San Antonio KOA, San Antonio, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was clean and well maintained and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The campground roads were paved and sufficient for easy maneuvering with a 5th wheel and is gated for security. The Wi-Fi access was fast and always available. The campground is on the San Antonio bus route which is easy to use and is available about every 30 minutes. We were given easy to understand instructions at registration about the bus schedule. There is also a public walking/biking trail that runs right along the KOA property which we really enjoyed. We camped at San Antonio KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Whispering Oaks RV Park (Formerly Columbus KOA), Weimar, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

The campground was clean and well maintained. The roads are paved with gravel sites. I gave this campground a 5 rating because of the frequent train traffic. The train tracks are about 150 yards from the campground boundaries and the trains come through about every 2 hours night and day. The free WiFi initially was good but after 24 hours, we were prompted to sign in again and the "free access" button was gone, with no Wi-Fi password provided by the office. So basically the free Wi-Fi is only for the first day of your stay. Easy on, easy off, except the entrance to I-10 W was extremely short with a 90 degree turn. We felt it was too tight for a 40 ft RV so we drove 7 miles to Weimer TX and got on I-10 there. We camped at Whispering Oaks RV Park (Formerly Columbus KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

Jamaica Beach RV Park, Galveston, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

The park was clean and in great condition. The roads are concrete but a bit narrow although the turns had sufficient room for our 40 ft fifth wheel. The sites are long, concrete, level and provide sufficient room to park your RV and vehicle. The beach access is about a quarter of a mile walk. The reason for the 8 rating was due to our being unable to connect to the park Wi-Fi. We camped at Jamaica Beach RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oak Leaf Park Campground, Orange, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2014 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Easy access from highway. Open pull through sites. Appears to be an older campground with no WiFi or cable. We were able to get local channels off the antenna. Showers and laundry available but we didn't use them. A little road noise but not loud enough to be bothersome. We camped at Oak Leaf Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Vinton RV Park, Vinton, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Easy in and out from I-10. Open sites, some with concrete pads. Friendly staff and owners appear to live on-site. Reason for lower rating was a problem with high spikes in electric which caused our EMS system to shut off power to rig. We ended up leaving early and owners did provide refund for unused days. We camped at Vinton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Pontchartrain Landing, New Orleans, Louisiana

Date of Stay: January, 2014 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Overall a nice campground. Sections are still being developed. Roads were wide and easy to navigate. Some loud music from the bar area, but it usually stopped by 10 o'clock. We used the campground shuttle to the French Quarter, which cost $6/person. Staff was friendly and park was clean and well-maintained. We camped at Pontchartrain Landing in a Fifth Wheel.
