Naples KOA Campground (formerly Naples Campground), Naples, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Great married couple own this park. They were super helpful in suggesting things to do and see. There is a small restaurant that they operate. The food was very good. Nice Laundry facilities. This park was spotless. One the neatest parks we have ever seen. There are a number of seasonal renters, but the sites are well maintained. Owners are currently working on expanding the park. Good location close to Sebago Lake. We camped at Naples KOA Campground (formerly Naples Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed the ride on the Songo River Queen II. Sebago is a beautiful lake. Also, Sebago Lake State Park was beautiful. Visit the Songo Lock. It was very interesting watching the boats navigate the lock.

Balsam Woods Campground, Abbot Village, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. Very well maintained with large gorgeous treed sites. The only issue with our site was there is a limited number of 50 AMP sites so we could not get 50 AMP site and had to make due with a 30 AMP site. Good facilities. Beautiful pool and grounds. Great folks working in the office. The park has access to a multitude of ATV trails so lots of ATVs around, but everyone was well behaved. They had movie nights for the children. Only thing missing was a dog park. Would definitely stay there again. We camped at Balsam Woods Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Don't rely on your Garmin to get to Pond Rd. Our RV 760LMT set to motorhome wanted to send us across a non existent bridge on Pride's Loop to Pond Rd. Luckily it was a not a dead end and looped back to the main road. There are signs pointing to Balsam Woods. Pond Rd is before you go over the small bridge.

Boston Minuteman Campground, Littleton, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We had a very nice pull thru site. Great trees. The escort to the site was one of the best we have ever had. He helped us position our 5th wheel just so to get the maximum benefit from the site. Good cable, park is too treed for any satellite access. Two dog parks - one is only suitable to small dogs, but the one out front can accomodate larger dogs. Little sports activity area in the same area. Make sure that you accurately described your site when making reservations as there were a few sites that are on the diagonal to each other. With a larger rv, the tow vehicle or toad may partially block the other site. Park is convenient to Boston via either train or subway. We were advised to use the subway line due to parking requirements for our crew cab dually truck. As it turned our we could access the closer train at the West Concord station. We camped at Boston Minuteman Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wild Acres RV Resort and Campground (formerly NASCAR RV Resorts), Old Orchard Beach, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $92.00
Overall Rating:

Lots of things to do at this park. Several pools and spas, playgrounds, and concert area. Good programs available for children. There are a fair amount of seasonal rentals here, but they are meticulously maintained. Most of the sites are nicely shaded. There are golf cart rentals available and a well stocked store. It is about a 10 to 15 min walk to the beach, but the shuttle is also available near front gate. We looked at other parks in the area while we were there. While there were other good choices in the area, we would happily stay at Wild Acres again. Very busy check in especially on Friday, but the office was efficient. We camped at Wild Acres RV Resort and Campground (formerly NASCAR RV Resorts) in a Fifth Wheel.

Lobster pound just outside of park has good food. Twin lobster dinner was a good deal.

Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $73.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a bit of a drive off the interstate, but worth it. Two laned paved road to park is a little hilly, but go slow and it is fine. Very pretty park with excellent maintenance. Some really nice patio sites and roomy sites with light shade. Good cable, but satellite is accessible on a number of the sites. We had a super nice long pull thru site. One of the best dog parks I have seen which is important to us on longer trips with our puppy. We camped at Elizabethtown / Hershey KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We found this to be a good base camp for sightseeing Hershey and Amish countryside. For a good meal, try TJ Rockwells which has a diverse menu. Just a warning, it is crazy busy on the weekends.

Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA, Natural Bridge, Virginia

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $82.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was hilly. We double blocked our 5th wheel so it did not slide back when unhooking. There were other sites in the park that were more level. There had been heavy rains and a fair amount of erosion making some of the areas rough to walk. Site was a little narrow and short for our 5th wheel and truck. Restroom and showers were ok. In a pinch, we would stay there again, but would be careful on the site selection. We camped at Natural Bridge / Lexington KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The Barnyard RV Park, Lexington, South Carolina

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Park is located behind Barnyard Flea Market. It is the 2nd flea market on this road so do not turn at the first one. You see the Barnyard flea market sign and turn at the Burger King for the best route behind the flea market to the park. Park is about 4 miles from hwy. Nice neat office and friendly staff. Level Pull thru site was just long enough for us to stay hooked up for the night. Good cable, 50 AMP service and water pressure. Easy in and out. Great for a one night stop. We camped at The Barnyard RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Savannah South KOA, Richmond Hill, Georgia

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Great little KOA which is very well run. Just about a mile or so from hwy. Plenty of gas stations, restaurants, etc convenient to park. We actually ordered delivery from the local Italian restaurant which was good. Nice camp store and well run office. The escort to our pull thru site made sure everything was working correctly for us. Site was level and long with plenty of room to stay hooked up. Easy in and out. Park has a high pressure RV wash area for a fee which was nice since it was love bug season. Nice 35 acre lake with, ducks, geese, and beautiful swans. The front area of the park is transient sites with seasonal or annual sites on the back area. Some reviews complained that there was a lot of traffic in and out and speeding thru the transient site area. We did not observe that at all. Garbage was picked up daily at the site. We would use this park again for both overnight and even longer stays to sight see Savannah. It was about 20 minutes outside Savannah's historical area. We camped at Savannah South KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

