Woodland Acres Campground, Brownfield, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Rented a pull-thru and two tent sites for our family kayaking weekend; all sites were spacious, private, and shaded. VERY BUGGY!! They really need to spray for mosquitoes! Sites were all sand, no grass at all. No cable, WIFI didn't work, and poor cell phone signal. Bathrooms were clean, but dated and there is no bench in the shower area to put your belongings on. I was quite surprised by the extra fees at this place - $3 per night for your dog, so $44 became $47/night. And then I got socked with a $3.50 reservation fee PER SITE, so since I booked three sites, I paid an extra $11 to give them my business! For those reasons we will find a different place to stay next year. Kayak rental/shuttle service was very convenient, but if you arrive back after 5PM, they will charge you for an extra day. We camped at Woodland Acres Campground in a Motorhome.

Saco River is crystal clear and has a beautiful sandy bottom, but there was no current at all, so kayaking was all paddling. Tubing would not have been possible.

Holiday Park Campground, Traverse City, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

What a beautiful resort on Silver Lake! Apparently it used to be an Airstream only park, so there are still many of them there and they are just so cool to look at! Lots of sites are actually owned by people so they are nicely landscaped and several have porches/patios. You see the pride of ownership everywhere, which is so refreshing. Our site even had a porch swing! We were on site 102 which is part of the "woods". Sites there were large, private, and had plenty of foliage between them. Cable, WIFI, and cell phone service (Verizon) were all excellent. Beach was beautiful. Only complaint is that there were lots of golf carts and they were all driving too fast. We camped at Holiday Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Route 31 is very busy so turning left out of the campground (especially with an RV) can be hazardous. There is an exit only gate (right turn only) available within the campground that takes you to Route 31 safely. The office pointed it out to us when we registered.

Timbersurf Campground Resort, Fountain, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

No cable or WIFI. Mostly seasonals at this campground, but everyone was very friendly. They only have a few sites with sewer, and none were available for us, but the dump station is easily accessible and free. Round Lake is a nice lake, but there isn't really much of a beach at this campground, just a small strip of sand. The fire flies and stars were amazing!!! We camped at Timbersurf Campground Resort in a Motorhome.

Meinert County Park, Pines Campground, Montague, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Loved this place! Small, quiet campground with very nice grassy sites. No cable; WIFI was nonexistent, and cell phone (Verizon) service was very poor. Short walk to beautiful Lake Michigan. Only complaint was that we had to pay $5/day for a car pass even though we were already paying to camp there. Didn't make sense to me, but still a great value! We camped at Meinert County Park, Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Butterfly Camping Resort, Jackson, New Jersey

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for a weekend while visiting Six Flags. This is a small campground. Pull thru sites were OK but all other sites were very small and would not have accommodated our motorhome. Wifi and cable were good (and free). Pool was nice. Bathrooms were very clean and looked pretty new. Campground was a 15 minute drive to Six Flags. Lots of restaurants nearby and also close to outlets. We'll definitely stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at Butterfly Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Holiday Trav-L-Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $89.00
Overall Rating:

This was a large, very busy campground. Got there Saturday of 4th of July weekend and had to wait an hour just to check in. Started off on site 344 which was a very nice back-in site. Other sites in that area were small and would not have accommodated our motorhome. Had to pay extra to use the wifi and the connection was horrible. The cable TV was fuzzy. Also had to pay extra for a fire ring (REALLY?!?!??). Golf carts were everywhere and management did not enforce rules when it came to only licensed drivers operating the golf carts. Also saw more than one person drinking beer while driving them. The campground website boasts 4 pools, but only two were open at any given time while we were there. Things quieted down quite a bit after the holiday weekend and we were able to move to a supersite. This site was very nice and included a fire ring in the price. Bathrooms were filthy and I was thankful that I didn't have to use them. We liked the location of this park - close enough to everything but not in the crazy downtown area. We camped at Holiday Trav-L-Park in a Motorhome.

Hemlock Hill Camp Resort, Litchfield, Connecticut

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

Resort? I don't think so. No cable; no sewer; no WiFi - how is that a resort? When I called to book the site I was told that it was the last weekend for camping so the pool and hot tub were closed, there were no activities planned and the store would be closed. We really only wanted a place to park the motorhome while we did some leaf peeping so that didn't matter to us. I was surprised that we were still charged the full summer weekend rate, even when I asked for a discount. The campground looks like it is mostly seasonals and the sites are not kept up very well. Driving to our site seemed like we were driving thru an automotive junkyard. Our fire pit was overflowing with garbage and brush. Truly disappointing experience. We camped at Hemlock Hill Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Hersheypark Camping Resort (formerly Hershey Highmeadow Campground), Hummelstown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

