Manzano's RV Park, Silver City, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful family park in the forest area of rural Silver City. Camp is clean, quiet, friendly with a home style rec room available with books and DVDs. Owner lives next door up the hill. Silver City is a fun artsy, funky college town with cute shops and good restaurants (Shevek's). Good size sites on dirt roads but well spaced and private. Camp does not accept plastic so plan to pay with cash or check. Wi-Fi works. Very homey. We will be back. We camped at Manzano's RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Rusty's RV Ranch, Rodeo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Surprising gem of a campground in the middle of "no where" and taking full advantage of it. Owners are super friendly and even have a supper party once a week for guests to visit. Nice Laundry on premises. WiFi works. Great stop to camp for birding in the Chiricahua mountains -- wonderful. Desert environment and dark night skies make for a great visit. There is even an above ground swimming pool for summer visitors. We will be back! We camped at Rusty's RV Ranch in a Travel Trailer.

Kartchner Caverns State Park, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice well maintained camp. The caverns are well worth the visit with very interesting rangers. Since these are "wet" caves they are justifiably careful with the environment inside. The campground itself has dirt roads, good size sites, a few mesquite trees and tables but not fire pits. This is another good Arizona State Park which is well managed and maintained. The reservation website is user friendly. We were pleased to find a number of open sites for February/March when we reserved in December. The birding from this camp was only so so at least in late February. We camped at Kartchner Caverns State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Patagonia Lake State Park, Patagonia, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Grand birding park what with riparian and lake and high country areas. Beautiful lake with some sites that can only be reached by boat. Well maintained with paved sites (some hills) so check web site for views and information. Web site is user friendly. Surprise is that southern Arizona is a winery area with a number of nice ones in or near Sonorita. Will definitely be back again to this park. We camped at Patagonia Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Scottsdale, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2014 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

Really a lovely park with views of the desert landscape. Because of a fire in 1995, there is limited cactus etc which is good when camping with dogs. Well maintained and clean. The information booth and shop was great with very friendly helpful people and good resources. Camp was quiet. Convenient to Scottsdale. Large camp sites. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.
