Escalante Cabins and RV Park (formerly Grand Staircase Resort), Escalante, Utah

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice new park at the west edge of Escalante town. Right across from the National Park Visitor Center. Friendly staff and they had lots of info on hiking and activities in the area. They're continuing to upgrade the sites. Great views of the surrounding mountains and cliffs. Restrooms are new and very clean. This is my second stay here in two months. All sites are pull through and we saw a 45 footer with a 30' trailer fit in the spot, so the spots are long. We camped at Escalante Cabins and RV Park (formerly Grand Staircase Resort) in a Motorhome.

Kanab RV Corral, Kanab, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Traveled with another party and they were able to get us side by side in two very nice spots secluded by trees. The owners are super friendly and they're working very hard on their park. This is my third stay here in a year and there are always improvements being made. This is our go-to park when we come to Kanab. We camped at Kanab RV Corral in a Motorhome.

Salt Lake City KOA, Salt Lake City, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Love all the trees in this park! It super convenient to town with the light rail right across from the office. It's a bit pricey, but location and trees make it worth it. Seems like a growing number of permanent residents, which is a bummer for travelers and availability. We camped at Salt Lake City KOA in a Motorhome.

Fairway RV Park, Blackfoot, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We were here for the eclipse. They charged $200 for four nights for this event. This is double the normal rate of $25 but given the demand I thought it was very fair. The grass where we parked was very nice and green. It's my dog's favorite park so far for this reason. They only rented out their central section as their state fair was 10 days away. Even then, it was only 1/2 sold out, so we didn't have to be back to back in the spots. Overall it was very quiet, but the train tracks were about ½ mile away and they appear to get paid by the whistle blow! Earplugs took care of this, though. We'd definitely stay here again. I think during regular times it's got a lot of room so you can get more space between rigs. We camped at Fairway RV Park in a Motorhome.

Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA , Arco, Idaho

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Got two sites side by side. Gravel parking with a pretty wide swath of grass between the sites. The gravel in the sites was very good, but not super level, but was able to easily level with jacks. The gravel in the roads could use some addition as they were fairly dusty to walk on. Staff was plentiful and friendly. They had an ice cream social in the evening for a dollar a scoop. They also offered a large waffle with the fixings in the morning for free. Quiet area- could barely hear the main road a few blocks away. No trains, a relief from other stays on this trip. We camped at Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA in a Motorhome.

Got a last-minute 50A site. Space between sites is decent. We had trees overhead for nice shade, but the satellite didn't work, which is okay. The office staff was very friendly and we were escorted to our site (24). We camped at Vale Trails RV Park in a Motorhome.

Las Cruces KOA, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight stay. All gravel, as expected in the desert. Beautiful views as the campground overlooks the city from the west. Walked to the back-in sites with the view. Gorgeous! Will definitely stay in one of those next time we're through and have time to visit. Friendly staff and spotless restrooms. Close to I-10, but super quiet. Clearwater Travel Resort, Clearwater, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects monthly rate of $800.
Spent two months here visiting family. The staff is very friendly. Lots of park models and a large RV storage area. Quiet overall. Just far enough off Gulf to Bay to be convenient but not too loud. I'd recommend campers enter through the gate off Bayside on the east end as the turn off Gulf to Bay has quite a rise with a lot of scraping going on. There is a gate on the Bayside entrance that is closed after 5 PM. Opens with a code.
Folks were friendly and they appeared to have a lot of activities.
Convenient to get on Courtney Cambell causeway to Tampa.
We'll definitely stay here next time we're visiting. We camped at Clearwater Travel Resort in a Motorhome.

