Santa Fe KOA, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

I think this CG is a bit over priced. It is convenient to I-25 so a good one or two night stop. Laundry was good, wifi was the usual (very slow in the evening, slow other times). Our pad was a bit narrow. We camped at Santa Fe KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of those parks that is worth the price. Our pad was a little too short to leave the TV hooked up but was as wide as 2 "Normal" CG pad sites, parking was ample. The gravel pad needed about an inch of leveling. Although the surface was gravel there was no dust or dirt to track in the 5th. We were escorted to our site and assisted in backing in. Very quiet at night. Mornings and evenings the wildlife was out. Turkey being the most common that I witnessed although the morn we left I counted 9 mule-ear doe and as many turkey. It is a bit out of town, about half way between Colo Springs and Canyon (Canon) City but the quiet was very nice. The Bride rates this CG and Lazy Days in Tucson as her favorites. This is a PA park but there are many exclusions and our stay didn't qualify. We camped at Mountaindale Cabins & RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

The Royal Gorge train is nice but doesn't match the Durango-Silverton ride but is nice. We thought El Caporal in Canyon (Canon) City an excellent restaurant tho the margaritas were not quite to our taste.

Big Pine Campground, Custer, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is a gem of a CG. Level sites, good utilities and lots of shade. Plenty of room to walk the wiener dog and wildlife parading thru in the afternoon/evenings (deer, wild turkey). The owner led us to our site and helped to back us in. We stayed 10 days and I saw him sitting on the porch one time, always in motion. There is no cable and we found only 1 air channel but the wifi worked very well compared to most CG's we've visited. Laundry/game room were very good. We camped at Big Pine Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Restaurants we liked: 1881 Bank, Baker's Bakery cafe, Pizza Mill, Custer Wulf, Bugling Bull, Cowboy Cafe, Begging Burro, Black Hills Burger and Bun, Dakota BBQ. Custer is pretty convenient for visiting the local sites and Devil's Tower and the Badlands Scenic Loop are manageable as a day trip.

Sandpiper RV Resort, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We've stayed here a few times and I've reviewed this park before but am adding another review. This is a great location and the price reflects that. However, for that price I'd like the internet to work and the dumpster is overflowing. The park was full for the weekend but it's now Monday afternoon and the park is less than 25% occupied and the park internet is still down. The pads are concrete, long and level. The utilities were all good. The cable service is only fair. We camped at Sandpiper RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

DiamondJacks Casino and Resort, Bossier City, Louisiana

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a basic park attached to the Diamond Jack's Casino. Convenient to I-20 but I noticed no highway noise. There are train tracks with seemingly constant traffic very near but I was not bothered. The campground seemed pretty busy and was full on the weekend and may be used by overnighters. We camped at DiamondJacks Casino and Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

We did not enjoy the casino. It was mostly empty (mid week) and only the buffett was serving. We were not impressed. Don Juanz Baja Tacos serves unique and delicious seafood tacos and is worth a visit. The margaritas were not to our taste though.

Table Rock Lake State Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Table Rock SP is pretty tired, probably due to the traffic it sees. Our pad is a concrete, full-hookup, back-in and has a bare muddy area where our stairs hit the ground. If you need 50A be sure to book a "premium" site. I did not pick up on that and we are stuck in a 30A site (my fault). It's Sunday before 4th of July and the place is packed. We camped at Table Rock Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Filling Station and Rockin' Pig were good restaurants. I think having pulled pork on the menu must be a city ordanence, maybe even a state law. Eureka Springs is a beautiful town that thrives on its tourist draw. The roads to/from and in town are narrow and have many tight turns but we pulled our 39' 5er without incident.

Ozark Country Campground, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

I consider the park reasonably priced with our discount (50%) but not worth the full price. We were guided to our site and assisted in positioning. The CG is older and a bit tired looking. The playground is suitable for kids up to 4, not impressive. We camped at Ozark Country Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lone Star Jellystone Park, Waller, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

We've visited annually the last 5 years and this year it's subtlety different. The employees are friendlier, things are more tidy and I noticed some infracture improvements. It's pricey if you want a CG but throw in the water park and it's not too bad. Our grandson is 10 and we think he's "outgrowing" the park, it seems to target the younger kids. It's a good place to visit and my hat's off to them for the improvements. We camped at Lone Star Jellystone Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oak Creek RV Park, Weatherford, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is our go to CG for Weatherford. This year the number of full-timers seems higher but all sites are tidy. We are closer to I-20 than previous visits and the noise is more noticeable but is ok. I'll ask for a pad a little deeper in the park in future visits. We camped at Oak Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Before the Interstate system travel across Texas was largely county seat to county seat. The Interstates bypass most of these and these little towns started to dry up (watch the movie "Cars" for a sense of that). Many have re-invented themselves and are a delight to visit. The county courthouse seems to be these towns centerpieces and many interesting shops and restaurants are to be found plus a little history.

San Antonio KOA, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for the second time. Nothing important has changed except the "Chuck Wagon" has been rebuilt and there is an enclosed pavilion to eat in if you wish. They're set up for a movie night that I think is in the planning stages. The park is still very nice and the staff is excellent. The current owner is the son of the parks original owner, a real family business. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Hilltop RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

View rom the street suggests this is probably the best park in town. Spacing was a little tight, plenty of room for slides but your neighbors are close. The roadways are plenty wide to get around. Like most CG's in this part of TX it's gravel and is dusty. No cable but a few air channels are available. Internet was very slow. There are a few long term guests but this seems to be an over night stop for most. Empties out in the morning and starts filling about 1500. Beautiful views since it is on a hill top. The gent in the office was very friendly. 10% cash discount. The common question guests ask is, "you headed east or west?" We'd stay here again if passing thru. We camped at Hilltop RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dinner at K-Bob's was good, not great but good. We've eaten at a few K-Bob's around the state for 30+ years so it was a bit of a trip down memory lane for us. You will find the usual stack of fast food places but not many sit-down and table service. We enjoyed the meal and would come again.

Tucson / Lazydays KOA, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This park is huge. It's very clean and the pads are well spaced. The surprise was the fruit trees. There's one between most sites and they all had fruit to pick. Grapefruit, lemon and I heard orange (tho did not see orange trees). We picked a lemon to have with our salmon, now that's fresh and a very nice touch. There's a cantina that has a bar with adequate food (nothing special) and evening events. Our pad was gravel with a concrete patio and an asphalt strip for the TV. The cable and electric connections were a bit of a stretch but manageable. The CG is very nice but pricey (well, it's a KOA) and yes, I'd stay here again. We camped at Tucson / Lazydays KOA in a Fifth Wheel.
