Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: Near amusement park. Strong 50 Amp service. Verizon LTE data had two bars. CONS: High price, paid $54/night, outrageous. Spent over $200 at the park. Why so expensive for so few services. No water hookup. No wifi. No sewer. No OTA TV signal. Relatively small campsite. A little trash at the campsite. We camped at Knoebels Amusement Resort in a Motorhome.

Burns Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

STINKS They should call it Stinker RV Park. Our site, site 20, was next to the park sewage processing tank, which emitted sewer gas. To quote the movie Christmas Vacation: "I pity anyone who lights a match within 100 yards..." At times, we smelled an intense sewage smell. They should relocate the sewage tank at least 100 yards away from any campsites. At least 10 sites were subject to the gas. We camped at Burns Park in a Motorhome.

SHOTS FIRED At 3AM on a cold windy rainy night, the cops knocked on my bedroom window and said there was a complaint of shots fired from my site. I said there were none and they went away. McHood Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $1.00
Overall Rating:

Great value! Pros - Free. Three bars of AT&T. Beautiful scenery. World-class little canyons to hike and canoe/kayak through. Six miles from Winslow, where there are great tourist attractions, potable water fill and dump station at Maverick Station. Relatively safe. No alcohol allowed. Pull-through. Cons - Some people abuse the privilege by having barking dogs, using multiple sites, burying dead dogs near the campsites, overstaying the 14 day limit. A little trash, but not too bad. Some broken glass and goatshead burrs. Sometimes local teens come to hang out and cruise in the day-use area. We camped at McHood Park in a Motorhome.

Franklin Mountain State Park, El Paso, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $8.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: Inexpensive. Beautiful desert scenery. RV Site #4 had just enough room for our 34ft motorhome. Flexible selection of one of the only five RV sites available. 10 minute drive to El Paso. CONS: All RV sites except #4 were way off level. Steep small roads for big rigs. Not recommended for motorhomes over 34ft. Poor reservation / phone system communication. Had to call foir times until I got a person. Could not honor Texas State Park Pass for 50% off second night. Gate code causes confusion and delay. No english OTA TV reception. Two bars of AT&T reception. No water, no dump. Boondock only. We camped at Franklin Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Bureaucratic Incompetence PROS: Hiking, close to McDonald Observatory, thorough ranger talks, good water. Beautiful scenery. CONS: Paid $20 too much due to state park reservation system bureaucratic incompetence*1. Too smokey due to a "Prescribed Burn" program in the park. No cell coverage*2. Picnic table on wrong side of rig. Unreliable electric pedestal: had to wiggle the connection to get it to work. Then the electric went up and down during the night, repeatedly tripping the transfer switch in the rig. I called maintenance and all they did was reset the breaker. It should have been replaced since it could damage the rig. Restaurants in the town of Fort Davis are expensive: $13 for a burger and milk shake meal and $18 for a gourmet burger meal. Boring downtown historic district walk: only three expensive specialty shops and some hotels were open: not unique, not interesting to us. Cops are crawling the town looking for the slightest infraction. There are flashing speed signs: I was one MPH over the limit, the sign flashed and and a cop got on my tail. He did not stop me though. Dump station and picnic table on wrong side. Not customer focused. *1 We had to make two reservations to stay two nights due to the prescribed burn program. Upon arrival, when we tried to settle this clerical mistake, they charged a $10 reservation change fee since the reservations were already made online. The ranger had no remorse that their incompetence that led to the overpayment and we were not happy. Their business motto is "Satisfaction not guaranteed". Texas State Parks charge a daily use fee PER HEAD: very expensive. For a family of five, this could cost up to $280 per week. *2 AT&T and Verizon coverage maps showed coverage in the campground. However the reality was ZERO coverage since the campground is in a "bowl" of mountains. Stay at an RV park in town and you'll have cellular coverage. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Motorhome.

Chester Frost Park, Hixson, Tennessee

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: Beautiful lake. CONS: Excessive slope. High-crime? - Not friendly. Huge park. Not one park employee or camper said "hello". Glass window and cop car at entrance made it seem like a high-crime area. - Website said site 183 could accommodate a 57 foot motorhome. The site could barely handle a pop-up trailer. Our motorhome is 34 feet. Utilities too far away; had to extend our electric cable. - Excessive slope. We could have broken our necks getting out of the rig. - Website should be updated to show which sites are sloped before laying out 100+ dollars. We camped at Chester Frost Park in a Motorhome.

Irwin Park , Edinburgh, Indiana

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: $15/night, electric and water sites, dump station, river, playground, short walk to town. Cops patrol the site three times per night. The only highlight of the town was Not Just Popcorn, a global seller of 400+ flavored popcorns. CONS: High crime rate. Deliberately parked us next to a derelict RV, who had visitors wielding a sword and axes, cigarette smoke smell from the derelict RV, AC running 24x7. Smelled like garbage. I initially parked one space over from the derelict RV, to put some much needed space between us and the smell, the constantly running AC and the eyesore, but was told to move to the next site. We reluctantly complied. Edinburgh had many neglected buildings. Neighbor said there was drug activity about 200 ft from RV campsite. Had to clean up trash around our site. Many cigarette butts around the sites. No river walk. Bike path was only .1 miles...unusable. We camped at Irwin Park in a Motorhome.

Did not really appreciate food or atmosphere of The Edinburgh Diner. It was not the "Greek Restaurant" I thought. My wife hurt her foot on a sidewalk in Edinburgh because it was neglected. It had a mixture of leaves and stones, making it hard to navigate the sidewalk.

KC Campground, Milan, Michigan

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

PROS: Good value. Electric and water pull-through 60 ft grass site for $30/night. Trees. Decent view. Good spacing. Poor wifi at our spot, but good wifi from office.

CONS: Staff not friendly to transient (non-seasonal) campers. Rejected delivery my Amazon package. This demonstrated lack of respect for campers. My package was labeled per the manager's instructions, but was rejected upon delivery. After paying for six nights, one would thing they would try to take good care of their guests needs.

HUGE rig-wrecking potholes in gravel entrance Sherman road, almost damaged the undercarriage of my rig. Ugly algae in pond. Mostly seasonal campers. Utilities on wrong side. We camped at KC Campground in a Motorhome.
