Oasis RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We have been here several times the last many years since they opened the place. It is ez on and off the interstate, big. wide open and ez to maneuver. This time we stayed near the front bathroom and observed people just coming in off the interstate and taking over 3 of the showers. Once they got cleaned up they left. We noticed and reported the same even several months ago when we were here, but they don't seem to care. If they would just put a cipher lock on the bathrooms that might keep th0se folks our. This park is wide open and has no security or on staff camp host after the office closes, I think 7 pm. As a former State Park Ranger and police officer, I would be concerned. Just be aware. Otherwise a great park. There was also a lot of dog poop on the dog walk areas that people nor staff did not pick up Otherwise a nice park. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Amarillo Ranch RV Park, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park with many trailer home and older RVs here permanently. It is gravel/mud and my site was about a 12 inch incline from the street nearly tearing off my leveling jacks . The grass is not treated but could not get under my coach for the mud. My 2 dogs were covered in seeds and stickers. The sites are close and the entire park is poorly maintained. It is adjacent to a water park so lots of kids and noise. Far too many kids to use the pools. We camped at Amarillo Ranch RV Park in a Motorhome.

WinStar RV Park, Thackerville, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: April, 2014 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We have stayed here a dozen times since this campground opened. In 2010, I rated it as a 9. Today, I am shocked at the park and probably will never camp here again, unless I see good reviews. Let me give a list. First the rates have nearly doubled. Second, the casino no longer gives any camping promotion or benefit to stay here. Third, there was dog poop, a lot of it around the park. Fourth, the landscaping people were the most obnoxious I have ever seen. They edged our campsite with us in it, and one guy came by and blew grass all over me as I sat at the picnic table, I tried to complain, but he spoke no English. Fifth, both our small dogs got stickers this time. Sixth, this is an open park and they have security in the daytime, but none at night, never saw a one in 4 days.Seventh, the wifi sometimes does not work at all, and sometimes just very, very slow. Just a really sad deal, this was such a great place to stay and has really gone downhill. We camped at WinStar RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lake Elmer Thomas Rec Area (LETRA) (Military FamCamp), Lawton, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: March, 2014 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

There are too many permanent campers here and they get all the better sites along the edges of the park. Dogs run loose commonly and dog poop is left along the edges of the park. This is an all gravel park but sites are pretty level. This park is 8 miles from the nearest gate and at nights and weekends it is about 1 miles to get off base. This is a military base and guns must be registered in advance, only M-F, so don't bring any weapons with you. There are better camping sites in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge about 10 miles west and rates are better. If you reserve a site they will often change your site without your approval, so don't expect to get the one you reserve. It happened twice to us. Be aware this is an artillery training base and if you are offended by the sound of freedom (artillery going off sometimes all night) then this is probably not for you. Don't mean to sound negative, but this is not a KOA or newer type campground. One the positive, the lake is clear and pristine looking and small boats and kayaks can be rented in the summer. We camped at Lake Elmer Thomas Rec Area (LETRA) (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Robbers Cave State Park, Wilburton, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: October, 2013 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 5 nights. Nice small lake and good hiking trails. We found the park quiet at night and staff came by frequently. Staff are state employees, Park Rangers, and maintenance. Office manager was a bit rude and gave our site away. It is a first come/ no reservation policy. We set up in the slot, but she gave it to a local person and made us move, contrary to the policy, but all other staff were great. Park was clean and well maintained. We would camp here again. We camped at Robbers Cave State Park in a Motorhome.
