Waterwheel RV Park, Chiloquin, Oregon

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We had hoped to get into a park north of Waterwheel but found it too late in the day to get there comfortably. Waterwheel was recommended to us. It is located just north of Klamath Falls on the Williamson River. Very tranquil setting for a park. Unfortunate that it is also quite close to a major highway running from Klamath Falls to Bend or Eugene. Traffic noise is an issue. There is also freight train noise throughout the night although there is no train horn blowing...just a rumble that is both heard and felt. The restrooms are new and are quite nice. We did not check the laundry facility but no reason to think it would be anything but nice. Like so many parks I have an issue with both the gravel roads and sites. Rather than a hard round stone/gravel Waterwheel has used a soft gray gravel that is easily crushed by the weight of the heavier RV's creating a powder that makes for big-time DUST. We drove in at a crawl but was not able to prevent the "cloud". It is impossible to drive slow enough to prevent the dust, and you certainly have no control over "neighbors" that are less considerate with their driving patterns. The sites were long enough to accommodate our coach and toad without disconnect and there was ample mature trees (in need of trimming) that provided shade. The sites was were nicely spaced allowing for ample room for slides plus between. There does not seem to be a full-time maintenance/grounds keeper and the park, to a degree, reflects it. The dust, the train and truck noise, along with the need for basic park maintenance/grooming makes Waterwheel nothing but average. I have been very generous in giving this park a rating of 5 stars out of 10...at most! Sorry, the older lady that checked us in was very sweet. We most likely would seek out another park next time we are in the general area. We camped at Waterwheel RV Park in a Motorhome.

New Frontier RV Park, Winnemucca, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Sitting here trying to think what I can say as a negative about this park. I can't think of one...unless it was a few patches of green grass needed on spots in the interior. This place is spotless, new asphalt roads and sites, nice hookups with sewer connect below site surface. If this isn't enough, the Winger Restaurant is directly behind the office and an easy walk for great food and "beverages". We had a wonderful meal there. The shade trees are not tall enough ...yet...to provide meaningful shade. If I could give this park a 12 I would. Quiet! No highway or road noise of any kind, and a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. Friendly staff! Will stay at New Frontier RV "resort" anytime we are within a hundred miles. We camped at New Frontier RV Park in a Motorhome.

Archview RV Resort & Campground, Moab, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Let me say first that while I AM NOT a 4 wheeler, I also have nothing against them or the people that ride them! That being said, Archview is a "cowboy park". That is not meant to be disrespectful. It is simply the truth. If you like dust and dirt this park could be for you. They call for a 5 mph speed limit that most don't obey. The bathrooms are old and in need of major overhaul. The water pressure in the bathrooms is a tenth of what a good shower calls for when forking out $70 per nite AFTER your discount, and the first nite ran out if hit after the first minute. When I told the staff about no hot water the response was, "I wouldn't know...just came on duty an hour ago!" To add insult to injury this park also owns the Chevron station near the park office. They post NO prices on their monument sign on #191. No wonder! Their unleaded gas was 50 cents a gallon more than unleaded in downtown Moab, just 9 miles away. So if ya don't mind dust and dirt, going home with grit in your nose/ears, outdated restrooms along with paying thru the nose for your "dirt spot"...then Archview just could be for you. We camped here in a motorhome and after feeling like we've been completely ripped off, will never stay at Archview again! We camped at Archview RV Resort & Campground in a Motorhome.

Sundance RV Park, Cortez, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Sundance has to be one of the better RV campgrounds we've stayed at on our most recent cross country trips. First, such a helpful and friendly staff, and it only gets better. The sites are shaded from the hot Colorado sun by large mature trees. The sites are quite wide. We could easily have parked our tow vehicle along side the motorhome and thrown in a large picnic table between the two of them. The road(s) thru the park are asphalt while the sites themselves are larger "clean" gravel stones. As each rig leaves staff members are there with rakes making sure each site is clean and the gravel level. There is plenty of thick beautiful green grass around this park that your pets will love as well as a dog play area. The bath/shower/laundry facilities are spotless and up to date w/4 washers and 5 dryers. This park does not have a pool but the city park is directly across the street with its own large water slide. While on the Main Street in Cortez we had little if any noise! We camped at Sundance in a motorhome w/toad. We are already planning a return trip next you to again visit Mesa Verde Nat'l and would not stay anyplace other than Sundance. We camped at Sundance RV Park in a Motorhome.

