Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp), Fort Hood Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It looks like a park trying to make a comeback, then we learned that is exactly the case after closing due to flooding in recent years. Maintenance was needed on many areas, saw 11 cars at maintenance but never saw one person out working in the park. The park could really use a maintenance team to come thru and do lots of little things. Overall nice place to stay, nice to not have to deal with driving motorhome onto base. Staff at desk very friendly. Gate open 24 hours. Park is clean despite being open to military and civilian. Good Mt. Bike trails and horse riding. Booms in the background tank fire, but not loud at all. Lots of full timers that have to move every 30 days, pretty slack on rules, cars and boats and trailers parked everywhere. Nice touch to have laundry, but only one. Good laundry in Belton if here longer. Close to town and base for whatever you need. We camped at Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Leander / NW Austin KOA, Leander, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

The cons: they were very rude about us having a German Shepherd, since they are not allowed being a viscous breed (but we fully disclosed what dogs we had, and that's not in their rules!) There was a full timer with one so that says it all. Some staff were very rude in addressing us, others were friendly. Lots of long termers, but sites were well kept. Wouldn't let water bowls in dog park, despite 100 plus heat PROS: dog park grass was nicely kept. Pool and spa nicely kept, overall clean park. Easy to maneuver. Construction next door a bit loud and dusty, but not their fault at all. We camped at Leander / NW Austin KOA in a Motorhome.

Kerrville-Schreiner Park, Kerrville, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Hate to say, but nice hidden gem. Price was good, nice wooded, separated, larhe, shaded pull thru sites. Tons of deer, feels like a park environment not an Rv park environment. The available washers and dryers were a nice added touch since we were there three weeks. 30 AMP only in most sites, but full HU. Electric was great, water good. Will definitely stay here next time in this area. We camped at Kerrville-Schreiner Park in a Motorhome.

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Cons: No place (besides near the ball fields) to walk dogs. Sites very close, especially back to back ones. Have a 37' with dolly, not really enough room for it. Some larger sites available on perimeter. Hook-ups were good (and being redone). Never saw any park personnel and no rules enforcement. A bit spendy for what you get, but paying for where you are I guess. PROS: not full at all, but lots blocked due to construction. Close to town and sites. Slight shade at a few sites. Dog park next door SHOULD be done soon, was being finished when we were there in June. We camped at Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in a Motorhome.

Denver West / Central City KOA, Central City, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Let me start with I fully understand supply vs. demand, but 45.00+ tax just to park in overflow lot with no amenities at all is gouging. This is the most expensive KOA we've stayed in. They are making improvements for sure, but there is almost nothing for kids ( one small playground piece). I highly recommend to not go here if just passing thru Denver area, since it is well over 15 miles of hills each way. Many 8% grades to get there, or going back. We stayed in overflow one night, site 9 one night, then a pull thru another night ( that's what happens when you don't make reservations!) Sites 1-10 are definitely the best IMO. The pull thrus are fine, and plenty big for any rig. Customer service greatly depended on who was working, with one person being outright rude to customers. We will not be staying here again next time through. Not enough draw for us. We camped at Denver West / Central City KOA in a Motorhome.

Chatfield State Park, Littleton, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

As other reviews have noted, the vehicle charge makes it cost steep, but parks aren't cheap to maintain. They say this is the busiest State park in Colorado, and I believe it, but it is still a very nice place to camp. We were in D loop and it was super easy to navigate through, sites were very spacious and comfortable and plenty of room for the biggest of rigs. While we never encountered the hosts, they certainly are doing their job keeping it clean! Would have stayed longer but reservations ran out, and they are booked up for the summer. They do sell some sites at the registration office at 1 PM....BUT DON'T count on getting one for sure. We will definitely go back here next time through. We camped at Chatfield State Park in a Motorhome.

Tons to see and do in the area. Botanical gardens are very close, only $5 per car and well worth a visit. Take your shoes off and walk on grass better than golf courses! You could stay busy and never leave the park! Firewood is $5/ bundle, good price.

Colorado Springs KOA, Fountain, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Great work campers. (Seemed like they were everywhere!). Good location. Right off freeway but not too noisy. Trains in A.M. but I like them. If military, Fort Carson is right by there and one of the nicest military installations we've been to. If going north or want quiet, go to desert hot springs (careful, clothing optional some days), a very secluded quiet place for a soak. We camped at Colorado Springs KOA in a Motorhome.

Royal Gorge / Canon City KOA, Canon City, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park has obviously been here a while and could use some freshening. To be fair, the deluxe sites have been recently updated and are very nice. The older ones are pretty close together, and share too many things (like electric box!). I pulled in next door was connected to 30 amp I was able to use 50 (could be a problem for some that NEED 50). If that is the case I recommend larger rigs use deluxe sites only. Overall not terrible. Had K9 area, but all sand. No grass at all in the area for dogs (but have to consider where you are). Would probably try another one in the area first next time. We camped at Royal Gorge / Canon City KOA in a Motorhome.

Elk Creek Campground , Gunnison, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here four nights. Stayed in loop D ( only loop currently with electric, had 50 amp). Nice level concrete pads, all loops looked well laid out. Most sites had good room in between. Easy access in and out, even for very large rigs. Most were pull thru, some back in ( check map online if it matters). If you get a back in I recommend unhooking up across street from sewer dump. Roads are one way. Would definately stay here again. We camped at Elk Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Monte Verde RV Camp, Angel Fire, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed three nights here. If you haven't already been here, it's a beautiful area. It just so happened that they were having a balloon fest when we were there (didn't know, nice surprise) and they launched from the field next door and went right over the RV. The owners were very nice and great to deal with. Since they knew we had pets they came right up one night when we returned to alert us to a power outage (local electric company transformer blew up). Just a quick note, if we leave them at home I always leave a few windows open, even if AC is on, just in case. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Monte Verde RV Camp in a Motorhome.

Storrie Lake State Park, Las Vegas, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

One great feature is they let anyone, even large RV's dry camp right on the shoreline, so you're pretty much guaranteed a spot. The dump station is closed until further notice. I recommend the S SITES. they are all pull thru and plenty of room for any rig. Be advised the wind can really blow here. Even S sites are on water side of road, odd are on other side but still have a view. Very nice hosts also. We camped at Storrie Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Heron Lake State Park, Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Great little park. Certainly out of the way for most places, but good roads all the way there. If you want peace and quiet and night stars, this is the place. Many sites can hold a pretty good sized rig, but remember they're only 30 amp, so no two AC's. We stayed in #1, very little traffic, easy back in, some ate even pull thru but might be tight for bigger rig to pull through. Great host. We camped at Heron Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

No host on duty, but park and facilities were clean. There is construction throughout the loop A with electrical, but it's to upgrade to 50 amp, so great. Most sites back in, currently no reservations due to construction so right now ( June 2017) it's first come first serve basis. That will change I'm sure when they get project done ( looks like 1/2 approx. To me). Nice, quiet,. Convenient for motorhome with tow. Had to unhook of course. Would stay again. Good rate, but no water/ sewer at sites. We camped at Santa Rosa Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Giant Redwoods RV & Camp, Myers Flat, California

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

It is obvious this park was very old BUT very well kept ( and really well laid out when new!). Pride in hosts and owners shown thru. A bit tricky maneuvering but would fit any rig. Most would say odd layout and if this were new park I would agree, as it is older I say well used land area. Great firewood and campfire available. Use of items like fishing poles, horse shoes, etc were free and easy. Laundry only had two machines, but at least there was one! Easy access to river.
