Cypress Landing, Dozier, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Came to this park as part of the evacuation of Florida for hurricane Irma. Manager, and his staff, could not have been kinder or more generous. The manager was doing everything he could to find a spot for evacuees to get them off the road. I was met by camp workers at 12:30 am (after a 13 hour drive) to get me backed in and settled. Over the weekend, there was free food available for everyone at the unfinished (at that time) pavilion. Roads and sites are gravel and dirt. Water pressure is over 100 lbs, so be sure to use a pressure regulator. Motor gasoline, as well as, non-ethanol gasoline is available for campers and the general public. Main office has a small store with the usual supplies. Verizon voice and data excellent. ATT is non-existent. I am told you can get ATT service at the boat dock. We look forward to returning here for a much more leisurely stay. We camped at Cypress Landing in a Motorhome.

Orlando / Kissimmee KOA, Kissimmee, Florida

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here while on a business trip to the area. The more expensive sites are asphalt and out in the direct sun. There are some back-in spots on the south side of the park that are gravel and have shade and patio slabs. Our site, 117, was triangle shaped, so I was able to cock the trailer so that we weren't staring at the back of the neighbor's MH. Site is exceptionally level and the FHU connections (including TV and WiFi) were within easy reach. Not a comfortable site for late July with the temperatures in the mid 90' and heat index of 105F. (The asphalt does not cool well without a rain shower). Make sure your A/C is working. Check in was easy and all the "yellow shirts" were friendly and very helpful. The provided WiFi worked well. Verizon data and phone worked fine. ATT data was good but phone was marginal to good (unusual). Shower's are separate from the rest rooms and both are located at the south end of the park in the admin building. Overall, a good HOT stay. (smiley face). We camped at Orlando / Kissimmee KOA in a Tent Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You are within walking distance of the Sam's Club, Wendy's and Applebee's. US 192 is very busy, especially during the morning and evening rush hour's, so plan your day accordingly. About 20 minutes to The Mouse and the I-Drive area. This area can be a fun area if you prepare ahead and practice common sense safety.

Twin Oaks RV Park & Campground, Elko, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here on our return to home from Alabama. We couldn't have been treated better. FHU site with WiFi worked flawlessly. The bath house was as clean as they could keep it. They are updating the other bath house. It will be good to see the improvements on our next stop. Showers are tiled floor and walls. The rest is tiled floors and up the wall a couple of courses. Verizon and ATT voice and data worked well. Supplied WiFi worked fine. Although close to I-75, traffic noise was minimal. Nice TV room/lounge with coded access. Washer and dryers are $2 each. We camped at Twin Oaks RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Monte Sano State Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

Used this campground as a base of operations while visiting my daughter and granddaughter for two weeks. We ate a lot of hot dogs and schmors. Site 30 was a nice pull through FHU site. Site was level and right on the corner, so it was fun watching the world go by. Verizon work fine, both data and voice. ATT data okay, but phone required you to be outside the trailer for long conversations. The office staff could not have been nicer and more accommodating. We camped at Monte Sano State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are more than 40 foot combined length, DO NOT USE the Bankhead Parkway access. Bankhead Parkway has two mean switch backs that will be a challenge for a long vehicle combo. Use Governor's Drive to Monte Sano Blvd to access the campground. If you need supplies, the Star Market at the foot of Bankhead Parkway is a really nice place to go.

U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park, Huntsville, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This is our 5th stay at this park. It's getting a bit worn and in need of a little TLC. For the price, you can't beat it. Bathhouse is clean but the partitions are beginning to show some real need of attention. FHU site with provided WiFi worked fine. Verizon and ATT, both voice and data are excellent. The USSRC security patrols at night for that added feeling of security. We camped at U.S. Space & Rocket Center RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overnight stop heading to our next stop. FHU with WiFi and cable TV, all worked fine. Over-the-air HDTV was excellent also. Verizon and ATT, both voice and data, excellent. Some traffic noise during the day, but did not bother us at night. Overall, a good place to stop for the night and get a good rest. We camped at Bowling Green KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Brown County KOA (formerly The Last Resort RV Park) , Nashville, Indiana

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here while visiting relatives in the area. FHU site with cable TV and WiFi. Site was less than level. CG owner worked with me to get the TT as level as possible, even provided concrete blocks to back up my wheel chocks. Bring your long water hose and your electrical extension cords. Some sites are back to back. Heavy rain washed out part of entry road which he repaired immediately. We camped at Brown County KOA (formerly The Last Resort RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

Overnight stop heading to Indiana. Very nice little park to pull off the road and relax. Temperature today (9/7) was HOT, so we had to run A/C. No shade in center of campground. FHU site worked as they should. Lots of local HD over the air TV channels. Verizon and ATT, both voice and data are excellent. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Indian Creek RV & Camping Resort, Geneva, Ohio