Santa Rosa Campground & RV Park, Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Wow! What a pleasant surprise Santa Rosa Campground has turned out to be. I know...I know...no sewer hookups! I get that. But cell phone service is good, the bathroom/showers, while older, are very clean as well as convenient. The host was very friendly and professional. Even with all the rain they have had this week in this area the park was void of mud and I will leave tomorrow with my rig looking as clean as when I turned off the highway. They also have a very good restaurant connected to the office/gift shop w/indoor AND outdoor seating. BBQ brisket was outstanding as was the catfish. Based on convenience, cleanliness, big rig friendly, along with friendly staff I rate Santa Rosa Campground a solid 8-9. We camped here in a motorhome w/toad that was plenty long enough. Yes, we would be sure to stay here any/every time we are in the area. We camped at Santa Rosa Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

High Point RV Park, Enid, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This park is geared to the longer term campers with a few spots up front for easier entry/exit from the park and near bathrooms/showers. Minimal grass area and dry/dusty. Bathrooms/showers were adequate but locked during the night without code access. I don't know why parks do that!! We would consider staying here again next time thru Enid but just for an over nite. Park rates no more than 4 of 10 stars. We camped at High Point in a motorhome w/toad. We camped at High Point RV Park in a Motorhome.

Magnolia RV Park Resort, Vicksburg, Mississippi

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Close to I-20 but without the noise. Quiet park with campers parked close together but enough room to put out slides. Looks like the owner does most of the work/maintenance and there doesn't seem to be enough time for all the chores ...like mowing the grass/weeds throughout the sites. There is a lawn area and a dog park. All hookup were adequate. I consider Magnolia to be a one night stopover on your way thru Vicksburg. We camped here in our motorhome W/toad. 50/50 whether we stay next time or try another park. We camped at Magnolia RV Park Resort in a Motorhome.

Whistle Stop RV Resort, Abilene, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

One day this "resort" WILL be just that. Today, after much rain, this place is like a cattle feed lot...nothing but pretty "islands of sandstone gravel" connected together by gravel roads. Step off the gravel ANYPLACE and you're in 8" of "muk". Caution! Do ALL your connections BEFORE you put your slides out cause you're left with no place to walk once they are out. And the poor dogs...no place for them to relieve themselves but onto the gravel. The dog park? Half flooded and other half MUD! One day this WILL BE a wonderful park. After one night on a gravel island we are moving on and feeling overcharged by about $35. Oh, and while the bathrooms are spectacular, Whistle Stop could increase the water temp by about 10 degrees...unless you REALLY like lukewarm showers! We camped in a large motorhome w/toad. Would consider staying here again...in 5 years!!! We camped at Whistle Stop RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Golden Pond RV Park, Shirley, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This is a hard review to write. The young couple that own this park...and their three girls, are such nice people. And they have received very HIGH reviews for sure. I'll be honest. I don't know where these "lofty" reviews came from! Frankly, It appears the owners have bit off a bit more than they can chew. First, the restrooms are in need of a complete makeover...and they were not up to what I call an acceptable standard. They were in need of a complete scrubbing and walls and floor are in need of a complete paint job. There is no insulation in the ceiling of the restrooms and from children playing to dog running it is quite noisy. The RV sites are in need of cleanup as is the interior road around the pull thru section. The sites just are not groomed and the site base, along with the road, is made up of stone of all size and shapes making it difficult to walk in daylite hours, not to mention problems walking at nite. Sorry, but this "away from the lake" Park is not worth more than a four until major work is done on bath house, sites and interior roads! We camped at Gokden Pond in a motorhome w/toad. We would not camp here again! We camped at Golden Pond RV Park in a Motorhome.

Garden City RV Park, Garden City, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I guess the best description is "a no frills RV park". It is a concrete pad off the highway that you can plug into electrical, water, and connect to sewer...for $30. Our pad was near new and near straight. It was long enough for our 37' with toad that did not require disconnect. Was told there were showers in the truck-travel plaza that we did not use. It worked well for us as all we wanted was a quiet place to rest our heads. We got what we asked for. There us no shade and what they now are weeds. Jack rabbits run crazy at night and fun to watch. We wouldn't hesitate to stop here again for a place to get off the road and ease of entrance/exit fir large rugs...without any frills! We camped at Garden City RV Park in a Motorhome.

