Lost Hills RV Park (formerly Lost Hills Campground), Lost Hills, California

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

The price is high for what the park offers, which is not much. Sand and in the middle of nowhere. This is just one step above dry camping at a Truck Stop. I need Electric for my bi-pap machine and a dump station for my tanks. If it were not for the need of a dump station I would have pulled into a truck stop and used the generator.

Contrary to the other reviews I found the office staff very helpful. The restrooms and showers were individual and very clean. So if you need a one day stop and to dump tanks (there is nothing around to see), this would could be the place for you. Most of the camp was taken up with pipeline workers so we used the overflow as we did not want to unhook the tow car. This worked out good for us in that regards. If you do not need to dump tanks: use a truck stop. We camped at Lost Hills RV Park (formerly Lost Hills Campground) in a Motorhome.

Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort (formerly Terrible's Gold Ranch Casino), Verdi, Nevada

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

This must be the most spacious RV park I have ever been in and one of the best maintained. Great view enough to the lake and Reno at the same time. I have trouble breathing at high altitudes and did not know if I would be able to take this for as long as we had reserved it. The office staff suggested that I check-in for three nights instead of the four I had reserved and they put my space on hold for the fourth night. Their reasoning was I would not have to wait for a refund if I checked out after 3 nights. The sites required that you put block down for your jacks. I did not do this and my 40 footer put a 2" hole in the pavement. I told them about this when I checked out and they said not to worry about it. Looking for a place while visiting the area this is the spot to call home for a while. Good restaurant, pool, and other facilities. Except for the altitude I would go there and spend a week or so in the area. There are no negatives for this park. They no longer take full timers but are not kicking them out just not allowing anymore when they do leave. So while there are some it is less than 5% of the spaces if it makes a difference to you. We camped at Gold Ranch Casino & RV Resort (formerly Terrible's Gold Ranch Casino) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Short ways to Reno and Lake Tahoe. This is a great place to stop if you are planning to visit either or both of these. There is a Cabela's sporting goods store just down the road. Do not forget to visit Truckee at least take a drive through it. Interesting places to walk however. I had to leave all of this for driving as at 5000 feet I'm close to having to use oxygen. One lung and being old does not allow me to do what I used to be able to do.

Elks Lodge #832 (Members Only), Napa, California

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice, 12 sites park behind the lodge. Downtown is 1 mile away. It is a great place to be when exploring Napa Valley. Very clean and quiet. Level parking, did not use jacks. Our site had 50 amp, some may only have 30 amp. I was under the impression that they redid them and they all are now 50 amps. If that is important, make sure to check as I'm not sure.

They did raise the price: it is $30 a night now. All are full hookups which is unusual for Elk's Lodges. Nicely landscaped sites. Some people are saying they are close together, I would say they are about normal compared to what I have stayed in. About half can take 40 - 42 foot RV, but it is a tight fit to get into them. No reservations but a great place to stay while touring Napa area. We camped at Elks Lodge #832 (Members Only) in a Motorhome.

Visit Castello Di Amorosa last winery on the road up Napa valley.

Visit the Jelly Belly Factory in Fairfield. Purchase Belly Flops: fun for everyone.

Rivers Edge RV Resort, Winterhaven, California

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

This was going to be a one night stop with some fishing. Fishing is not good, water too swift. The spots are uneven but easy to navigate. The issue for us was the power, as it was unbalanced after a lightning storm came through. One leg was low enough to make me decide to run the generator rather than risk my RV equipment. I could have moved but decided not to with no promise of better power. The staff was great but they were gone when the power went bad so there was no help except to move or put on the generator. There were trees lining the back of most spaces, not ours. I could see that they could block out the morning sun or the afternoon sun, depending on which row you're parked on. Full hookups, 30/50 amp, not level where I was but a number did seem to be better. Dirt and gravel with a cement pad for a patio. Lots of long term residences. Friendly people, which I have not always found with long term residents. We camped at Rivers Edge RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Elks Lodge #2500 (Members Only), Rio Rancho, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

Why did I list this? If you are coming to the Balloon Fiesta and like me like to leave a little time before I have to be somewhere that has a deadline this is a good place to stop. I planned on showing up the day before I was to check into my spot at the Balloon Fiesta. If you are an Elk, you almost always can find a spot to do this. This just happens to be a great place to stop as it is close to the Balloon Fiesta park. I called them and told them I just needed a place to park and they told me there was no issue even though they do not have RV facilities. As it turned out I could see the balloons go up in the distance and drove down to the river to see them even better. We dry camped in their lot for 2 nights. I ran the generator for AC power I need for my bi-pap machine. Had a few drinks and tacos as it was taco night at the Elks. The next day did a dry run to see the best way to get into the RV President's Compound and relaxed. Checking out how to get into the Balloon Fiesta was a good idea as the signage was not all that good. Left about 9 AM to go to the Presidents Compound and arrived about 10 AM. They let us park our rig shortly thereafter even though the published check-in time was noon. We camped at Elks Lodge #2500 (Members Only) in a Motorhome.

Elks Lodge #1558 (Members Only), Carlsbad, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

If you want a place to stay and are willing to dry camp then this is your spot. It does have power but only enough room for one big rig. There is enough room for a couple of smaller rigs but it still does not have water just power. That aside, in all other respects it is a typical Elk's Lodges, friendly. We dry camped and left the generator on all night as I need AC for my bi-pap machine. Lodge serves meals and is open most evenings. So you can have a break from cooking if you would like. We used this for a two night stop so we could view the Caverns one day. Not sure a better place would have been to go into White City but you need to check the reviews and decide if dry camp is better than White City. If you stay at the Elks, you are about 1/2 hour from the cavern parking lot. We camped at Elks Lodge #1558 (Members Only) in a Motorhome.

