Spent 2 nights here fishing the trout stream that runs throughout the park and empties into the Maquoketa River at the edge of the park. There are many nice trails and a great playground for the kids. They also have a family of deer, a turkey and pheasants that you can see in an enclosure next to the playground. The beach on the river is a great place to wade, swim or launch a kayak. There are areas where more families were camping but also areas that were secluded and quiet so you have options depending on what you are looking for. Many sites were electric and water hookup but also lots of tent camping sites too. The one drawback is: it's first come first serve with no online reservations. With the number of sites, it wasn't a problem to find a spot.

We made a full hookup reservation a month in advance. When we got there they had received our payment, but couldn't find our reservation and had no full hookup site available. They did refund most of our money and find us a site with water and electric. This is a very noisy, dirty campground. It lies right next to the interstate and the traffic is very loud. The roads are sand and gravel and very dusty. The seasonal guests zip around on golf carts day and night going from one party to the next churning up tons of dust. This is NOT a peaceful place to stay. The pool was ok, but crowded. The restrooms were wet and dirty. The bugs were horrible. Some of the staff were rude and unfriendly. I would not recommend this campground and will not be returning there again.

This is a very well maintained and attractive park. It's a peaceful place to stay. The stocked lake was great for fishing. The pool was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were lots of activities for the kids. Though close to the interstate, there was no noise problems. It is conveniently located to area attractions so we spent one afternoon sightseeing and wine tasting. The only drawback was the WiFi was not camp-wide, but just a hotspot in the office building and we couldn't get TV reception with our camper antenna. Other then that, this is a great place to stay. I would highly recommend this campground and plan to camp here again.

Nice state park with pull-through full hookup sites. Nice fire ring with swinging grill for cooking. Close access to the beautiful lake. Our site was roomy and shaded. The bugs are bad this summer so have bug spray with you. Check for ticks if walking the trails because they were thick.
