Big Lagoon State Park, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground with access to the beaches, boat ramp, lagoons, and hiking trails. We love many aspects of this campground. The real negative is how noisy it can be. With weekend partying groups of dozens of drinkers, and/or incessant barking of dogs, it can be difficult to feel relaxed. Since two of the three campground hosts had the barking dogs, complaining to them had no effect. Calls to the campground number didn't get returned until the next day. We camped at Big Lagoon State Park in a Motorhome.

Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

While many of the sites at RV parks in this part of the country are simply dirt or sand, this park is beautiful. The sites are concrete pads, all asphalt roads with flowers and other details that show pride of ownership. The most unusual feature is the observatory. A limited number of campers are allowed to experience the evening show, weather permitting. We have stayed there twice and got to see spectacular views of Saturn and some galaxies, or other heavenly objects both times. It is one of our favorite RV parks in the country. We camped at Butterfield RV Resort & Observatory in a Motorhome.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park, Robert, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Off-season stay with lots of workers getting the park ready for the season. Only long term folks and a couple of other RVs in a huge park. It was quiet, and adequate for our 2 night stay. Laundry was small but suited our needs. We would stay here again as a place to rest when traveling during the off-season. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in a Motorhome.

Mission RV Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed one night while traveling eastbound. It is just off I-10, so convenient, but a little tricky navigating the exit necessary to reach the park. Lots of highway noise at all times. It is a very crowded park with many permanent residents. The pull-though sites are just dirt with hookups. No table, no fire ring, and just barely any room in any direction. We will not stay here again. We camped at Mission RV Park in a Motorhome.

Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve, Santee, California

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is a fenced-off area of wilderness about 30 minutes east of San Diego. While the main roads are paved, the sites are dirt and sand that are not repaired after erosion from any rain. Mud is a better description of the site surface. The dumpsters are not necessarily raised, and being able to use them requires wearing boots when there is rain. If you don't mind the sound of coyotes howling with delight after killing one of the rabbits that share their space, you won't need to leave a fan on to drown out this noise at all hours of the night. The grandkids really enjoyed the various playgrounds in different areas of the park. The pool was unheated, so we didn't get to use it. We camped at Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve in a Motorhome.
