Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA, Staunton, Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

The staff is friendly (under new ownership), and they are great about bringing firewood to your site. The internal roads are winding, with tight turns. The site we were in wasn't level back to front, but otherwise was quite nice and quiet. Other sites are "pull through," but they put campers in nose to tail, so not what you think of as pull-through sites. We camped at Staunton / Walnut Hills KOA in a Motorhome.

American Heritage RV Park, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

There isn't much to do in the off season. Our dog enjoyed running in the dog park. You don't get a fire ring unless you ask, and they just put it on the grass. Sites are fairly narrow. If you're passing through, it's a good place to stay, but as a destination, not a good choice. Our site was nowhere near level. We camped at American Heritage RV Park in a Motorhome.

Lynchburg NW/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA (formerly Wildwood Campground), Monroe, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park only one mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The new owners have and are making many improvements to the campground, and we enjoyed our stay. They have goats and chickens. The pool was beautifully kept and clean and we enjoyed playing shuffleboard on the newly painted court. There are some seasonal campers and several cabins. All of the staff were courteous and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and will go back. We camped at Lynchburg NW/Blue Ridge Parkway KOA (formerly Wildwood Campground) in a Motorhome.

Douthat State Park, Clifton Forge, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in Whispering Pines campground. The sites are gravel bordered by wood, and all back-in. The park was immaculate and the campground host was friendly and helpful. All of the staff members we encountered at registration and at the lake were friendly and helpful. We had fun kayaking at the lake and enjoyed our stay. We have already made our reservation for our next stay. We camped at Douthat State Park in a Motorhome.

Shenandoah Valley Campground, Verona, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great family campground. The store is clean and well-stocked. The bathrooms are clean and the sites are well placed although some are a little tight. We have camped many times at this park and love returning. Look out for the bunnies - they're everywhere in the park. They are wild cross-bred with tame rabbits, and they will come into your site and eat whatever you're willing to share. Host is a gem, and always makes us feel welcome. We camped at Shenandoah Valley Campground in a Motorhome.

Although this park is more expensive than many we have stayed at, we enjoy this park and recommend it frequently. The camp is clean, the store is great, the staff goes above and beyond, and we love camping there. If you are looking for a great family campground you can't go wrong with the Williamsburg KOA. We camped at Williamsburg KOA in a Motorhome.

Shenandoah Hills Campground, Madison, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2013 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

The roads are in horrible shape. I just got my wheels aligned and feared that I may have to do so again. One of the owners is rude. On arrival there was no power at the pedestal. Another campground worker called, but this owner showed up. He didn't answer questions, told me that the dogbone I'd connected to change from 50 amp to 30 amp to see if there was power to either connection would burn up my electrical system, stalked off, came back, and yelled at me to turn off my generator. We finally got power turned on, and it was uneventful after that. The pool is so old and disgusting that we would not get in it. The bath house roof leaks and has a tarp covering it. The campground has far too many rules (no bike riding in the park without a helmet; wash your feet before you go into the pool area). The general feeling is old, worn out, unfriendly, and unkempt. We camped at Shenandoah Hills Campground in a Motorhome.

Hosts are great KOA hosts. They are always helpful and friendly. We have camped here several times and have been happy each time. The campground is quiet and peaceful. Make sure you check the campground site for information about which exit to use off of the Interstate. Great family campground! We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Motorhome.