This was our third visit to this campground over the past 20 years. The convenience of having a shuttle service to the parks and being able to go in an hour before the general public are the only good things I have to say. The sites are small and very close together. The staff apparently doesn't care to enforce rules as long as people have paid the visitor fees. We had a group of 35 (this is not an exaggeration) that had flood lights set up in the site next to us. They were plugged into electrical outlets belonging to two other sites, and they were constantly walking through our site. When asked not to, they claimed to not understand English. I went to the office twice to complain and was basically told that there was nothing they could do because they had paid the visitor fee. Apparently there is no maximum occupancy per site as long as they can collect some money. After my second trip to the office and an argument with the manager and security, they finally went to their site and made them shut the flood lights off. Too little too late. We will definitely not be back. We camped at Hersheypark Camping Resort (formerly Hershey Highmeadow Campground) in a Motorhome.

Otter Lake Camp Resort, East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

The road in to this campground is narrow, windy, and straight up for 7 miles. I honestly didn't think we were going to make it. There is no shoulder so we couldn't even pull over to disconnect the car or let all of the vehicles behind us pass. When we checked in, I commented to the staff that they should tell people when they are booking motorhome sites that the road in is not motorhome friendly. I was informed that there was a better route than what comes up on GPS. We traveled that road for the few days we were there and it was much better. Why wouldn't you alert people to this either on the website or when someone books a site. Lesson learned though - I will always ask when booking a site at any campground if there are any travel concerns or GPS warnings. Once there, we had trouble getting to our site because of unattended children on bikes purposely riding in front of us and even leaving a bike in the middle of the road. This is a nice campground with large sites, but could use some updating. If we decide to go back to the area, I think we will choose a different campground. We camped at Otter Lake Camp Resort in a Motorhome.

Homestead by the River, Biddeford, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

What a great campground! Very small and quiet place, quite unlike the busy places in nearby Old Orchard Beach. Sites are large, shady, and grassy. Campground is on the beautiful Saco River. Wifi was nonexistent at our site, but I saw people on laptops sitting on benches outside the office. Extra $4/day if you want to use your AC. We camped at Homestead by the River in a Motorhome.

Twin Shores Camping Area, Kensington, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

This is a HUGE campground, but sites are not at all cramped. Sites are large and grassy. Beautiful views, especially the sunsets! The beaches seem to go on forever and the water was much warmer that I expected. Didn't spend much time on the beach though because the temperature was cooler than normal for that time of year (our max temp was 74) and it was painfully windy. Wifi was virtually nonexistent and they will only give you one login code - if you have more than one device you have to pay for additional codes. Beautiful campground but I couldn't rate it higher because of the lack of cable, swimming pool, and poor wifi. We camped at Twin Shores Camping Area in a Motorhome.

Roaring Point Waterfront Campground, Nanticoke, Maryland

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet park. There isn't much around - nice casual restaurant with outdoor seating down the street but that's about it. Roads are very bicycle friendly. Site 21 was a grassy, shaded site but a little tight if you have a canopy and a slide. Bathrooms were clean but dated. Camp store hours are rather limited. No cable or Wi-Fi, so I thought the price was a little high. Was rather annoyed that the guys cutting the grass and weed whacking felt the need to do our site while we were packing up to leave and couldn't wait until we were done. There were many empty sites that they could have done first, and it was still an hour before checkout time. The beach and the water are great and the sunsets are beautiful! We camped at Roaring Point Waterfront Campground in a Motorhome.

Ocean Waves Campground, Waves, North Carolina

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice, no frills campground. Short walk from your site to the beach. No open fires are allowed at the campground, but permits to have a campfire on the beach are available at the office. Sites are on the small side, but that is typical for the area. Not much of anything to do in Waves itself except the beach. Closest grocery store is 15 miles south. Nags Head and Kitty Hawk are a 45 minute drive. Some shade at the pool would be nice, maybe add a couple of tables with umbrellas. Great fishing out of Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. We camped at Ocean Waves Campground in a Motorhome.

We stayed here for our annual tubing weekend. We were in a motorhome and the rest of our group were on tent sites. Nice campground with large grassy sites. Very convenient to the Deerfield River and Shelburne Falls (Bridge of Flowers and Glacial Potholes.) My only complaint is that the grass needed to be cut. We will definitely be back next year. We camped at Country Aire Campground in a Motorhome.

Wells Beach Resort Campground, Wells Beach, Maine

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $82.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great campground! We stayed on a Premier RV site which was $82-90 depending on what day of the week you are staying. I'm glad we spent the extra money because the Premium and Deluxe RV sites would be very tight for any motorhome. Location is very convenient to beaches and restaurants. Wifi isn't the greatest....can't always connect, and it's rather slow. Pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was here. We will definitely be back! We camped at Wells Beach Resort Campground in a Motorhome.
