Ross Creek RV Park, Medicine Hat, Alberta

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is a basic RV park convenient to the highway and Medicine Hat. We had a full hookup site but were not permitted to use the RV's washing machine. The wifi was good. We had decent signal strength on our US based Verizon phones. Direct TV satellite reception was great, no OTA stations came in. The on site camp host was pleasant and easy to work with. No fires were permitted due to a burn ban being in place. The train tracks are near by but the trains do not blow their whistles near the campground so this a non issue. I like that the picnic tables had wheels on them so they were easy to move. Sites are small. We have a 40 ft rig and just fit the spot, had to park the jeep on the road. We camped at Ross Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cottonwood Inn & Suites, Glasgow, Montana

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This is a small RV park attached to a hotel. Sites are adequate and if you just wanted to stop for the night several are pull through and long enough that you wouldn't have to unhook your towed vehicle. There was a nice patch of grass that our dog appreciated being able to lounge on after spending a month on the prairie. Hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub that you can use. There is also a restaurant with basic menu and salad bar. Verizon service had strong signal. Direct TV reception good. All major networks available OTA. Hotel Wifi is excellent. Trains run through town on a regular schedule. We love them but some might be annoyed by the sound. There is a sidewalk on rte 2 at the front of the hotel for walking. We camped at Cottonwood Inn & Suites in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This small Montana town boasts 3 coffee shops. We patronized the Loaded Toad on 2nd Ave S which the barista described as an oasis. We certainly enjoyed our Americano's and came away with a pound of Montana roast. We stayed in Glasgow to visit sites pertaining to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. The Fort Peck Dam and Interpretive Center is excellent. We enjoyed a stop at the Valley County Pioneer Museum too.

Fox Run RV Park, Williston, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Williston is an oil boom town and this park was built to accommodate the oil workers. It is at the top of the hill with great views over the city. Roads are dirt and large gravel that are good for driving but difficult to walk on. Staff was very accommodating checking on us daily to make sure we had what we needed. Sites are a decent size with no tables or fire rings. Really no place to sit outside except the gravel. The park does offer a lounge with comfortable seating for reading or watching TV. Clean bathrooms and showers, nice laundry. Our Verizon phones worked well. Direct TV had good reception. All major networks available OTA. Park Wifi was really good. There were a lot of annoying flies at this stop. It was difficult to keep them out of the rig. We think it was due to the overflowing trash dumpster even though it was quite a distance from our site. We camped at Fox Run RV Park in a Motorhome.

Colonial RV Park & Motel , Mandan, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This small park is located at the rear of a hotel away from the highway. It was easy to access and park. We found it to be convenient for visiting Mandan, Bismark and Washburn. Very basic but clean safe and comfortable. There are no picnic tables at individual sites but the hotel has a patio with umbrella shaded tables that you can use. Convenient to a bike path and a neighborhood with sidewalks for walking. Verizon phone service and Cell service had strong signals. Direct TV worked well. Park Wifi had a good signal for web browsing and checking email, Facebook etc. We camped at Colonial RV Park & Motel in a Motorhome.

Country Cabins and RV Park (formerly Kountry Kamping & Kabins), Mobridge, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a quiet park in a rural area outside of Mobridge. Nicely shaded sites with views of the Missouri River. No satellite reception due to tree cover, the owner offered us another site but we were only there for 2 nights and it wasn't worth moving. OTA stations limited to one local PBS. Camp Wifi was poor. Good signal for Verizon Phones and MiFi. Site was long and level. We camped at Country Cabins and RV Park (formerly Kountry Kamping & Kabins) in a Motorhome.

The Scheer Howe Event Center in Mobridge has murals painted by Lakota artist Oscar Howe in 1942 as a WPA project. Great Plains Family Restaurant has good breakfast.

Overall Rating:

The park is located in the residential part of the base convenient to the Patriot Gate, open 0600-1800 M-F. Express store within walking distance, Commissary and Exchange a short drive away. Good reception with rooftop satellite for Direct TV. Verizon phone worked reliably. Camp WiFi was decent except during the evening high use hours. Free laundry with newer machines was very clean. Staff and camp hosts were pleasant and easy to work with. We enjoyed the wildlife...deer and rabbits frequented the campground. We camped at Ellsworth AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Don't miss the Black Hills, Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Deadwood and Spearfish Canyon. Crazy Horse is impressive. Devil's Tower is worth the drive. The Badlands are amazing. Wind Cave was a favorite part of the trip. Stop at Gizzi's on Main Gate Rd for breakfast or lunch.