Jacksonville RV Park (Military FamCamp), Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

Only stayed two nights because they were busy. Not surprising as the rate is super and the facilities were very nice. We were in Spot 12, which is gravel. It was level and drained well even during a 'Noah-level' deluge one of the days. Wifi was extra and we went without, so I can't comment. Sites were roomy and staff was friendly. Host also met us on the way in and escorted us to the site. We'll book earlier next time and stay longer. We camped at Jacksonville RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Camp Meade RV Park (Military FamCamp), Fort Meade Army Post, Maryland

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We've been here a month with a couple more weeks to go. This is a very nice park. Spacious lots, very nice laundry and shower building with a couple break room/library/game areas. Lots of trees but probably ? to ½ of sites are possible for satellite reception. Overall very quiet, except for the base special of reveille at 0630 over the base loudspeakers. Earplugs are useless to counteract, but we got used to it. Better than train whistles or traffic noise. They don't do it on the weekends.

They don't have wifi or cable, though I understand they're working on that right now.
Only downside is there's been a bit of musical spots. Their reservation software doesn't optimize the spots to minimize moves, so we moved twice in a week, but spent almost a month in the current spot. Seemed like it could be minimized since it was mostly people already there moving around. When we extended, the person we dealt with in the office made it so we didn't have to move again, but the experience/interest level of the staff varies.
This is certainly the best value in the DC area. We will be back in the spring for sure.
Rate based on monthly rate. We camped at Camp Meade RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

15 min to BWI Airport
Check traffic conditions before you go anywhere. Lots of traffic here.
MARC Train from Odenton (Penn Line) runs mostly all day. Other line is just commuter times. MARC to the Metro is the only way to go to DC. Way too painful to drive into DC. Lack of parking in DC adds to the pain. We did drive to the Greenbelt Metro station once. That's better than driving all the way in if the MARC Train times don't work for you.

Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA, Jonestown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Just an overnight stay. Escorted to the site. Asked for and they changed me to one that would allow satellite reception. They have a great camp store and serve rotisserie chicken at dinner (I smelled it at checkin, smelled great, but had other plans). Also had breakfast. I had a breakfast burrito that was delicious and inexpensive. Site was pull through and roomy. There is a creek running along one side of the camp. I could see staying a few days here. I didn't hear any noise from the freeway. Truck stop right off the freeway for fueling. About 20 minutes to Harrisburg. They also have a shuttle to HersheyPark. We camped at Jonestown / Hershey NE KOA in a Motorhome.

Sylvan Lake Beach Park, Hopewell Junction, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Nice place. We were parked in the Meadow loop. This seemed to have more transients than the other loops. We parked on the south side of the loop. Lots of room, on grass. No satellite in out spot due to trees. Parking on the north side of Meadow loop would allow reception.
Price is decent for the area. Close to Tacomic Pkwy for car travel. We would stay here again when in the area. We camped at Sylvan Lake Beach Park in a Motorhome.

Kickapoo State Recreation Area, Oakwood, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Got a no-reservation spot with 50A electric. Toward the back of the park. Paved roads throughout. Sites were gravel/grass. Our site (37) was slightly uphill to the back and side, but nothing we couldn't level out with our jacks.
Other than cicadas, it was very quiet. We got there on a Friday afternoon and it was filling up.
Lots of places to walk around, with lakes for fishing and an area to rent canoes and kayaks.
This campground was good for one night for us, but would be nice for a longer stay as well.
Only $10 for a non-electric site. Several water spigots around the sites. Also two more at the dump station. We camped at Kickapoo State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Rustic Barn RV Park, Kieler, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

The Location is great - close to Dubuque and other sites in the area. Our site was level but very tight to our neighbor. Worked fine, though. We passed on the very nice-looking (and wider) back-in sites so we could get satellite reception. Most sites are nicely shaded. Lots of amenities with a room off the office with games and books. We will definitely stay here again next time we're in the area. Looking forward to seeing the new owner's planned upgrades, too. We camped at Rustic Barn RV Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed overnight after leaving Vegas. Level dirt spots. Quiet while we were here. Gal checking me in was friendly. Best thing here was the WiFi. Fastest I've experienced at a park. 5 MBPS per SpeedTest. I really needed it today so it was much appreciated.
