Catherine's Landing, Hot Springs, Arkansas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautifully maintained park with large sites right on the river. We had a pull through site. Roads are asphalt and those that house RV sites are crescent shaped which makes for easy entry and exit of the site. This also helps to keep your neighbors sewer hook up quite a long way from your front door. Plus, the sites are large. If you are planning an extended stay, you may want to request a site that has the afternoon sun to the driver side of the vehicle. Otherwise, you will have the afternoon sun on the front door. All sites are concrete with a concrete patio and pull through sites are big enough to remain hooked up if you are there for an overnight stay. There is a launch area for your boat and the park also has boats to rent. Laundry facilities are very good and washers and dryers are $1. Bathrooms and showers are tile and immaculately maintained with lots of hot water. This is a great place for families. We will definitely stay here again. Be sure to follow the campground's directions to the park. Your GPS may not take you to the campground. We camped at Catherine's Landing in a Fifth Wheel.

Johnny's Lakeside RV Resort , Foley, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The rate is based on the monthly rate divided by the 18 days we stayed. Park office personnel were very courteous and escorted us to our site. All pads are concrete and narrow (approx. 10 ft wide). Sites are narrow, but there is about 6 feet of space on each side of the open slide outs. Roads are asphalt and are approximately 12 feet wide. Because the roads are narrow, maneuvering big rigs is difficult. Laundry is satisfactory. Washers and dryers are $2 each. Nice water park, which is great for kids. The park appears to be occupied mostly by a few permanent residents and it fills up each weekend with locals or semi locals who bring their kids to use the water park. Many guests just park their RVs there and come in on Thursdays and leave on Mondays. We left after 18 days due to the following reasons: 1) Very loud music from park guests that went on until 2:30 AM; 2) guests who drive their 4 wheelers up and down the narrow streets with music blaring at a speed of about 20 mph while consuming alcohol - we were nearly run over on 3 occasions while walking our dogs; 3) park rules limit 1-2 vehicles per site yet we saw sites that had 4 - 5 vehicles per site - our neighbor left his truck parked fully in the street over night; 4) guests routinely cut through sites on the way to and from the water park. If there is not enough room due to parked cars, they just cross beneath your awning; 5) guests were not inclined to obey park rules; 6) we saw no presence of park officials after hours. Because of the narrow streets and parked cars, we were not able to pull out of our pull-through site. There was a vacant site behind us, so the only way out was to back up on to the vacant pad to exit our site. We will look elsewhere for a place to stay in the future. We camped at Johnny's Lakeside RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Liberty Church in Foley is a great place to worship. Be sure to visit Five Guys Hamburgers in Foley. Longhorn Steakhouse in Gulf Shores is good, and Olive Garden in Spanish Fort is also good.

Perdido Key RV Resort & Marina, Pensacola, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for 5 days in early May. The park was mostly empty. We enjoyed our time here. Staff on duty was helpful and friendly. It was obvious they valued our business. Initially I thought the streets would be difficult to maneuver a 40' fifth wheel, but they posed no problems. The only issue in leaving the park was that because of our length, we came close to hitting an electrical unit which was at the end do our site. In face we gave it a slight nudge. The restrooms and laundry are excellent. We will stay here again if we are in this area. We camped at Perdido Key RV Resort & Marina in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Caution: iPhone maps may not take you to the correct address on River Road. When approaching the park from FL 292, take the first street to the left after crossing the bridge (Gongora Dr). Then turn left on Don Carlos which dead ends at River Road. Turn left on River Road and cross under the bridge to the Park. If you are a big rig, make a wide right turn to enter the park.

Be sure to see the Blue Angels practice on Tuesdays and Wednesday's. It is free. Be early if you want a bleacher seat, or bring your own lawn chairs. They begin promptly at 11:30. Also take in the Naval Aviation Museum. The beach is only a short distance. The beaches are beautiful.

