Flamingo Lake RV Resort, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We had truck problems and needed to unhook our trailer in order to get the repairs done. This is predominantly a seasonal or year round park. As with many RV parks, they try and fit as many money makers as they can so the sites are very small. Supposedly it was a pullthrough site. So as the host guided us in 1) the utilities were on the wrong side so they needed to be fed under the camper-not acceptable 2) if we had stayed that way, our neighbors sewer was right in the middle of our lawn. Needless to say we turned the other way, opposite to everyone else. Our yard area was 4 feet wide and the length of our rig. Going back to staying in state parks. Larger sites, not so concerned about squeezing just one more rig in the park. We camped at Flamingo Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Donegal Campground, Donegal, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for only one night to use the electricity for air conditioning. It is an older campground with lots of old growth trees. The clerk at the front desk was pleasant and took us to our site, something a lot of campgrounds do not do. My only complaint was that it was rather hilly to get to our site. The pad was absolutely level but the area around it was bumpy and full of roots, so I tripped a few times when outside. I would stay here and would recommend it to others. We camped at Donegal Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped at this park for a one night stay on our way to Washington DC. It has many seasonals but sites and RVs have been well kept. It reminds me of the RV parks that we have stayed at in Florida, (which is a complement). I was actually sorry that we only had the opportunity to stay one night. It would be a great place to spend a week or a season. We will return if we are ever in the area. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Golden Eagle Ranch RV Park & Campground, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for 2 weeks out of necessity. We had been here 12 years ago and really enjoyed it. Since then it has deteriorated considerably. Granted it has been a rainy season and the roads are horribly rutted, like going through the park on a roller coaster. The roads are soft, coarse sand, filled with ruts and of course, being in the foothills of the Rockies it is all up and downhill. These things combined makes it for very dangerous footing. The grass, at least since we have been here, has never been mowed and I have never seen anyone addressing the ruts in and along the side of the road. We will be leaving as soon as feasible and not returning. We camped at Golden Eagle Ranch RV Park & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Pellicer Creek Campground, St Augustine, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

This is an excellent RV park to use as a base for visiting St. Augustine. To explain my "no" about clean restrooms and showers. It is not a criticism. They do not have a shower house. So the park does not take tenters. It is a gated park but did not cause any problem going in and out. There are beautiful photo opportunities along the Pellicer Creek which is adjacent to the park. Lots of trees provide shade and beauty. Jerry-the owner, could not have been nicer or more helpful and gave us a lot of recommendations of places to visit in St Augustine. Would definitely recommend this park and will be returning. Agree that the roads are a little tight for bigger rigs like ours but if you are careful and take it slow, you will not have a problem. We camped at Pellicer Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ocean Waves Campground, Waves, North Carolina

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this park. The dunes to the beach were about 75 feet from our RV. It is a well kept park and despite what other reviews say, we found the staff friendly and helpful. We will definitely return. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

A Big Wheel RV Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Actually, this is a decent RV park, but after reading the rules of the park, I was surprised to see the owners' dog running free on the property, several cats and at least 15 chickens running around. The chickens were the most annoying as the rooster was crowing right outside of our window at 6:30 in the morning. One of the joys of being retired and traveling is not having to get up before 0800 in the morning, so it was particularly annoying and we were glad to leave and no, we will not be returning there. We camped at A Big Wheel RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Bare bones minimum state park, but it did have sewer hookups, which made it better than average for a state park. The staff in the office were typical government workers. They did their job but were not especially friendly or helpful. But for the Washington DC area, the price was very reasonable. This was our second time at this park. The last time we were chased out by the possibility of Hurricane Sandy hitting the DC area. Closest rail station is the end of the line at Vienna Station, about 17 miles away. Parking there is $5/day and if over 65, be sure to get a senior pass to get 1/2 price transit fares. We camped at Bull Run Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Bluffton/Fort Wayne South KOA, Bluffton, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is an excellent, family friendly park. Lots of options as to sites with trees and shade or no trees, out in the open. Staff is very friendly and will go beyond to make it an enjoyable stay. Bathrooms and showers are immaculate as they are checked multiple times during the day. There is a pool, playground, and a dog park that is planned for completion later this summer. Will definitely return if we are in the area. We camped at Bluffton/Fort Wayne South KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Black Hills Whispering Pines, Silver City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

I cannot say enough about this park. The only reason it is not a 10 is that there is no pool and the internet access was very slow. It is basically a large, flat prairie, so you have level grass sites. Huge pull through sites. It is 30 amp service but never had to worry about using our air conditioner. You are up at the top of a hill so there is always a cool breeze. The owners were really, really helpful. Our truck needed some extensive repairs, so we ended up having to extend and extend our stay. They were willing to work with us and even offered to drive us in town to pick up our rental care. Even though we did not need the shuttle, we appreciated the offer. If we come back this way again, we will definitely return here. We camped at Black Hills Whispering Pines in a Fifth Wheel.

Badlands Interior Motel & Campground, Interior, South Dakota

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Very basic RV park, but suited our needs. Level gravel sites, full hookups. Owners very friendly and helpful. Dog friendly and the park has the Badlands in its sights, so it provided some beautiful sunrise and sunset photos. If you are not looking for lots of amenities, then this park will suit you well. The Internet access was spotty, but we have a "hotspot" so it did not matter to us. We camped at Badlands Interior Motel & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Buttonwood Inlet RV Resort, Cortez, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2013 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Great park. There are blacktop sites for your RV with a brick patio. The sites are quite large which make backing in with a fifth wheel very easy. Wi-fi through the park is faster than our own hotspot--something that you rarely find. We had a 24 hour Florida storm and having blacktop and brick as your site made it wonderful to keep mud off our steps and kitchen floor. There were puddles in the park, but the drainage was excellent, so the standing water did not last long. When I stated that the price was higher than I wanted to spend, they asked if we had Passport America or Good Sams, both of which we had. So we got a great site for 1/2 price. Will definitely return here. We camped at Buttonwood Inlet RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
