains (however we joke that all rv parks have trains). Would stay again as the location is adjacent to highway and road to get into park will take you right through downtown Bozeman. We camped at Sunrise Campground in a Motorhome.

Rapid City RV Park and Campground, Rapid City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed overnight. Park has some awesome views however for us, it ended there. Staff at desk did not appear happy about being there. I was to be escorted to site (which is fairly normal) however I mentioned to guide that I did not want to unhook and was curious if I could fit in..told me he didn't know? He guided me into my tiered site and pushed me to far left though I was trying to get more centered. My RV was in close proximity to a tree on right side (for leaving) and grateful camper in front of me did not park his truck behind his RV or I may not have gotten out. Quiet hours are 9 PM to 8 AM. There is an 8x10 sheet of what you can't do at park as well as further pet instructions on receipt. Personally, if we hadn't met some good folks camping there it would be a total downer for us. Not sure why I picked this park as have stayed elsewhere on previous trips and will not stay here again. We camped at Rapid City RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.

Rocky Mountain Hi RV Park & Campground, Kalispell, Montana

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

An older park with what appears to be many return clients, especially families. Nice space for the children to run about though need to be observant when pulling in. Our site was fine, shaded by the two trees I had to back in between to fit in site. Nice room between sites. I have a smaller motorhome however observed that larger trailers/5th wheels definitely needed an active spotter to get in some of the spaces. There are many restaurant, store options in Kalispell as well as repair shops. There is a newer section of town with a large COSTCO and other big box stores. Our focus was Glacier National Park and we were about 25-30 miles from there off good highway which is nearby park. We stayed 5 five days and were able to book tours, etc easily. There are also some shops on the road to Glacier. Observed some other RV park options on way to Glacier, however with all other amenities, etc, would definitely stay here again. We camped at Rocky Mountain Hi RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

Rock Springs / Green River KOA, Rock Springs, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We had stayed at this KOA a few years back when we were full timing. Though it was not our intention to stop here this time, the winds of I-80 proved greater so we contacted them and they found us a spot. First must say I could see a marked difference of improvement in this park since our previous stays. Spaces still a little close (which didn't bother me with the high winds) however the laundry room, rest rooms, showers, etc were very clean. Staff was great. My only real dislike is the parking area is gravel/stone. Some sights have fences between them however ours did not and when that 60+ MPH wind came through it kicked up the rock and took out a back quarter panel window on my HHR (tow), started a crack in my RV windshield, and a couple other hits on the RV and car. Would I stay again...yes, however might see about a slot with a fence. Nice surrounding area. We camped at Rock Springs / Green River KOA in a Motorhome.

Wichita Falls RV Park, Wichita Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Nice older park that appears to be trying to keep it up to modern standards. Very welcoming staff. Site was a dirt/gravel pull through which was at end of row looking onto a small lake. Wifi available. The park is deceptive as there are many spaces there. They have a number of back to back sites as well as a few extremely long (friends that double tow) could fit easily. We came in off using garmin which took us on a short tour. Leaving we were guided to turn right and right (loop 11) at light to get to US 287. Would stay again. We used as first stop in long trip. Staff was excellent and made us feel welcomed. They have wifi, believe tengo net which was okay. Our site had a short cement pad on it which barely fit our small RV on it. An easy on and off of I-20. Did not use facilities. Plenty of food, etc services in local area. Would stay again. Alderwood RV Express, Mead, Washington

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $53.00
Overall Rating:

Overall, a nice park. For price I felt the sites were not very wide. My RV is small and 96"..we barely fit in between the cement lines. Our small slide hit the bushes and to hook up electric, etc I had to maneuver through the bushes. Shower was clean and felt it a bit small however my wife tells me the women's showers were wide. They have a laundry room and indoor pool. Decent location to get to Spokane as well as many eateries in a short distance. Stayed here to be close to the morning's route. Likely would try to use Fairchild's FAM Camp if we came back. We camped at Alderwood RV Express in a Motorhome.

Burnaby Cariboo RV Park and Campground, Burnaby, British Columbia

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We used this park to leave our RV and tow car while we took a cruise ship to Alaska for a week. My end price was $377.15 US for three nights camping and 7 nights storage with electric. Sites are separated by a row of shrubs and each has a table. We have a smaller motorhome however in walking around the park there were many larger RVs. Showers were nice and clean. Laundry was good (uses Canadian 1$ coins which can be gotten at desk). Wi fi was good. There are many shops within 5-7 minute drive as well as a bus that can take you to Vancouver's train system. We took a city tour which picked us up and dropped us off at the park. We felt comfortable leaving RV and tow car (which had a plastic taped window) and would use park again if going to Vancouver. We camped at Burnaby Cariboo RV Park and Campground in a Motorhome.