Al's Oasis Campground, Oacoma, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

The park is convenient to I-90 but along with that comes road noise. We were not bothered by it. I mention it because I have met others who are sensitive. Pull through spaces are quite level. We enjoyed some shade at the site. It looks like many trees have been recently planted. There is a small heated pool open late into the evening, clean showers and bathrooms and a laundry. Good Verizon signal. No OTA TV stations but the park supplies cable at no additional fee. Satellite signal for Direst TV was good. We camped at Al's Oasis Campground in a Motorhome.

It is part of the Native American Scenic Byway. The Oacoma Visitor Center on I-90 has a good Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and spectacular views. Akta Lakota Museum and Cultural Center about 15 minutes away. Al's Oasis is within walking distance. There are a restaurant, gift shop and grocery store all in one long building. The restaurant has good diner type food and a salad bar.

Sioux City North KOA, North Sioux City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in this KOA to visit Lewis and Clark sights in the Sioux City area. The park is just off I-29 so you will experience some road noise. It didn't bother us at all. We had no trouble sleeping with the windows open. Camp hosts were friendly and helpful. Staff takes good care of the facility checking each site as visitors check out to make sure that it is ready for the next person. There are trees in each site that interfered with our Direct TV signal but cable is provided for no additional fee. Decent Wifi for a campground, hard to connect on the weekends when the park was full. We had 3 bars of Verizon 4G service on phone and Jetpak. Picnic tables need some work, there are fire rings at each site. We camped at Sioux City North KOA in a Motorhome.

Pine Grove RV Park and Campground, Greenwood, Nebraska

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a nice park in rural Nebraska convenient to I-80 and bordered by farm fields on 2 sides. We expected some road noise but were pleased to find that it was not significant. Convenient to Omaha, Nebraska City and Lincoln. Park Wifi is good. We were given vouchers for 1 device a day. If you wanted more there is a reasonable pay by the day plan. The strenght was adequate for web browsing and checking emails, writing blog posts but we didn't use it for gaming or to stream music or videos. Good signal for our Verizon phones and Jetpack. Excellent satellite reception for Direct TV. All major networks available OTA. The office has a small bar and restaurant. There is a pool and playground here for those with little ones. The SAC Aerospace Museum is right down the road in Ashland. Ashland has a small downtown area with restaurants and stores. We enjoyed Cheri O's for breakfast and the Glacial Till Winery for afternoon snacks. If you go try the 2012 Chamborcin...you will be happy you did. Omaha has a vibrant downtown and Old Market Area. Nebraska City has Mahew Cabin and the Arbor Farm. We are here to visit sites along the Lewis and Clark Trail but have found much more to celebrate in this part of Nebraska.

Cahokia RV Parque, Cahokia, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for a week at Cahokia RV Parque in order to visit St Louis. It was a very convenient location. The owners and staff are very friendly making suggestions of things to see in the area. They offer a very reasonable drop off and pickup option if you don't want to drive into St Louis. Pool was nice and there is a barbecue restaurant on the premises that has decent food. The park was quiet during the week and filled up on the weekend. Pretty typical for the Summer months. There is some road noise and construction going on in the area. Mirror Lake Campground, New Florence, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This small campground is located in a rural and beautiful area. The small lake and a trout stream that runs through the property kept the fishermen busy. Our site was a level back in right next to the stream. There was even a small waterfall right in our shady backyard. The owners are pleasant, friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Customer service was great. Grounds are very well kept and public areas are clean. Bathrooms are very outdated and are on the list of these new owners plans for improvement. In addition to the fishing spots there are open fields perfect for a kickball game, a playground, horseshoe pits, and a community building and game room. The campground is gated. We camped at Mirror Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Ligonier is a small town about 10 miles away with lovely small shops and restaurants. We recommend Dave and Carols Roadhouse. Flight 93 Memorial NHS is about an hour away. Johnstown is about 40 minutes away and has the Johnstown Flood NHS, the Johnstown flood museum, and the worlds steepest incline plane railway. Fort Necessity National Historic Site is an hour away. Frank Lloyd Wright as 3 houses in the area including the iconic Falling Waters. Pittsburgh is 90 minutes away.
