PGE Park Pelton, Madras, Oregon

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here during the recent eclipse and had a great time. The park was clean and well cared for despite a hard scrabble high desert vibe. Our site had electric only but amazing lake front access. Sites are level-ish and the entire campground is a bit rugged but the remote location and beautiful canyon make this a worthwhile destination. The access road is winding and large rigs may have some challenges. Park staff was accommodating and polite. The small marina that is adjacent to the park has boat and pontoon rentals as well as ice and a few staples for sale. There is no cell service here or wifi. We camped at PGE Park Pelton in a Travel Trailer.

Pearrygin Lake State Park, Winthrop, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely park near Winthrop WA. This state park has recently expanded, acquiring an old private fishing camp. Beautiful hilly terrain and a clear lake that is just right for kayaking. When reserving sites look at the A and B loops. The C loop sits on the shores of the recently acquired fishing camp and is not up to usual standards. The Parks folks told me they had an improvement plan on the horizon for this section. Many sites are not level here - bring extra blocks but the trade off is fabulous views. On the AB loop the best sites are at the bottom of the hill right on the water (36-45) or on the inside of the loop road on the central grassy lawn. The outside sites are pull-throughs and while they abut forest, the sites tend to be hard scrabble. Beware at the dump station of the sign placed in just the perfect location to scrape the side of your rig as you exit. Lots of deer in the campground - just lovely. We camped at Pearrygin Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Brooks Memorial State Park, Goldendale, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We were in site 23 with a view of a wooded Hill side and an apple tree in our site. Sites with numbers above 20 are more private.

Downsides include creepy crackle from 500 kv lines, yellow jackets and no AT&T cell service. We camped at Brooks Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

A tiny gem right on the Columbia. Amazing riparian life in this area! Campground was well kept. If you are planning to camp here be mindful of the height restriction at the park entrance. We camped at Port of Cascade Locks Marine Park in a Travel Trailer.

Gallagher Lake Resort (formerly Gallagher Lake KOA), Oliver, British Columbia

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This former KOA is located on a small but lovely spring fed lake. Reservations were easy and park staff friendly. We stayed at the tail end of the season and were practically the only folks in the lower campground. The lower campground does not accept pets and has a few rental cabins along with the usual sites. Sites are close together and parking can be a challenge if you have a longer rig. We had a lovely stay but if the campground were full we would have been on top of our neighbors. There is little privacy here. The resort abuts a trailer park with well kept mobile homes and signage is somewhat confusing. Be careful not to get into the mobile home park as there is no turn around. No campfires are permitted in sites. WiFi was excellent! We camped at Gallagher Lake Resort (formerly Gallagher Lake KOA) in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Easton State Park, Easton, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice paved site adjacent to beautiful Lake Easton - kayaker heaven. Pretty park but close to I-90. You can hear Lots of highway traffic all night. While our visit was in the shoulder season and peaceful, the large day use area and boat launch area look heavily used. We camped at Lake Easton State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Plymouth Park COE, Plymouth, Washington

Date of Stay: September, 2014 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely grassy lawns and many shaded sites on the Columbia River. Almost all sites here are pull through and while sites are very large, the linear nature of the loop road means that privacy is somewhat lacking. Sites are large, level and flat. It's worth noting that only a few sites have full hookups. Encroaching tree roots have caused the sewers at many sites to be taken out of service. There is a dump station however. The playground here is recently redone and lovely - sure to be a draw for kids. Access to the shore is limited by overgrowth and a steep bank. The boating and swimming access is about 3/4 mile. Awesome spot for kayaking and bird watching. Sandhill cranes and blue herons love this area. We will be back! We camped at Plymouth Park COE in a Travel Trailer.

Salt Creek Recreation Area, Port Angeles, Washington

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful coastal views and tide pools! The campground itself is in a historic site with WWII gun emplacements on display - a great history lesson. Site in the campground vary widely. We stayed in the wooded section of the park where there are no hookups. Sites are tight for RVs, but privacy is high due to many trees. Non-hook up sites seem intended for tenters but we chose this section of the park rather than the open bluff area with hookups. Views from the bluff area are spectacular but privacy is non-existent. The park was packed with families and kids during our visit. We camped at Salt Creek Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.
