Mono Vista RV Park, Lee Vining, California

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice independent campground - grass and trees between the campsites, clean restrooms. Our site had a nice view of Mono Lake. Only gripe is that the laundry was on the expensive side - but was clean and everything worked. We camped at Mono Vista RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Santa Fe KOA, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 2 nights at this KOA and would stop here again - it is about 10 miles outside of Santa Fe just off the interstate, and we enjoyed the rustic setting. Expect to hear some highway noise. In the campground the roads are unpaved, as are the campsites. If it has recently rained watch out for muddy spots! The bathrooms and showers were modern and had plenty of hot water. Camp store is well stocked but closed at 6pm. The laundry had 5 washers and 6 dryers, all functional but surprisingly expensive. Wi-fi worked fine, but we were not here at the high season. AT&T/T-mobile/Sprint users can expect good service throughout the campground, Verizon (which we had) is more spotty. We camped at Santa Fe KOA in a Truck Camper.

Newberry Campground (formerly Newberry KOA), Newberry, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a tired, old KOA that is badly in need of updating. The laundry room is in the basement and consists of 4 antique washing machines and 4 antique dryers (of which only 3 still work). The showers are separate from the bathrooms and modern, but also have a subterranean feel to them with no natural light and poor ventilation. My site was an uneven combination of mud and gravel, the pedestal had obviously been backed over at some point and was held together with electrical tape. The park has wifi but I was unable to make it work. We camped at Newberry Campground (formerly Newberry KOA) in a Truck Camper.

Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground, Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Craters of the Moon is a great campground, albeit with extremely limited services. The sites are small and volcanic rock unforgiving, especially for trailers / fifth wheels so be careful!

Central water points, many sites are un-level, no dump, no electric. Typical NPS campground. We camped at Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground in a Truck Camper.

Flagstaff KOA, Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We always stay at this KOA when we come through Flagstaff. It is an older KOA that has been extremely well maintained, and in 2016 is undergoing a series of upgrades after a change in ownership. Like many parks they are adding more Kabins and also upgrading electrical and converting some spaces to accomodate larger/longer RVs.
When we were there they were upgrading the laundry, installing new washers and dryers. We camped at Flagstaff KOA in a Truck Camper.

Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground, Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Your only chance to camp on the moon. Unique environment, camping in the lave flows. The rangers did interesting nightly programs in the campground amphitheater. This is a small/remote park. Don't expect to be able to do shopping once you arrive. Come with your holding tanks empty, because there is no dump station either (though nearby towns have free ones). Big rigs / trailers need to be very careful. It's a tight campground and the big rocks are unforgiving. Saw a travel trailer dragged over a boulder as the campers were driving through looking at spots. There were a few big rigs, but parking/positioning them is not for amateurs here. We enjoyed the unique setting so much that we stayed an extra night. We camped at Craters of the Moon National Monument/Lava Flow Campground in a Truck Camper.

Madison Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground in Yellowstone, just north of the big geysers and closest to the western park entrance. Does not have the large facilities of Grant Village (laundry, showers) but is very nice. Wooded campground and you can walk down to the trout stream and see the elk there. We camped at Madison Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Truck Camper.

Grant Village Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Grant Village is a very large campground but is well wooded so you don't feel it. There is a large shower / laundry building just outside the campground (you will need to drive not walk to it) with excellent showers and laundry facilities. If there is a line at the single dump station inside the campground, there is another one behind the gas station. We camped at Grant Village Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Motorhome.

Custer State Park - Stockade Lake North Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice wooded site, we camped near the top, 2 slots down from the host. Nice and quiet. The toilet/shower house was very nice. You have to make reservations by calling a toll free number. If you wait until you get to the park you probably won't have cell phone service, but each campground has a phone that you can use to call and make reservations. We camped at Custer State Park - Stockade Lake North Campground in a Truck Camper.

Cedar Pass Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Spent two nights here in September as a base for Badlands touring. You can't beat the location and can have some great open views and night skies. Because of the location, there are no trees or anything to provide any privacy from the other campers. Since not all sites have electric, be prepared to hear a lot of generators running. It was really hot when we stayed (over 100 degrees) so that may account for the number of generators running at all hours. We camped at Cedar Pass Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Truck Camper.

Mt. Pisgah Campground (NPS), Canton, North Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

NPS Campground directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This is a great location. A almost 5000 feet it gets you above the summer heat, and the lots are mostly secluded. Loop A is the least level, Loop B improves, and Loops C/D (tent camping only) are pretty flat. If you want hot showers, be aware that Loop A has a toilet, but no showers. This is a great rustic campground in a mature wooded environment. No hookups (2 dump + 2 water stations). Very impressed with how well the staff keeps the place up. The Pisgah Inn / Restaurant is directly across the street (5-10 minute walk) so if you feel like not cooking there is a great breakfast/lunch/dinner option nearby - with beer/wine license. We camped at Mt. Pisgah Campground (NPS) in a Truck Camper.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

As they say in real estate "location, location, location." This campground has it! Closest campground by far to Monument Valley, though there are no views from the campground. In terms of amenities, no issues but no real superlatives (aside from the location). Well kept, and well run, no issues. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Truck Camper.