Cadillac Ranch RV Park, Bluff, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Central location with a nice view of the Bluffs. The place is for sale it was built by current owners grandparents and after 6 years of running it they want to do something else. The place could use a lot of upkeep and repairs but that said it was a great place to stay. Everything was kept clean if not in the best shape. Flat pull thought spots 50 amps except for one 30 amp spot that is closest to the front we chose that one because it was Oct and was not going to be hot and it was close to the big boys and girls facilities. We would stay here again if I ever come back. We camped at Cadillac Ranch RV Park in a Motorhome.

Silver Strand State Beach, Coronado, California

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

I'm a local as I live in San Diego. My grand kids came in with their parents and spend 3 days in the water. They all had one of the best vacations and want to come back. I will give you the negative stuff first but let me say I would and will do it again. Everything that was said in the newer (after 2014) reviews is correct except about the spaces being level. I drive a 40 foot RV. If the park had been full I may not have gotten my rig into the space. With slides out I had 1 foot on one side and with the canopy out I had about 1 foot on the other side. I own a Honda Fit and was able to park it just so the RV door would open and I had 1 foot left on that side. It does have water and power now with a dump station available. The gates lock at 9pm and if you are outside you have a 1 1/2 miles to get to your RV walking. Dogs are allowed in the park, but not on the beach. All of the spaces are level enough for trailers or RV if they are around 30 feet. Most space will level a 40 footers. But I saw some regulars that had made 6 inch block to drive their RV's onto so they could be level. I was lucky in that my spot was almost flat but if I had been in 400 to 404 spaces I would not have been able to level it out. almost all of the 100 (on the beach) are level enough for big rigs as are most of the 200 spaces. it is the low 300 - 315 or so (south of the check-in building) and the 400 spaces at either end of the park that are an issue. I'm local and will go over there sometime and make a list of space level enough for 36 and larger RV's. Weekends at the park are full. I recommend making this a non-weekend stop. That is all of the negative stuff. Beach is great good surf for boogie boards and kids lots of seaweed however. Some campfire rings are on the beach but lots of people brought portable campfire rings. We camped at Silver Strand State Beach in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It is San Diego. Seaport village, USS Midway, exploring Coronado and the Hotel Del Coronado. The Hotel is ok but not as good as it used to be 10 years ago. Hotel parking lot $30 for two hours or if you spend $50 you get validation for 3 hours. Other places I recommend Point Loma Lighthouse, Cabrillo Monument, for a great view of San Diego and some interesting history. Then there are the Maritime museum, Zoo Balboa Park and lots more. Just check out Tripadviser for the rest.

It is on the Bay so while the view is great swimming is like being in a big saltwater pool. It is a good place to just kickback and relax and it is in San Diego where there are a ton of things to do. Easy launching for water toys. Can rent boat including sailboats but you must have experience to rent sailboats.

Stovepipe Wells Village RV Park (Concessionaire Operated), Death Valley National Park, California

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

14 spots 2 trees if you can call them trees. Must call ahead and have reservations as this is a really small park. High turnover we stays longer than anyone but wanted to take our time and enjoy a relaxing vacation. This is a wonderful value. 20 yards away is the Park Service RV park. They get nothing you get full hookups access to the swimming pool across the road. The owner give a 1/2 off discount to people that have a senior park pass. WiFi is available in the resort across the street but not in the RV section. They have been trying to get it but the state will not let them. Gas is available but diesel is not at this location. Calico Ghost Town & Campground, Yermo, California

Date of Stay: March, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Biggest reason I can see to stay here is to go to the ghost town. Admittance is included with the space rental. I do agree that unless you want a crowd do not go during special events. But that goes for everyplace you stay. We had a great time met some nice people the ranger patrolled every hour until 11PM. We stayed for two nights on our way to Death Valley. Two sunsets and roasted marshmallows. The spaces are wide enough some would be hard to get into if the place was full just because of the angle required to get into them. This is a desert so expect sand and dust. We camped at Calico Ghost Town & Campground in a Motorhome.

No dump station on sight but there is one at the Chevron Station on the corner of Browne and Washington Streets on the east side of town free with a minimum purchase 2 miles away.

You are only 45 min from the ferry to Victoria Island. Recommend you stay at the Royal Scotts Hotel and Suites if you take your car to Victoria Island.

We eat Sunday breakfast and had dinner a couple of times. They have a golf course next to them that is private but they have an arrangement so that if you are staying there you can use it. This was our first stay and we were given a couple of choices we choose the one up on a hill overlooking the canyon and river. This put us out of WiFi range lower spots which are really tight do have WiFi. Enjoyed our stay need to be careful who parks you they ran me into a tree branch and damaged a roof vent. Our spot was not as close as the main area. The reviews are correct when they say that area is very close. We were just close. Leavenworth is worth seeing once at least and if you can arrange it do the farmers market in the park. We had a great time good music, food and friendly people. I do not think Leavenworth would be a good place to visit when it was tourist season. If you have a smaller rig say less than 36 feet I would try staying at the state campgrounds that are out a little further. There were a couple of spaces that would have taken my 40 foot rig I think.