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $58.00

Only an over night stop. Their season runs until Sept 10. This is primarily a seasonal camper resort, but of a higher quality than we've seen this season. FHU site with cable TV, free WiFi, a patio slab and picnic table. All worked as they should. Verizon and ATT, both voice and data were excellent. Bathrooms are immaculate. Tile floors and some tile up the walls. This facility even has a gas station. Ate a nice meal at the site cafe. We camped at Indian Creek RV & Camping Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Niagara Falls KOA, Grand Island, New York

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

Our FHU site was in the back, 3 rows from the interstate. The noise wasn't bad. We've been in noisier places. Water, sewer and electric worked fine. Campground WiFi worked well but the cable TV was a bit snowy at this site. There are plenty of HD over the air TV channels that you can pick up. Verizon and ATT, both voice and data were excellent. Office staff was excellent. We spent our time on tours or at the outlying attractions, so we did not use any of the facilities here, so I cannot comment on them. We camped at Niagara Falls KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you are here for the falls, do the Maid of the Mist early and do it first for the day. Bring a good pair of sandals for the Cave of the Winds tour (actually, it's a board walk tour). Old Fort Niagara is a good place to spend the afternoon. In May, the Fort is set up for the 1750's French and Indian War and in September, they set up for The War of 1812. The Canadian side has the falls illuminated at night and fire works promptly at 10 pm.

Canandaigua / Rochester KOA, Farmington, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Really enjoyed our stay here. All services serving the FHU site worked as they should. We were on the street side of the park with the back to back type of power pedestal. Bring your extension cords and hoses. Some traffic noise, but not constant. WiFi was good, although it would really slow down during mornings and evenings. ATT and Verizon voice and data were very good. You could make calls from inside the TT rather than have to go outside. Staff support was excellent. The seasonable sites are well maintained. There is a lot to do on the weekends for both adults and kids. The Kafe is open Friday supper to Sunday breakfast. Meals are fresh cooked after you order. The 4 washers and dryers are $1.50 each. We were told that the owner has made a lot of improvements to the campground and it shows. We camped at Canandaigua / Rochester KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Adventure Bound Camping Resort at Deer Run, Schaghticoke, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Let's set the record straight. This is a large seasonal trailer park with transient RV spaces available. If you are looking for a place to come and park and let the kids (or grandkids) run freely with limited to no supervision, then this is your place. If you are traveling through, this is a good over night stopover, although a bit off the beaten path. Site was FHU with cable TV available. There are plenty of over the air TV stations. I don't know if the Tengointernet was fee based. No coupon was offered at check in. ATT and Verizon data and voice were adequate, although, both data channels would slow to a crawl at the same time in the morning and late in the afternoon. No escort to site. Our site was obviously for transients because it was on the vent side of the laundry room and littered with cigarette butts. We did get all of our laundry done before we left. The bath house was one street over, which we did not use. Garbage is picked up twice a day, which is nice. You don't have to find and then walk to the dumpster. (Be aware: they do not give cash refunds, only a certificate good for any Adventure Bound CG.) Overall, it's a good campground to use as you pass thru the area. We camped at Adventure Bound Camping Resort at Deer Run in a Travel Trailer.

Melville Pond Campground, Portsmouth, Rhode Island

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little gem on the North End of the Newport peninsula. Our site is water and electric only, nicely level and next to a bathhouse. There are FHU sites, just none available during our stay. Power is steady and water pressure good. They have a couple of grey water dump spots throughout the campground so handling your grey water doesn't involve a hike to the sewer dump by the office. ATT and Verizon voice and data are adequate. Campground WiFi works okay. Park was quiet during the week, but gets noisy on the weekends. We camped at Melville Pond Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The #60 bus runs between Newport and Providence. It is on a 30 minute schedule, but since it splits East Main with West Main, service near the campground is hourly. Plentiful of PAID parking in Newport. Try the Cliff Walk. Had a good meal at the Brick Yard Pub on Thames Street. This is a boater's paradise.

Cape Ann Camp Site, Gloucester, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Overall, we like our stay here at Cape Ann. This CG works best for tent and pop up trailer campers. Short travel trailers (like ours) fit well. Short Class C's seem to be able to maneuver okay. The BIG RIGs have problems. Interior roads are tight as is the road to the campground entrance. (I felt like I was driving on someone's drive way, at first. But the yellow line in the middle of the road was a give away.) The owners are upgrading sites to FHU because that is the demand now. We were up towards the top. Campsite was surprising level. All services worked correctly. ATT and Verizon voice and data were acceptable but you still needed to step outside to keep a good solid signal during phone calls. The restrooms were kept very clean. 25 cents gets you 5 minutes of shower time. You have to walk your garbage down to the overflowing dumpster by the office. The staff was excellent. We camped at Cape Ann Camp Site in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Gloucester is packed this time of year (August). Parking is almost impossible. We took the whale trip and enjoyed the whales, not the trip out nor back. You'll like to tour the town of Essex, especially the Shipbuilding Museum. Periwinkles is a great restaurant. Woodman's Restaurant is a classic. Head out to Rockport early so you can find a place to park. Beach parking is free after 5 pm.