Burns RV Park, Burns, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Very well kept and CLEAN RV park and friendly helpful staff. The roads and sites were CLEAN gravel so no dust. So why the lower rating? Road noise in the morning as it is located next to the highway for one thing. But the biggest factor was the bathroom. Can't speak for the women's but the men's is a "shoe box." One toilet so tight you can't pull your trousers up without twisting and turning to keep from hitting your head against the door. Then there is the fact of only two showers. Prepare to wait. Better yet...shower in the evening. New owners for 2016. Hoping their attention goes toward a new and larger bathroom facility. With that the rating is a 9. Yes...would stay here again when passing thru Burns. We camped at Burns RV Park in a Motorhome.

Elk Mountain RV Resort, Stanley, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Took a "chance" with this park on account of latest review being in 2014? First off the senior owner is very nice as is all of the relations that work at the camp...and there many of them. Unfortunately ALL of their attention seems directed to the campgrounds "cafe" that services breakfasts thru dinner all but Monday's. While we found the food good, it was also very much overpriced. The campground itself was in need of major attention. The "terrace" level with a beautiful view of the mountains was dry and dusty, no shade not grass, and resembled more of a maintenance staging area than a campground. Most of the trailers there appeared to be long-term. I wouldn't store my motorhome there. It is nothing but a maintenance staging area, dry and dusty, with a number of what looked to be full-timers. As for the lower shaded area around the "cafe" a large number of the sites appear longer term possibly workers in the cafe. most of the sites appear to be longer stay campers. Dogs were not kept on leashes and allow to use the entire park as their private bathroom area and nobody seemed to care. Weeds around our hookups were over a foot tall and I pulled many just to get to the water connection. It was like nobody gave any attention, or cared, about what went on outside the "cafe". As for bathrooms/showers they were not what I would label dirty but far from up to my level of cleanliness. Both the individual toilet and shower "bays" we're very "tight"! I believe we stayed in site #12, in a motorhome, and no, we would not stay at this park next time in the Stanley area. This park deserves no more than a 4 rating. We camped at Elk Mountain RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pony Express RV Resort, North Salt Lake, Utah

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

As with all my park reviews I'll start with the good. The large pool and area around, the lounge and game room, lobby, and laundry room rate a 12 out of a possible 10...as nice as you'll find anywhere! The grounds are keep clean of trash and if there are longer term renters they are hard to point out. The pads are large for our pull-through, with adequate space between slides, picnic tables, and very nice grass areas throughout the park. The major drawback for this park is the bathrooms. The bath/shower combos nearest our site was in need of minor updating. The painted concrete floors were in need of a re-coat, some baseboard tiles were needed a re-grout. More important...NO AC. Further, using old heat generating flood lamps. A sauna at anytime other than early morning. Walking out into the 95 degree Salt Lake day feels like stepping into a pop cooler! Also...with military/Good Sam discount our nightly fee was $50. With cooler and cleaner (repairs) bath this park rates a 9. Today I can give it only an 8. Baywood Campground, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at Baywood Campground in June. Thought I had made reservations but when we got there said that I had not. The good news is that they were able to find us a pull-thru site long enough for our 37' w/toad. The office and restrooms are old and in need of much TLC. The bathrooms were clean enough...just very old. The park is both tight and crowded, mostly w/trailers. Be sure to read the directions CAREFULLY before arriving. The sign at entry is small and road more of an ally than a street driving in alongside a drug store. The pool was not used so all I can say is that it looked "adequate". While many blocks from the beach, we were glad we were able to find a space because the selection in Gulf Port is very limited. In that it was warm with AC running we were, not bothered by nearby traffic noise. Our pad was level and newer asphalt but neighbors close and landscape very dry. We will, however, look for another campground near but outside Gulf Port on our next trip to the Gulf. We would rate this park, at best, a 5 We camped at Baywood Campground in a Motorhome.

Sleepy Hollow RV Park, Wall, South Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The good news is that it is certainly close to Wall Drug and the downtown of Wall, SD. Sorry, I'm just not thrilled with dust, dirt, and close to neighbors, and they could care less if I have good signal or not. I gave the park a rating of 3 based on fairly clean restroom and shower.

We pulled in 15 minutes earlier than we had planned, and were told it was going to cost extra for being early. Like our reserved site was occupied? Wrong: just the campground policy. So my wife and I drove around Wall for 15 minutes rather than laying the extra charges. I guess that is what is called "customer service" in S. Dakota.

Don't know if there is a less dry, dusty place to stay when traveling thru Wall, but you can bet I'm going to try and find it!! We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park in a Motorhome.
