Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort, Hill City, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

Spacious park with many personalities as there are several areas to camp. Meadow areas, wooded areas, and all are separated by a good distance. Overall it has a wonderful ambience to it and after 5 days there and viewing some others in the area I believe it is the best even given the higher price. You can't beat the location either, as it is nearly at the entrance road to Mt. Rushmore, the Needles Highway and less than 10 miles from Crazyhorse monument. You may request a site but they don't publish their map so if you haven't been there it is difficult to choose. Also one reason I can't give it a 10 is the variability of the sites. Everything else is so nice, I would think they could improve the site pads themselves. We were first assigned a short "supposedy pull thru" site that was a 90 degree turn in, with a 90 degree turn out onto overgrown grass and a camper directly in front of us. We did not pull in due to this. And as the camp was only about half full we asked to have another site. They readily accomodated us, but during high season I am pretty sure that would be difficult. Another reason is the lack of WiFi except up at the office. We were camped at Base Camp, which is the only area that has hook ups for limited satellite cable. We had an open area to the south and had good reception with our Tailgater. There is a nice looking pool and hot tub but neither were up and running when we arrived. Apparently the big season begins Memorial Day. We camped at Rafter J Bar Ranch Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

So many things to see and do in the area. The Needles highway, hike around Sylvan lake, the Custer Sate Wildlife loop and Iron Mountan Road should be added to your sightseeing. If you are a biker the Mickelson bike trail goes right by Rafter J and is 109 miles long.

Sky City RV Park, Acoma, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Clean and convenient RV park with all pull thrus along I40 west of Albuquerque. Park is situated in back of the Casino far enough that road noise was tolerable. There are nice views of the mesas as well. This is an exellent deal with the regular price at $22 per night. Beautiful clean and spacious showers and bathrooms. There is a shuttle via Casino security from RV to Casino. We used the shuttle to eat at the casino restaurant, good food and decent prices. RV guests may use the hotel pool and hot tub which were also quite nice. Truck stop adjacent for gas and diesel and a McDonalds there as well. Only downside is the WiFi was weak but Verizon service was good. We would definitely stay again if in the area. We camped at Sky City RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sleepy Hollow RV Park, Wall, South Dakota

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Basic campground for a onenight stay, good location to visit the Badlands and take a walk thru Wall Drug. Long pullthru but graveled drive was not level. Wall is the western entrance for the Badlands loop road, a must do. Touring the Badlands west to east seemed to offer great views as most of the viewpoints were on the right. You can walk from the campground to Wall Drug. We camped at Sleepy Hollow RV Park in a Motorhome.

Terry Bison Ranch Resort, Cheyenne, Wyoming

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

One overnight here in a pullthru site, with full hook ups. Luckily we were in the row farthest from the freeway so highway sound was minimal. There was a distinct animal smell so we were unable to keep our windows open. Front window view was nice out to some of the tent sites (not occupied) and pasture. The value was reasonable using Passport America. However I would consider it overpriced otherwise. We ate at the Senators restaurant onsite, and I am sad to say I cannot recommend it. We camped at Terry Bison Ranch Resort in a Motorhome.

Raton Pass Camp and Cafe (Formerly Cedar Rail), Raton, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We camped for one night in a pull thru site, somewhat short for us and the TOAD at 55 ft. Water and Electric worked fine(didn't connect sewer) and wepulled in over 30 OTA channels despite horrible wether including high winds, thunder lightening and rain. My husband checked out the restrooms and said they were modern and very clean. Laundry was nice and reasonable at $1.25 wash and $1.00 dry. The view was awesome. One word of caution if coming from the north the exit number sign is right on top of the exit and is the same as the weigh station. So if you see the sign for the weigh station that is your exit. Construction in the area and the uphill road make the exit and the on ramp after your stay somewhat confusing. We camped at Raton Pass Camp and Cafe (Formerly Cedar Rail) in a Motorhome.

Sunny Acres RV Park (55+ park), Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We had a pull thru site in back section. We were meeting up with friends who were already at the park for the previous 3 days. There was a pull thru right across from them that our friend had requested for us but was told we couldn't have it.Then when we arrived we were told it was reserved. Late that night the site was occupied and the RV was gone very early the next day. We just didn't understand why we could not have the site near our friends. There was a bit of train noise not bothersome to us. Others complained of dumpster/industrial noise but on a Saturday morning all was quiet. We camped at Sunny Acres RV Park (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

San Pedro Resort Community (55+ park), Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Good value for an overnight stay with Passport America discount. We had a clean gravel pull-thru. Park was quiet, a few miles off of I-10. We arrived after 3 with office closed and camp host lead us to our site. He did not have a cable box for us and antenna gave us 7-8 channels all in Spanish. We camped at San Pedro Resort Community (55+ park) in a Motorhome.

Spokane RV Resort, Deer Park, Washington

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is the gold standard of RV parks. Large level sites with large patio areas and lawn between sites give you adequate space between RVs especially in the north section. Many of the sites border the golf course. There is not a lot of shade and this summer storms damaged a few of the trees. There is a nice large pool and hot tub. The park is frequented by many Canadians coming to Spokane for entertainment and shopping. Some sites are individually owned. The park is very well managed. We will come back again next year for a month. Rate reflects monthly rate. We camped at Spokane RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Blackwell Island RV Park, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Mostly gravel sites that are fairly level and some with partial shade. The big draw here is the Spokane river. Along the river beach the park has many Adirondack chairs and umbrellas for shade. We enjoyed swimming and floating in the river. Restrooms were very clean although I thought lighting was poor especially in the set of restrooms at the office. Park is walking distance to the excellent Cedars Floating restaurant. We will visit again. We camped here in a motorhome. We camped at Blackwell Island RV Park in a Motorhome.
