The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

I'm unsure how this place receives such rave reviews other than it's convenient for overnight travels with full hookups. We secured a site ahead of time and, upon arrival, decided we did not want a gravel site but rather a pad. Moving to a pad site we found out the 50 amp didn't work and 30 amp was blowing with just one AC unit. Although the office initially tried to help, they eventually told us we just had to move. When I went up to the office to ask if we could move over a few sites they said, "we are booked". The head guy gave me two options for moving and then, while we were working on the coach, the one site was taken. My husband eventually got the 30 amp to work but only to run one unit but we could live with that. Many longtime contractors at this place; not much room to walk a dog, trash on the ground, the pool was dark and green; basically this place needs some love. There is a small dog park but people refuse to pickup after their pups when it's convenient to do so and that's not the fault of the park but the fault of the people. It fit our immediate needs to camp while traveling north but we will not be back. We camped at The RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads in a Motorhome.

Long Branch Rest and Ride RV and Horse Park, Live Oak, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

I sure did love this spot. It's not fancy so don't go in thinking you are at a resort. But if you love peace and quiet, large open spaces and beautiful sunrises this needs to be on your list. It's basically a horse retreat. People trailer their horses there and ride. They have fantastic facilities for the horses which appears to be the most important. There were no horses there when we visited but I can imagine how cool it must be to have horses all around. There are two sides to the campground, long-timers and then horse trailer folks. We stayed in the horse trailer side which have large pull-throughs. There is a large dog park facility but we didn't use it for ours, just walked around the grounds. We had a slight water issue but they jumped on it very quickly. The trees coming into the park are a little low for our class A so we had some top of the coach scratching but the trees are so lovely it's hard to place blame. This place isn't fancy but you can bet we'll be back for a night over or longer. We camped at Long Branch Rest and Ride RV and Horse Park in a Motorhome.

Palmetto Shores RV Resort (formerly Big Water Lake Club Campground), Summerton, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

First let me say that I knew there would be road noise. You can see I95 from your camper so it is what it is. The campsites themselves are average; sandy, fairly level but somewhat close together. Fortunately there were not many overnighters so we had space between ours and then next over. We did not use the facilities but we did go to the lake to run off some wiggles of our 14 month old golden retriever. It was a nice treat for him to be able to chase balls in the water. Not sure if that was officially allowed but it didn't say no dogs ;) I understand the restaurant is good but it was closed when we were here. Staff was efficient but not necessarily friendly. We would probably not stay here again unless the golden needs a swim. We camped at Palmetto Shores RV Resort (formerly Big Water Lake Club Campground) in a Motorhome.

Reed Bingham State Park, Adel, Georgia

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

What a pleasant surprise. We used this park as a night over but had we known how great it was we would have stayed another night. The sites are spacious, the area is vast, the trails are inviting, and the restrooms were clean and relatively new. Our level pull-through site was plenty long for our 45 ft motorhome plus tow. It had been upgraded with 50 amp, sewer, water and I think cable. It was about 7 mile off I-75 so convenient but not too much road noise; however, as is always the case, you can hear trucks in the am. It didn't impact our visit. There is a lake where folks fish, lot of open green space and nice walking trails. We never interacted with the staff since we had a reservation and knew our site so I can't comment on that aspect. I'm sitting in another campground further down the highway now which is tight and dusty. I'm thinking fondly of Reed Bingham State Park. We camped at Reed Bingham State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go into Adel for Fried Chicken at Empire. It's a hole in the wall but the service was wonderfully friendly. We went for breakfast which was good but drove back on our way out of town so my husband could get some fried chicken. Worth the time!

Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails, Trenton, Maine

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $128.00
Overall Rating:

We are waterfront with a nice vegetation break between us and the next site. The roads are dusty but that seems to be the norm these days. The site is a back-in, but we turned it around and pulled forward to capture the view. There is a large grassy field that they are working on fencing in for dogs. Our dog just wants to chase the ball so the lack of fence wasn't really an issue. There is traffic noise from Hwy 3 and the nearby airport and you don't really get used to it. The park is convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor. It's expensive and I doubt we would return but for our time here it fit our needs. We camped at Narrows Too Camping Resort - Thousand Trails in a Motorhome.

Ashaway RV Resort, Bradford, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

The park is huge and dusty with many, many seasonal residents. They were all very nice and had some nice setups. Getting our 43 footer to the site was very challenging as the roads and turns are tight. Our site was not level so our front end was way off the ground making it hard to make that first step. The pool was nice but super packed with kids so not very relaxing. There is a large athletic field where we could play ball with the dog as the dog park itself was quite small. This park supported our needs but I doubt we would return. We camped at Ashaway RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Apple Island Resort, South Hero, Vermont

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed along the front line overlooking the lake. RVs line up but there is a nice amount of space between them so it's comfortable. The view is lovely and I hope they don't over grow as it will kill that park. There are many seasonal but they are in another section and are all very tidy. The pool area, laundry and recreation building all very nice. We enjoyed our time there and truly enjoyed the area. We camped at Apple Island Resort in a Motorhome.

