Midway Park COE, Waco, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

This place was a great find! Nice long (ours was 80') paved & level pull-thru site with a covered picnic table. 50 amp, water & sewer hook-ups. We got good WiFi coverage. Didn't get very good TV reception, but wasn't here for that. Location was good, right off the I-35/ Hwy 6 and 15 min. from Waco. You got freeway noise in the morning, but that was really it, I thought. For the money, wow, you can't beat this place! Right next to the water too, and a nice picnic area under trees. Really clean and well maintained. We camped at Midway Park COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We arrived mid-day and stayed one additional day. I wouldn't stay any shorter than that as there is plenty to see and do in Waco! Magnolia Farms, if you add a meal, takes most of the day by itself, then add the Texas Ranger Museum, and if you have children, there are other things, plus shopping, eating, etc. A great find was a local made ice cream place called The Heritage, check it out! Yum!

The Narrows RV Park, Princeton, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Super nice people! We had a tire blow en route and had to call them several times to tell them we would be late, then to get directions (in the dark). Once there, they walked me in the dark with a flashlight to show us a spot. Nice cafe & store, they even have a gas station! They are located well off the beaten path by the Wild Life Refuge (why I picked this place) but, unfortunately, it seems I picked the wrong time of the year to visit...cold and windy and the birds have all gone and the winter ones haven't arrived yet! The sites are nicely appointed with a cement patio, table a fireplace and a BBQ stand. All level gravel pull-thrus, plenty long enough to not have to unhook if you don't need to. Cable was ok and their WiFi was ok, but only had 1 bar on my phone...like I said, we are way out in the middle of nowhere here! We camped at The Narrows RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The Malhur Wildlife Refuge is right next door, and if you come in the spring or summer it's really worth the drive through it! You can pick up their CD auto tour at most stops and have it to learn as you drive, just be prepared for the "washboard" gravel road!

Tonopah Station RV Park, Tonopah, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This is just a parking lot behind the motel/casino right off of the highway...but, it was level, with a long enough site that we didn't have to unhook and had full hook-ups. All for only $23! We ate inside at the cafe and it was good food too! Very quiet and secure place. Great for an over-night stay. We camped at Tonopah Station RV Park in a Motorhome.

Clark Park, Battle Mountain, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice clean, well maintained park. It's all "self-service" - no one to "greet you" but you don't need it! When I called, the owner explained all about it, so it wasn't a surprise. Each site it very level with full hook-ups & cable and a table. Easy in & out. Peeked at the other parks when we were driving around town (ugh!) Not much in town (no grocery store) but a couple of restaurants & museum, but a good "rest stop". We camped at Clark Park in a Motorhome.

Cross Creek Camping Resort, Delaware, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

The rate is actually $59 during the week & $63 during the weekend, so I split the difference. We got a "big rig" site and it was beautiful, large, level, with a nice patio, lovely landscaping, nice shade tree, table and fire ring, right on the corner next to the office. Couldn't ask for a better site. No cable here, but good secure WiFi and ok over-air tv service. Nice and quiet and they had a number of ad/kid activities. All that said, very expensive. Had I known there was a state park right across the street, I would have gone there, I'm sure the price was probably half and we don't use all the "extras". We camped at Cross Creek Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

FMCA Campground (FMCA members only), Cincinnati, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

What a nice little campground for FMCA members! It's $0 for the first 2 nights, then $20 for the next 5 nights. Very good for a few days stopover. Concrete, level pads set in cul-de-sac with FHU's. Spacing is good with lush green grass. This is an FMCA members only site, there are 15 sites with another 8 overflow sites with electric only. The closest place to that you can camp Cincinnati too. It's about a 20-40 min. drive to attractions depending on where you are going, so nice and quiet. Sure can't beat the price (free for the first two days, then $20 for any day there after up to a week. You really only need about 3 days or so to see Cincinnati anyway, so it's perfect. Great stopover place. We camped at FMCA Campground (FMCA members only) in a Motorhome.

Crystal Rock Campground, Sandusky, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Notes: We had a back-in site that needed quite a bit of leveling and the site itself really only fit our rig. Most of the time we used the site next to us to park our car, when the weekend came, and more campers came, we just parked on the grass next to us (?). No amenities to speak of (no pool, WiFi, cable, etc) so thought the rate was a bit high, but I guess for the area, they thought not. Because of that, it was quiet, as not many kids. We camped at Crystal Rock Campground in a Motorhome.

Merry-Go-Round Museum is lots of fun, if you are into lighthouses, take the time to drive around the lake, there are more than are "listed" on any of the maps, and the drive is fun! The Maritime Museum is quite nice too.

Maywood Community (55+ primarily long term), Chesterland, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great little spot, and as close to Cleveland as you can get, actually. No "frills", just the basics (W/50amp/S) but that's all we needed (& all back-ins). But level, shaded and quiet. The owner couldn't have been nicer too. We had 5 days there, and could have used more to see all their was to see and do in Cleveland! It takes about 20++ min to get into town without traffic. Sure can't beat the price. We sure were lucky! We camped at Maywood Community (55+ primarily long term) in a Motorhome.

Natchez Trace Thousand Trails NACO, Hohenwald, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

What a wonderful surprise this was! We were surprised it was here and that we could even get in over the Memorial Day Weekend (and with short notice too). We got a great "beach site" with full hook-ups. The price averages out the weekday & weekend (28/32). They had all kinds of activities for the holiday and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We aren't members, so it's open to the public. Huge park and right off the Trace. No TV reception where we were (hard to say about other areas tho) and WiFi & cell service was sporadic, but this place is worth the inconveniences. We camped at Natchez Trace Thousand Trails NACO in a Motorhome.

Hidden Valley RV Park, Del Rio, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This was a not as good as it "appeared" to be. ;-( First, the road into the campground (Bolner) is horrible for an RV - trees and electrical wires that hang down really low that catch on or scratch your coach that you are swerving like mad trying to avoid and hoping like crazy that you don't snag one on your air conditioner! It's also a crazy little neighborhood to navigate in and out of. Then, the park is "cute", but small and not level, so a pain to unhook and back into, especially for just an over-nighter. PA doesn't tell you that it's a "two-night minimum" to get the discount, so paid the full price - which we might as well have gone to another campground then... Wouldn't return here, their picture, looks nicer than it is. We camped at Hidden Valley RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups , Big Bend National Park, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is nothing more than one long parking lot with 12 spaces on each side, all back-in with grass & trees behind them. You are given just enough room for your RV & tow. A picnic table is on the grass behind you. 13-25 get the afternoon sun, and wow, was it hot! We had our air on all day and night and it couldn't keep up. The awning only helped a tiny, but since the sun faced us, it wasn't much help - if you come here, try and get a site 1-12, as you will face away and your awning will give you some shade at least! 3 days was plenty for us to see and do all we needed, and with the heat, that was enough. Glad we came tho. The store is stocked well enough. Believe them when they say "no cell service" - only at Ranger Stations! ;-) Also, give yourself at least 30-45 min to get anywhere, as every place is far from each other. BIG place, but nice. We camped at Rio Grande Village RV Campground--Full Hookups in a Motorhome.

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is the best campground by far that we have found anywhere around Las Cruces! We usually just "pass thru" this town and stay one night at a different CG, but this time we had wanted to visit the small town of Old Mesilla so stayed close to it and booked several nights. Was so lucky to have found this campground. It doesn't have a pool, etc, but we don't use that stuff anyway. The sites front to back, very level, good TV & WiFi, fantastic staff, super clean place. Couldn't ask for a nicer park for a few days! Little pricey for the area, but all and all, great. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Motorhome.
