Cascade Caverns, Boerne, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This park may have been nice once upon a time but it's not now. Grass needs to be cut and the grassy or dirt sites that are OK when it's dry are a mess with all the rain in central Texas. I put my tow vehicle in 4WD pulling our 5th wheel into position to avoid digging a muddy hole with one rear tire. Some of the long term residents have multiple vehicles around their RVs and I felt the need to be careful of overhanging branches while pulling thru the park. The good news is that it's very quiet at night. The store is mostly souvenirs from the cavern and has no refrigerated or frozen food or ice. They don't take reservations and we were told to park wherever we wanted and chose site 1. The park is a ways off the freeway and at $20-$25 a night would be worth the drive and mess, but not worth it for the $45 they charged us, especially if you have no interest in the cavern attraction. You prolly want to call before you make the trek to verify they have open sites during popular times of the year. We camped at Cascade Caverns in a Fifth Wheel.

Gaslight Square Mobile Home Park, Canutillo, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Not a bad little park but a bit hard to find. Sites are cement but close together. Our site was high in the front which was a pain because our 5th wheel sits high connected to the truck and we didn't want to disconnect. Water was not working when we arrived so many of the tennants were out and we found everyone friendly. The problem was a city pipe leak and was fixed in a couple of hours. All communication with the office is via voice mail and the lady we dealt with was not consistent about listening to her voice mail or promptly returning calls. But we were able to get business done. Recommend for overnight stays only. We camped at Gaslight Square Mobile Home Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tiger Run RV Resort, Breckenridge, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $95.00
Overall Rating:

High quality premier park. Lots amenities, all first class. The park is largely "chalets" which are really built-in park models with extensive additions but they are all done well so it doesn't distract from the park. When we made reservations, I asked for a site with a view and was told it would cost $5 more per night. We agreed and the view was OK but mostly a tree and the site behind us. And I never understood the cost per night. One night was $115 because it was the last day of a premium period, leaves turning (which was gorgeous), but then another night at $95 and another at $75. I had heard about issues with electrical fluctuations but we did not experience that and water pressure was stable our entire stay. The park is amazing. Indoor pool, woodwork in the shower/restroom building was excellently finished, and beautiful landscaping. Interior roads wide and smooth. Costly but so is everything thing else in the area. We camped at Tiger Run RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Camping in October is risky because of weather. It was snowing when we left and I-70 headed east had patches of ice. We traveled west with no problems, but we learned there was an inch or two of snow the following day.

Campers Paradise RV Park, Sunset, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We overnighted in a 5th wheel. Per the gentleman at the desk, ownership has recently changed. They are renovating the office so things were under construction. There appears to be 2 sections in the park, one with trees and secluded, the other (where we were) right on the frontage road by the freeway. The space was easy to get into (pull through) but there was quite a bit of freeway noise. The site was a little off level. They did have a few things in the little office store, including ice, which we needed. They gave a Good Sam discount and offered an addition discount because I'm a Vet. We would stay again for an overnight stop. We camped at Campers Paradise RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Citrus Valley RV Park, McAllen, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed in the park for 10 days in a 5th wheel. The park appears to have been there for a long time and is mostly filled with full timers; lots of built in park models with extensive additions - no longer movable. Roads are paved but a bit rough in areas and somewhat narrow, and the grass could use better tending. However, I enjoyed my stay. Most residents keep their places up, with flowers and good paint. It was quiet and the staff member who is the face at the front desk and voice on the phone, was helpful and friendly. The front sign says 55+ but I saw several kids, which I didn't find a problem. My site had a small concrete pad and grass everywhere else. It got a bit muddy with rain. Wifi is offered but I did not use it. The sewer connection was down in a hole, maybe 6" below the surrounding grass, covered with a cement block. Took me a while to find it but it worked fine once I was connected. There is a pool and what looks like a hot tub. I didn't use them but they looked very clean. Laundry facility was typical and clean. Quarters or credit cards to operate. I was there on business so I didn't have a lot of free time, but there are tons of restaurants, grocery stores, etc. We camped at Citrus Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rocky Point COE, Queen City, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

Great park. Tight narrow roads in the park with trees at the edge of the pavement. Tight but doable. Some sites have sewer, others not. Not all have 50A service. Our site was not level, front to back and side to side but was OK with boards under drivers side wheels. View was excellent tho, rear faced the lake. Bathrooms are clean but not air conditioned, tough when it's 100 degrees! We love the park and enjoy every time we stop. We camped at Rocky Point COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Crowley's Ridge State Park, Paragould, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

