Saint Andrews State Park, Panama City Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

It's very difficult to get a reservation to this park and I live here. The beach is the big draw here, but the campground is about 1/2 to 1 mile from it. The campground is on a lagoon and we were backed up to it with great views. We saw dolphins, heron and several deer. There are 4 bathhouses and they are all in excellent shape and clean. The interior roads are in rough shape. There are 2 dump stations and we still had to wait for about 30 minutes. After Labor Day 2018, they are closing 100 sites for improvements and only 75 will be available for walk up only. More info can be found on the website. Overall it was a nice experience. We camped at Saint Andrews State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Twin Lakes Camp Resort, Defuniak Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice campground if you like resort type campgrounds. We usually stay in state parks or COE campgrounds. We stayed here because we got a free night when we bought our RV. Unless you happen to get a spot on an end, which we had, your only view is of the camper next to you. I think our spot was probably the best along with T7 and H23. We had an extra long pull thru and one of the nicest fire pits I've seen. Not too many of the sites had fire pits, mainly because they're so close together. Several sites back up to the lake. There is a pool and activity center, camp store. Showers are like nothing I've seen in a campground. The camp grounds are kept up nicely. A lot more info is available on their website. The park is on two lakes. There are boat launches and docks you can fish from. No swimming in the lake.(Possible alligators and Water Moccasins). The main reason I didn't rate it a 10 is the closeness of the sites. I prefer more space, but that's just me! We camped at Twin Lakes Camp Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park, Niceville, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was a breeze and the sites are all fairly level. All sites are gravel except the ADA sites which are concrete. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. Our site was on the water side and was a little tight backing in to. Most sites are pretty large, especially on the back side. There are a couple hiking trails, a swing set and a covered picnic pavilion in the camping area and a playground in the day use area. Good for biking! We camped at Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Dead Lakes Recreation Area, Wewahitchka, Florida

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

A nice little county park with about 20 some sites. There are back in sites along the perimeter and pull thru sites in the interior. They are mostly all grass sites and some will need leveling. There is a permanent camp host on site. No reservations are taken, but there is usually plenty to pick from. Just pull into the site you want and the host will come around to get your money. There is a laundry available. The bathrooms, while clean, could use some upgrading. There are several dedicated tent sites also. There are two large ponds with long docks for fishing and also a boat launch. Also a nice playground for the kids. Firewood is available for purchase. There's a small nature trail, but if you're just looking for a relaxing place to do nothing, then this is a good one! We camped at Dead Lakes Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Most all sites back up to the water! As usual with my experience at COE parks, the showers in the bathhouse need some serious upgrading. Concrete pads and crushed gravel impact areas. We always enjoy coming here! We camped at White Oak Creek Park COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Reed Bingham State Park, Adel, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

We were in Loop 2 which was mostly full hookup including cable TV. The exterior sites were shaded. We had a pull through with our patio facing the woods(site 33) which we enjoyed. The bathrooms were some of the best that I've seen. Plenty of room in the showers and very clean. The campground hosts were friendly and made it a point to visit every site to let us know of impending bad weather in the area. There's a place called the Buzzard's Roost inside the campground that sells firewood and rents bikes. They also have board games and some corn hole games that you can sign out(no charge). There is a lake in the park across the road from the campground that rents canoes and kayaks. Also several trails to walk or bike. Other than the price, which I thought was a bit much for a state park even with full hookup it was a campground that I could see us coming back to. Not sure what the rates are for Non full hookup sites. That info should be available on their website. One thing that I don't like with Georgia State Parks is that you can only reserve "a" spot, not a specific one. You pick it out when you get there, but that's a state thing and I'm not taking this out on the park. Other than the rain on our last three days, it was a most enjoyable experience. We camped at Reed Bingham State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There's a Walmart in Moultrie(about 15 miles west). Also a Chick- Fil-A right across the street from it. They're building a Walmart in Adel(7 miles east), but it wasn't open yet. Carter's Catfish House is right outside the park gates(we rode our bikes to it). Very good but it's only open Thurs.-Sat. nights.

Blackwater River State Park , Holt, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is the first time that we have camped here and we loved it! First of all, it's full hookup for only $20 a night. I always like to use the showers if possible just to check them out. They were the best showers that I've used at a state park. Clean and plenty of room. The sites are pea gravel and level, with picnic table, fire pit and clothesline. After someone leaves a site, the campground host rakes the site to level it back out. There are a couple hiking trails. Access to one of them is in the campground and the other about half a mile away. The river is famous for canoeing and kayaking. If you don't have your own canoe or kayak, there is an outfitter about a mile and a half down the road. The park is 12 miles off Interstate 10. The closest grocery and gas is in Milton, about 15 miles away. We camped at Blackwater River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

White Oak Creek Park COE, Eufaula, Alabama

The park is broke down into 4 sections. The second(Oakwood) and third(Creek View) are reservable. The first and fourth are not. The third and fourth sections are closed for the winter. A typical COE park. Water views whatever spot you get. The only negative is no full hook ups.

Great sunsets over Lake Seminole! Our site was completely concrete which made it a lot less messy when it rained. Picked up all major TV networks with our rooftop antenna. The 2 bathhouses are in the B loop. A quiet park and one of our favorites. We camped at Eastbank COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Cotton Hill COE, Fort Gaines, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $26.00

This was our first time visiting Cotton Hill and we were very pleased. We picked out our site from some pictures we saw and we weren't disappointed. We had a concrete pad and crushed gravel impact area. Having full hookups was a big plus. We were in the Old Mill section which was the more woodsy section. Had a nice view of Sandy Creek from the rear of the campsite. Would definitely stay here again. We camped at Cotton Hill COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Grassy Pond FamCamp (Open to the Public), Lake Park, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

It's still under management of the military, but is now open to the public. Our grandkids came for the weekend and had plenty to do. 2 separate playgrounds, basketball, volleyball, fishing and boat rentals. The sites around the outside of the campground were the best. They are angled enough that when you were sitting outside you didn't have a view of the camper next to you and nice wooded views to the rear. We were able to pick up all the major TV networks with just our antenna. Wifi is available, but a little spotty the further you were from the bathhouse. Bathrooms were clean and laundry is available. There is also a common room in the bathhouse complex with big screen TV and plenty of comfy chairs and couches. The only thing we didn't like was there were no fire rings at each campsite. They had a large fire pit near the bathhouse with firewood available but the three nights we were there, nobody used it. It was very quiet and we would stay there again when we are in the area. We camped at Grassy Pond FamCamp (Open to the Public) in a Fifth Wheel.

Florala City Park, Florala, Alabama

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

First of all, the sunsets are unbeatable. The WiFi is spotty unless you are close to the bathhouse (we weren't so it was mostly non existent for us). Bathrooms are OK, but they are pretty old. Having full hookups is a big plus. Not much for toddler age kids to do at the campgrounds although there are some swings and slides at the other end of the park. Overall a nice park if you're looking for some peace and quiet. We stayed a full week and paid the weekly rate which was $156. We camped at Florala City Park in a Fifth Wheel.
