Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground, Petersburg, Illinois

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Very clean showers although dated. Very level sites with good electric. Some in our group had difficulty with the 30 amp. Needed to use 50 with a 30 adapter.

Quiet and restful. Nice shelter for meetings/meals. Decent dump station.

New Salem Village was very interesting although there was only one busy volunteer who gave a good background on the village. Paved drives that made a nice thing for walkers. We camped at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site-Campground in a Motorhome.

Ouabache Trails Park Campground, Vincennes, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A little hard to find, not really marked well, but, worth the search!! Level, heavily graveled sites with 50amp and water. Exceptionally clean rest rooms. Friendly, helpful attendants. Quiet with some shade. WIFI worked only fair (but, it was free, so...). Sitting in a very historical area and near Vincennes University. We loved it, we plan on going back for a longer stay. For $20 a night, you can't beat it. (I gave it a 9 only because we had a difficult finding it..even our MapQuest was confused!!) We camped at Ouabache Trails Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sits right up the road from Fort Knox 11. The site that sent the troops to The Battle of Tippecanoe in Lafayette. So much history in the area. Lewis and Clark Memorial, old Cathedral...I could go on and on.

Indiana Beach Campground , Monticello, Indiana

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Filthy bathrooms!! We actually took pictures to the office to make our point. The one nearest our location was closed, but did reopen the next day. We were hosting a rally and when our guests tried to make reservations, it took many attempts to get anyone to answer the phone. Several ended up calling New York (main office) to make reservations. Only one trolley was running and it would take patrons to the south end of the beach to a swinging bridge, not the amusement park itself. Several in our group were handicapped and unable to use the swinging bring, so did not go to the amusement park. They had shut down the closer road to the trolley due to the poor conditions of the roads in the amusement park. Several of the workers did their best to help, but their hands are tied. The new owners have certainly let the campground deteriorate into a very sad state. We had been their a few years before and were very happy.....no one is our group will ever go back. There is no refund given...for any reason. They only give camping credit for another time. Think hard before you commit to this Campground!! We camped at Indiana Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Hi-Tide Beach & Campground, Leland, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Beware if you are on a budget. The campsite fee is only the beginning. They do charge extra for A/C or heater (which I understand), but they also charge for showers! The sites were not gravel, but, muddy grass. No Internet and no refund for any reason. Our friend's coach blew an engine and he was unable to camp with us. He went to the campground and there was No refund at all. He didn't mind paying the first day, but they charged him full price for 2 days!! Grass was high...just not a good experience at all. If you are looking to seasonal stay, It may be fine, but, if you are passing through...forget it!! Very sad, the owners seemed nice, but too many negatives for us, we won't be back. We camped at Hi-Tide Beach & Campground in a Motorhome.
