Periwinkle Park & Campground, Sanibel, Florida

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

Too pricey for what you get. Limited wifi, (very limited) dirty bathrooms, rotting bath stalls with no locks on doors. They haven't spent a dime on those bathrooms in years! The beach is a 20 minute walk and their zoo attracts people during the day and rats at night. yuck! The staff was friendly but In 7 day stay, I never saw a cleaning person. I do not recommend this campground. Oh, I forgot to mention, our site's electrical box did not work! We camped at Periwinkle Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, Key Largo, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice campground although the sites are very narrow. Avoid site 32. We stayed there during 4th of July weekend 2013 and because it stormed every night we were there, our site had 4 inches of water to walk through at night. It seemed every other site had plenty of gravel and were up higher than site 32. All the rain water ran down directly onto that site. The beaches were beautiful but its the Keys, so expect rocky beaches, not soft sand beaches. Lots of sea grass with very little fish to see unless you snorkel away from the beach. Good for young kids. The kayaking was fun but pricey. Still, overall, its a big campground and the facilities are very clean. The laundry is 1.50 per load which is good compared to other campgrounds I've been too that charge $ 3+ per load. Overall I would recommend this campground to families with young kids or couples. We camped at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in a Motorhome.

Knights Key RV Resort and Marina, Marathon, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2013 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We typically visit this campground around Easter time. It has an Inn that supplies campers with very old pool tables and ping pong tables. They serve breakfast and lunch also. The Inn does close after Easter but is great place to keep the kids busy. The beach is nice (rocky because after all, it is the Keys) and a floating dock (we call it the bird poo dock) is great for tanning or diving. There are not a lot of shade trees although you may find some near site 19. Great place for families. Just before the 7 mile bridge, and gorgeous views of the sunset. Bathrooms are clean most of the time but very old. We camped at Knights Key RV Resort and Marina in a Motorhome.