As several have noted, the RV camping sites are along a straight, narrow road, with a small "lolly-pop" shaped turn-around circle at the end. We camped in site 8, which a back-in, directly in line with the access road. So, we had to do a tight u-turn with our 35' 5th wheel and back in. It's doable but tight. Our site was unlevel, front to back but we got it level enough with boards under the trailer wheels without having to disconnect the truck. Beautiful scenery out the back window. Also, we came in on Friday night and had to rent minimum 2 days. We went ahead and did it because the price was reasonable and we like Ark state parks. We camped at Crowley's Ridge State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Cagles Mill Lake / Lieber State Recreation Area, Cloverdale, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

State park with minimal services. Only has power connections (30 & 50A at our site). Water faucet was near our site but did not have a hose connection. Only 3 "comfort stations" (restrooms with flush toilets, etc). Several pit toilets around. Park was quite busy with everything from tent campers to large 5th wheels. Some sites were small and/or unlevel. Poor phone signal ATT. Not a good choice for those used to fancy campgrounds with WiFi, cable, etc. But we enjoyed ourselves. Traffic and kid activities died down at quiet time. We prefer sites with power and water minimum but we were fine for a couple of days on our fresh water tank. Park roads were narrow and had tight turns but accessible with our 35' 5th wheel. $35 per night is too high for what's available. We camped at Cagles Mill Lake / Lieber State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Holiday RV Park, College Station, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Park had plenty of open spots, I'm told because A&M was between sessions. Guy in the office was friendly and worked with me when I couldn't get back exactly by check out time. Site was concrete and level, with no shade. Connections were handy. Access to the park was a pain. It's off a one way exit from a 4 lane divided road. There's a RR track that crosses under the 4 lane so you have to loop back around after leaving the park and either go back the other way by taking a U-turn under the overpass, or wind your way thru apartment complexes to get back to the 4 lane. Plus, my truck GPS showed it on one side of the tracks and google maps showed it on the other (Google maps was correct). Not horrible once I figured it out but it took several painful U turns with the 5th wheel in tow until I did. We camped at Holiday RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mount Pleasant KOA, Mt. Pleasant, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed for two nights. Site is level and smooth concrete with tree coverage. Internal roads are gravel and fairly narrow but we had no problems navigating with our 35' 5th wheel. All connections were convenient and included cable. Staff was helpful and friendly. Easy access from I-30 but it's easy to miss the turn off from Bus 271. We camped at Mount Pleasant KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Midland RV Campground, Midland, Texas

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 10 days in a 5th wheel. As others have noted, it's dusty and windy, as is the entire region. Forget keeping your vehicle clean. Campground staff were very friendly and helpful and our site was wide and long. The bathrooms were pretty bad, clean but cramped and shabby. One stall had no lock. The laundry was dated but the units I used worked well. I didn't try the wifi but cable worked well. We camped at Midland RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

RV Express RV Park, Marshfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

I was parked in an area near the entrance, which I assume is reserved for overnighters. As others have noted, there was freeway noise, but I didn't find it objectionable. The good news is that it was easy in and out, cement and level, and perfect for an overnight stay. Sites were fairly close together, but I wasn't there for any reason other than a nights rest. I would definitely stay again. We camped at RV Express RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Our site was uneven, side to side and front to rear, and gravel. It was long and narrow. The office and restrooms were clean but dated. That's not a bad thing but charging $50 (minus $5 Good Sam discount, $45 total) is bad. $25 or $30 would have been appropriate. We camped at Wichita Falls RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Shallow Creek Golf & RV Resort, Gladewater, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The sites are concrete and level with 10 or 12 feet between sites. The Park was clean and well maintained. Bathrooms were not perfectly clean but ok. Small store with a few things including ice. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Not too bad of a drive to Longview and a bit further to Tyler. Like most parks, the WiFi was pretty lame but occasionally usable. Cable tv worked well. The exit road seemed narrow and steep with a pretty good low spot in the middle. I didn't drag anything with our 35' 5th wheel but was cautious. Dana Peak COE, Harker Heights, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Our site was on the waters edge with no sewer connection or trees. But it was a good view, site was fairly level and had a covered table and grill. Dump station on the way out. 15 min from downtown Killeen. Access roads were paved and smooth but I didn't see any signs pointing to the park. The street to the park is lined with very expensive houses, making me wonder if I was on the correct road. But google maps took me there with no problems. There is a sign asking you to check out. I normally don't stop when I leave but did this time. I had decided to leave a day early, but after checkout time and they refunded the cost of the last day because I had stopped. We camped at Dana Peak COE in a Fifth Wheel.