Stage Stop Campground, Winter Garden, Florida

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park with primarily 30 amp sites. When you make reservations, you must request a 50 amp site. Friends had stayed in this park and forewarned us. If you are approaching this campground from the East on FL 50, iPhone Maps will tell you that you must make a u-turn. This is not accurate as there is a small crossover at the entrance to the campground and a U-turn is not required. If you approach the entrance from the west the turn is tight for a 40' fifth wheel. So, make a wide turn if you are a big rig. Also, be careful as you pass a building on the left as you enter where the camp sites are located. The road is narrow and the corner of the roof juts out. We narrowly missed it. Almost all sites are back in on soft grass. Our front levelers sunk into the ground. After mowing, there will be lots of grass clippings to track in. The person who checked us in was definitely not a people person as he did not seem to care if we stayed there or not. We stayed 3 nights. We would stay here again as an overnight visit. We camped at Stage Stop Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

West Jupiter Camping Resort, Jupiter, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rate is based on the monthly rate. First, the good. We found the campground to be clean and well maintained. Owners and staff were very accommodating. Most sites are either back-in or pull-in. In most cases, you do not have your neighbor's sewer beside your front door. Spaces are wide in that there is a lot of space between your front door and the front door of your neighbor. Most of the park has concrete pads. Now the bad. We had a back in-site on the back row. Unless you have a roof mount satellite dish, finding a spot for your dish is difficult. The water here is awful, with lots of iron and an odor. We put Iron Out in our softener and back washed it weekly. We managed not to ruin any clothing in our washer. The water is tolerable for bathing, but it leaves an odor on your skin and dishes. We use Clorox in our dish water so that took care of dish odor. Power here was very weak. During the afternoons when A/C usage went up, we had to turn off our A/C units in order to use the microwave. There was one power outage in the park lasting about 6 hours on a 95 degree afternoon. It was not the fault of the owners, but we were fortunate to be home so we could get our pets out. Like other reviewers stated, many of the concrete pads are broken and deteriorating badly. Newer sites in the campground are gravel and very short. Barely big enough for a 40' RV. Also, many of the units there belong to permanent residents with all kinds of clutter around and under their units. If you are visiting Jupiter, this is the only game in town. In the future we will most likely not stay here. We camped at West Jupiter Camping Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Oaklawn RV Park, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights in early March. It was cool and rainy. We stayed here primarily because we thought it would be easily accessible from I-10. First the good. The campground owner was very accommodating. We did not arrive until after dark due to tire issues. We spoke to the owners several times during the day/evening. They told us our site number and came to the RV the next morning to register us. The rest is bad. Although the exit off I-10 is easy, you wind up going down a dark narrow dead end road with very little indication of where the park may be. After finally locating the park, my wife had to walk along with a flashlight to find our site. We had a pull-through site that was several inches off level. We were never able to get level. All sites are gravel. Apparently our site was a designated smoking area as well, because the next morning we found hundreds of cigarette butts on our site. Also the park was muddy due to the rain. There were numerous puddles of water on our site and throughout the park. There seemed to be a lot of long term residents. There was lots of clutter around the sites. If in this area again, we would look elsewhere for a place to stay. We camped at Oaklawn RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Tree RV Park, Arcadia, Florida

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects a monthly rate. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Big Tree. This park is mostly park models that are occupied by snow birds. There is room for about 70 or so RVs, mostly on front street. We had a site near the office. Satellite reception was good. Streets are narrow so it can be tough backing into your site. We had two people to help us with the back in, so it was pretty easy. Our site was soft sand and about 3" off level. We did have a concrete drive for our truck and a brick patio for the RV. There was also a brick patio under the shade trees in back. Most streets are paved, but narrow. Lots of golf carts and bicyclist. Our site had lots of leaves on the ground which we raked up and the grass was not mowed during our stay. Warning: If you approach this park from the west on FL 70, you must make a u-turn at the stoplight in order to enter the park. For a long bed dually and 40' fifth wheel it is impossible to do. We wound up in a community next door that has narrow streets that we had to negotiate in order to get turned around. According to residents of the park, you need to turn right into Walmart so you can get turned around and come out at the stoplight. If we are in this area, we would stay here again. We camped at Big Tree RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