New York City North / Newburgh KOA, Plattekill, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Park is a little off the main hwy, but the road is manageable. These were last minute reservations so we could not get a 50 AMP site, but we got a nicely wooded pull thru next to the bathrooms. Site had cable which was a necessity due to tree cover. Bathrooms were clean. There was a nice office, camp store, and wine tasting area. Good for an overnight stop. We would use it again. The only downside is they require a 2 night stay on the weekend. We camped at New York City North / Newburgh KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par, Ellsworth, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Nice family campground located in Ellsworth. Full hookup 50 AMP, water, sewer, and cable sites that were nicely maintained and level. Park is very treed with a state park feel to it. On site owners that are helpful and friendly. We stayed a few days here while waiting for a new refrigerator for our unit. The park was recommended to us by Ellsworth RV as it was near the shop. They are great to work with. The only negative to this the park was that it was a little off the beaten path if you were in the area to sight see Acadia. There are several seasonal sites, but they were all very neatly maintained. We camped at Forest Ridge Campground and RV Park (Formerly Hospitality Woods RV par in a Fifth Wheel.

Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails, Trenton, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We originally made reservations for an oceanfront site, but the one available was a tight fit for our RV so we opted for one of the Select pull thrus. Rate reflects that site classification. This is in our opinion, truly the only big rig park in the area that has full amenities and is on the Island Explorer route. Both the back in sites down towards the water and even the Select Pull Thrus had a view of the water when you were outside. Site and park was beautifully maintained. The laundry facilities, bathroom and shower rooms were excellent. Check in procedure was well organized with a nice office and camp store. Personnel were helpful and professional. The seasonal sites are away from the transient sites and are neatly maintained as well. We camped at Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails in a Fifth Wheel.

Camden Hills State Park, Camden, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Nice state park. Limited big rigs sites available. Big rigs need to be in the field area which has fairly large sites that are open. Rangers are nice to work with. Bathroom and shower rooms are clean, but maybe a little dated. No laundry facilities. Mount Battie and many hiking trails available in the park including an area located on the water across the road from the main park. Nice food take out just outside the park. It is about a 5 minute drive to Camden. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Camden Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Charlottesville KOA, Charlottesville, Virginia

Date of Stay: September, 2013 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is the only campground convenient to Monticello. Follow the park's website directions to it to avoid traffic. This park is about 11 miles from the highway. The road to it is a two lane paved road with 55 mile speed limit which was way too fast for us to drive our fifth wheel on this somewhat curvy road. This park has one of the strangest layouts we have seen. The dump station is right on the side of the main drive. You have to park on the main road and walk down to office to register. Registration was organized and painless. We had a pull-through site which had a short steep downhill approach into the site. The electric hookup was towards the front of the site which would have been a problem for us if we did not carry a 50 AMP 25' extension with us since our electric connection is at the back of our RV. Only second time we needed to us this extension. To exit this site you had to make a tight left turn which inconveniently had a tree right at the edge of the road. Lucky for us, site in front of us that led to a road out was not occupied, so we pulled through that site to get out as it did not have any trees obstructing the turn. Several sites had really steep approaches into the site. Roads through this park were tight to navigate with a larger rig. We camped at Charlottesville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Salisbury Beach State Park, Salisbury, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Worse check-in experience ever. We pulled into campground driveway and waited a little over an hour to get to the office to check in. They were unbelievably slow checking in the incoming units and they let some people who ignored the line go ahead of the long line of us who were patiently waiting. Beware the need for your pet's vaccination records. I don't think that is a bad thing, but they will not process your site assignment until you can present it. We changed site after a couple of days in order to lengthen our stay and had to go back to our RV to re-supply them with the records again even though they had the record info in their computer. Also, pets cannot be left alone in RV, so you need to make boarding arrangements for them when you are out sightseeing. This is due to the fear that there might be a power outage and since the sites sit in the open blazing sun, your pets ay not survive the outage. Sites okay - angled back ins with fairly sandy ground if you do not line up correctly. Streets are suppose to be one way, but it was not enforced causing a few issues with rigs trying to back in and cars zipping in and out. Dump station was a two lane station, so although it was busy on the way out, it was not too bad. However, there is not a pipe to stick your sewer fitting into as there is just an open drain slot to ay your sewer hose by. Beach is accessible from park by walking to day area to get around seawall that protects the river inlet. No swimming is allowed on riverside. You need to be on the oceanside to swim which is accessible in day area. We camped at Salisbury Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sunsetview Farm Camping Area, Monson, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Be sure to follow the directions on the campground's website to get to this park. Your GPS will put you on Beebe Rd which is not big rig friendly. We called last minute for a site and it was the same time as their Halloween weekend so they were sold out. The hosts were nice enough to let us rent the owner's site next to the old barn across the street from the park. Honestly, if we are in the area again, we would prefer that site to the sites in the park. The park was booked and very crowded so a nice quiet site in the park was not a possibility. The park does do a fabulous Halloween blow out. Music, costume party and haunted ride with multiple sites decorated. The children in the park had a great time. Nice pool and swimming lake, rec center and snack bar on site. The laundry room was neat and clean although a little small. One of the better campstores we have seen with a nice office and professional hosts. We camped at Sunsetview Farm Camping Area in a Fifth Wheel.
