Amarillo KOA, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed at this park before and I think it has actually improved to a degree. The interior roads are in much better condition than previous visits. The staff are very friendly and helpful and made the stay here with the somewhat high nightly rate. The gentleman that guided us to our site even offered to assist in connecting to the utilities if we wanted. While it was obvious that the area was in a drought they were still trimming and cutting where needed and I saw very little trash blowing anywhere in the park. We camped at Amarillo KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Burkburnett / Wichita Falls KOA, Burkburnett, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

The is a below average KOA with an above average price. The service at the desk was very good, however, unlike many other KOAs they did not guide you to your space. There were several very shabby trailers in the park including one motorhome with a window a/c stuck in a window and sealed around with pillows. I know the park is unable to control the weather but I do think they should be able to fill in low spots in the spaces and roads. When we were in the park there was a rain storm that left us literally wading in the morning to hook up and get on the road. I would not stay at this park again if we were traveling through that area. We camped at Burkburnett / Wichita Falls KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Weatherford / Fort Worth West KOA, Weatherford, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This remains a great place to overnight. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Our site was close and the tree branches needed trimming some, however this did make for a shady site on a very hot day. I pointed this out and the owner told me it was scheduled. I found no other places in the park where branches were an issue. We will definitely stay here again when traveling near the DFW area. We camped at Weatherford / Fort Worth West KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Angels in Goliad RV Park, Goliad, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a couple of nights. The park is well maintained and clean. There were a couple of RVs in the park that I was surprised to see given the parks stated rules but it did not impact on my overall impression of the park. The owner and/or manager was very pleasant to deal with over the phone, he told us to pick a site and get set up before calling him to register. The Wi-Fi has a strong signal and seems speedy enough. The cable has a fair amount of choices with good picture quality. I wish the park would have provided a guide to the cable channels, but that is a small point I suppose. In addition to Passport America the park also offers discounts to Military (past & present) although I am not sure of the rate. I would certainly stay here again when traveling through the area. We camped at Angels in Goliad RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beacon 44 RV Park, Port O'Connor, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This is first time in this park and this area of Texas. We love the area around here. There is sight seeing in the area and shopping is convenient in Port Lavaca and Victoria. There is a little store in town that sells the all the basics as well if you need immediate supplies and are willing to pay a small premium. This park may be the friendliest we have stayed in whether it be tenants or owners. The owners make you feel welcome and in the time we have been here there has been a pot luck, a BBQ and a shrimp boil. There are several different types of sites available, concrete pad, gravel or grass. The newest sites the park is developing do not have cable and the WiFi may be a little weak. We plan on staying longer and hope to stay here again for part of next winter. We camped at Beacon 44 RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Walmart and HEB are available in Port Lavaca as well as other shopping. Victoria is larger and had most everything including a Sam's Club. Take a day trip to Blessing, TX and have lunch at the old Blessing Hotel for an excellent home style buffet at a price you can't beat.

JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) , Canyon Lake, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $17.00
Overall Rating:

There are far more cabins in this park than on the Fort Sam side but the few RV sites are nice. Concrete pads are long and pretty level. The laundry program in the park was rather sad with only one working washer and one of the two dryers so rusty I refused to use it. There is a convenient grocery store about 3 miles away. The park has a lots of deer wandering through it. Having stayed on both sides now of JBSA Rec area I think I would prefer staying on the Randolph side again over the Fort Sam side. We camped at JBSA Sunny Side (Randolph AFB) Canyon Lake RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Laughlin Air Force Base FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Laughlin AFB, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This a small campground as far as Famcamps go but it is very nice. All the sites are long and the main pad is level concrete. My not so good rating on Service comes due to Outdoor Rec which "runs" the campground. Talk about an organization that seems clueless! We called to see if there was space available and were told that there was one. They took our payment over the phone and were assigned a space. When we arrives the space we were assigned was occupied. We called and they asked us which spaces were open. Seriously? How is that managing the campground? As a retiree I find this form of "management" to be totally embarrassing. That aside I would likely stay here again. We camped at Laughlin Air Force Base FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Stillwell Store and RV Park, Alpine, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is pretty much in the middle of nowhere but it is very convenient to the north entrance to Big Bend National Park. The manager(?) that checked us in was very pleasant and quite knowledgeable about the park. He provided a some good tips for our visit. We pretty much had run of the park as far as picking a spot as there were only 8 or so other spots in use. We camped at Stillwell Store and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

MacMillen RV Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

There is nothing special about this park. We had stayed here before nearly a year ago and nothing has really changed. There are still cockle burrs everywhere so they clearly have made no effort to control them so pet owners beware. The cable quality is good but there are not many channels and the wi-fi is pretty good. The manager was quite friendly and let me walk the available spots to choose the one I wanted. We camped at MacMillen RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Holloman AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Holloman AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is somewhat of a disappointment for a military campground. Despite the "official" information that no one is allowed to camp longer than 30 days, there are clearly some long term campers aside from the camp host. The Camp Host is a joke. He is never there and yes, he does have cats that are not restrained. I guess rules only apply to certain people. It is convenient for on base shopping but somewhat distant for "civilian" shopping. We camped at Holloman AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only), Lakewood, New Mexico

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped at this park to take advantage of a special deal where first time visitors stay for a week for $50 + electricity. We stayed another week because the park is very friendly and we did not want to be on the road over the holidays. As mentioned, the happy hour is somewhat different and we chose not to attend every night. My complaint about it would be that it was too structured. There are activities in the park such as Bingo and Pokeno. One huge plus is that all the water in the park is RO water. We are Escapees members and would definitely stop here again. We camped at The Ranch - Escapees Park (members only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Artesia, which is the town to the north, has a very nice walking tour and some nice places to dine. Carlsbad, to the south, is the larger city and has more shopping and dining. Carlsbad Caverns NP is south of the Carlsbad and a hidden gem is the Sitting Bull Falls in the Lincoln National Forest which is accessible to the west about halfway between Carlsbad and Artesia on NM-137.

Eagle's Rest RV Park & Camping, Chadron, Nebraska

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The spaces are rather close to each other but are well shaded. The park is dusty due to a well traveled gravel road next to the park. However, the park is well maintained, the owner and staff are friendly and helpful. The sewer hookup is somewhat awkward but the guide to your spot ensured you were able to connect. Tips for other Campers:

Lot's of things to do if you museums and old well kept buildings. The Dawes County Museum was very interesting. Nearby Fort Robinson is a must see and you can easily spend most of day there. For a good meal in an unlikely setting you should visit The Outpost which is quite literally in the middle of nowhere.

County Line Campground, Summit, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for a night. Owner is very friendly. They have been very busy this summer and so took a site that was a personal visitor site for the the owners and were using it for guests as well and we ended up next to the camp host/owners site. It was easy in and out. Nothing to do nearby but it is a good place to stop when traveling. They do not offer the PA discount on weekend but are a Good Sam park. Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed just one night but would not mind going back in the future for a bit longer stay. Owners were very friendly. Campground was very clean and there several well placed can and trash disposal sites to encourage that. I have to admit that this was the first RV park we have ever stayed at with on an onsite bar.