Sherling Lake Park, Greenville, Alabama

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We reserved here based on previous reviews. The gentleman meeting us in the office and leading us to the site was very nice. The sites are a bit close we are actually so close to our neighbor it's almost embarrassing, but for a one night stay it works. Some of the sites look like they would be difficult to level; lucky for us we got a pull through and were able to keep our tow in place. There is some road noise but it quiets down later in the evening. Traveling through this area we would use this place as a night over if needed. We camped at Sherling Lake Park in a Motorhome.

Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina, Abingdon, Maryland

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $64.00
Overall Rating:

Not a fan. Expensive for incredibly tight sites; washroom was a nightmare; never once saw the management. When we could not fit our 43 ft MC in the site assigned we just made the executive decision to pick another with fingers crossed. Asphalt pads were not level and rutted. The Full hookups all worked including the cable. Mostly just long term residents making this a trailer park. Will not return. We camped at Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in a Motorhome.

Delaware Seashore State Park, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here during the Thanksgiving holiday so the park was not very crowded. We stayed in the north park which seemed to be the newer of the two. We stayed on this side so that we could take our dogs to the beach. Apparently you can only do that on the north side. There was an easy access path to the beach and we utilized that daily. Sites were very easy to navigate with our 43 foot coach and hook ups were well placed. We had a water heating issue so we used the showers on site. The bath house appeared relatively new and the water was warm enough. I can imagine that this park gets crazy busy in the summer season. There is no shade and people come and go frequently to fish off the wall so traffic could probably be an issue. Overall we enjoyed our time there and would return but only during off season. We camped at Delaware Seashore State Park in a Motorhome.

Kiptopeke State Park, Cape Charles, Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

We were fortunate to camp here during off season. We had a reservation but were able to pick any site we wanted. All sites are back in and I can imagine during the high season it can be very crowded but for us, during the third week of November, it was perfect. The hiking trails and the beaches in the area were nice with our dogs. We had a water heating issue so we used the showers on site. They were dated but served the purpose with warm to hot water. The Camp Host came to visit and was incredibly nice chatting with my husband. The park itself is just tremendous and we will most certainly come back again during the off season. We camped at Kiptopeke State Park in a Motorhome.

Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground, Henderson, North Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

This is our fourth time camping at Kerr Lake; that last two times at Satterwhite Point, both times in November when the park is so quiet. We love this park. The entry into the camping spots can be a little narrow but manageable with our 43 foot motorcoach. Our loop lost power during out last visit and the park personnel were very quick to address it. We also had a water heating issue so we used the showers on site. They were certainly dated but clean and provided hot water and a warm room. The only negative is a visit to the local WalMart where a person parked near us removed one of our towing pins for no reason other than being a jerk. We had to drive 75 miles out of our way to replace the pin. No reflection on the park but left a bad taste in our mouth. We camped at Kerr Lake SRA - Satterwhite Point/J. C. Cooper Campground in a Motorhome.

Gulf Waters RV Resort, Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

We wanted to get away to sunny Florida for a few weeks but most decent campgrounds were full. We ended up booking here and had to pay the full month plus a day when we were only going to be staying for 19 days. The campground is nicely laid out, spots are adequate in size, some better than others, the utilities all worked fine, and the pool and spa were a nice addition. The "locals" in the campground were very friendly and honestly they were having a heck of a good time. Every day they were doing some kind of activity and then ending up at the onsite bar in the afternoon. We are not retired yet so it was interesting to witness. Overall the park was fine but we won't go back. We felt trapped in the park, trapped in the area, and trip provided nothing of the camping life that we enjoy. I will say the one negative of this park and many of this type are that no one wants you to walk on the grass. If you have dogs, which we have 2, it's basically a struggle to walk with any enjoyment when at every turn there is a "don't walk on the grass" sign. Give it a rest with that crap. We all pick up after our dogs and they are a part of most campers life so lighten up with that. We camped at Gulf Waters RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Flamingo Lake RV Resort, Jacksonville, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We called ahead to secure the "last spot available". When we arrived of course the site had been given to someone else. The folks at the front desk were able to get us into another site and we appreciate their efforts. That being said, this park is in no way an RV Resort. It's basically a park for long term residence and all of the things that go along with that. People hitting their dogs, folks driving around in their golf carts with music blaring; you get the picture. We used this location as a one night stop over and will not return. It served it's purpose but for almost $55.00 you would expect something a bit more. We camped at Flamingo Lake RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Staunton River State Park, Scottsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here over the Thanksgiving Holiday; the rest of our family stayed in the cabins. The park is beautiful and of course very quiet during this time. The campground was well maintained but I will state that it's not really set up for a big rig. We are in a 43 ft motorcoach so it would have been very difficult to maneuver if the camp had been crowded but we were able to get a spot that was relatively level and had clearance. Turns are tight but if you can make it work, it's worth the effort. My family loved the cabins, the views are wonderful, deer everywhere and so quiet. I don't think I'd try this during the summer months but we all agreed that we'd do Thanksgiving there again for sure. We camped at Staunton River State Park in a Motorhome.

We found a wonderful little restaurant in South Boston called Southern Plenty Café. The owner, a super nice lady, cooked all of the meals. We all had breakfast there the last day and would return there for lunch or dinner.
