Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 2 nights while visiting Vicksburg. Easy to find and office personnel were pleasant. Sites are not level and a little short. Some vehicles sticking out in the road which made maneuvering a little difficult. All sites are pull-through but corners are a little tight.

Water pressure & electrical voltage were excellent. Good Verizon 4G signal. Several over the air TV stations, which was good, because the park cable would not work with our TV. Office personnel had no clue and said possibly our TV was too old, although it is only 2 years old.

Some road noise from adjacent highways, but overall the park was quiet, especially at night.

We did not go to the casino but a shuttle is available. We camped at Ameristar Vicksburg RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Vicksburg Battlefield is very interesting. Don't bother with the Railroad Depot Museum, it is mainly a bunch of model trains, ships, and airplanes. We went to the old courthouse museum but backed out as soon as we entered due to the extremely strong odor of mold, to which I am highly allergic. For a great view of the river and bridges, go to the Mississippi Welcome Center just a few hundred yards west on US 61.

Tombigbee State Park, Tupelo, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here on both ends of our trip on the Natchez Trace Parkway. All sites are full hookup. Some were too short for our 25' trailer plus pickup, but several were long enough. All were a good width, site 3 is extra-wide. Sites are close to level but not perfect. We called park personnel for a reservation and they took CC info over the phone, no need to go to the office. All sites have full hook-ups, and are a great bargain at this price!

Water pressure and electric voltage were good. Verizon service was 1 or 2 bars only, switching back and forth between 3G & 4G.

Sites are a decent size & distance apart. We never saw a camp host, although there is a site for one. There is a nice playground for children. We camped at Tombigbee State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Natchez State Park, Natchez, Mississippi

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed 2 nights here while visiting Natchez. Called the park office and was able to reserve 1 of the 6 full hookup sites. If you try to do this online, the ReserveAmerica site tells you these sites are non-reservable, walk-up only. The park personnel were very pleasant, took CC info over the phone and never even needed to go to the office. Excellent value, far cheaper than the commercial RV parks in the area.

The site was clean and level. We swept pine needles off the paved pad and out of the grill but that is inevitable in a canopy of pines.

The 6 full hookup sites are parallel back-in sites in a small loop, separate from the other sites in campground A. No privacy between sites but decent width, with a table and grill at each site.

The location is very quiet with the exception of log trucks that start running about daylight and are in and out all day, on the road that leads to the park entrance. They are also the cause of the entrance road being in bad shape. The park roads are good.

Water pressure and electric voltage were good. There was also a good 4G Verizon signal.

We would definitely stay there again. We camped at Natchez State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Madison KOA, De Forest, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

100% pull-through full-hookup sites. A little short by today's standards--we are 50' total with truck and trailer, and were almost hanging out the ends of the site. Easy to get into due to layout of the park. Adequate space for awning and slides if you have them. No shade at any site I saw, weak Wi-Fi signal. VERY pleasant and helpful staff, escorted to site, spray-disinfected the water hookup, helped us line up with sewer, took and returned propane tank for fill. Ideal location for overnight stop, the trade-off is significant road noise from nearby interstate. Otherwise very quiet. We camped at Madison KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Breezy Hill Campground (formerly Fond du Lac / Eden KOA), Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Well-maintained RV park with pleasant & helpful staff. Not a KOA any longer, but KOA amenities are maintained. Several seasonal sites, and a rental unit, all nice appearance. Good Wi-Fi signal but had some software issues and could not get connected to Internet; never got to page to enter log-in code requested. Good Verizon 4G signal, so used our Jetpack instead. Our rate was for a full hook up site during EAA. We had 3 nights reserved & they were able to accomodate us for a 4th night after EAA. Check the cancellation policy as it is different during EAA. This is a good place to stay & commute to Oshkosh for EAA--very easy drive. Generally quiet except for normal kiddo noise near play areas. Very quiet during quiet hours. Very faint highway noise from US highway, but this campground is off a county road with no local traffic noise. Campground is partially shaded, nicely landscaped, and in a pleasant country setting. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. We camped at Breezy Hill Campground (formerly Fond du Lac / Eden KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

Hancock City Park, Hancock, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are small, with overhanging trees on many. Campground is across a highway from a gravel pit, lots of heavy truck noise. Many unsupervised children on bikes, lots of locals cruising through, which is a scary combination. This park does not take any credit cards, a fact not disclosed on their web site. Also no confirmation of reservation, just verbal. We called & reserved a site with electric & water, found no sites with water available on arrival. Gate attendant was very rude and unfriendly. I cannot recommend this park to anyone and would not stay here again. We camped at Hancock City Park in a Travel Trailer.
