Wagons West RV Park, Fillmore, Utah

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This park is one of very few after leaving Provo heading South on I 15. It is an adequate overnight stop. It is near freeway but traffic noise was minimal. Good antenna service and Verizon. Poor Sprint reception. Site mostly level rutted dirt with some shade tree coverage. Propane service available at park. Management was very friendly. No dedicated dog area but can walk along main road with sidewalk and some grass. We would overnight here again. We camped at Wagons West RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Red Trail Campground, Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

There are few alternatives in this area with the state and National Park campsites with no utilities. Spaces are close and on fairly level gravel. Interior roads are also gravel and dirt so heavy rains cause potholes. If full maneuverability would be difficult in some back in spaces. Laundry room was clean and $2/load and $1/dryer load. Cable was an extra $2/night. Free WiFi worked well. Verizon data and cell worked well. No area to walk dogs in park however there is a wide sidewalk along a grassy area on the main road. We camped at Red Trail Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Turtle River State Park, Arvilla, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Quiet area about 25 minutes from Grand Forks. Most sites in South Loop are wooded and large level pull through sites. There is an abundance of poison ivy and mosquitoes so plan to spray. Water and electricity worked well. Good antenna pick up. Verizon with cell and data service. Minimal Sprint. This area worked well for overnight stop. We camped at Turtle River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Pines of Kabetogama Resort, Kabetogama, Minnesota

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $80.00
Overall Rating:

There are few options in the area which led us to stay in this park despite the high price. We chose to stay on the hill which afforded us a beautiful view of the lake. Site is very level gravel base and the resort staff delivered and placed a large astroturf rug in front of our unit. In addition they laid a fire in the pit and provided firewood. Definitely upscale. The price included dock privileges and most campers are there for the fishing. Staff was excellent. Deer flies were abundant. We camped at The Pines of Kabetogama Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Governor Dodge State Park, Dodgeville, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very expensive for non Wisconsin residents. If you plan to stay over 1 night or at any other Wisconsin state parks you should purchase the out of state park decal which will give you a 50% reduction. The entrance attendant did not offer this option so we did not know until after reading literature. In addition, if you are a walk in you must choose a site before entering from a map with no pictures or descriptions. With all that said this is a park which has a lot to offer. Most sites are very large and private with options from complete shade to sunny. There is only 30 amp service which was adequate in fall weather. There are potable water spigots around the park but not at individual sites. We had antenna service and adequate Verizon but no Sprint. There are miles of well maintained trails which intersect and allow leashed dogs. All had benches along the trails. There are 2 lakes with swimming and boating and ample parking and picnic areas. The only trash containers are at the dump station near the park entrance. There are no cans in camping loops. We would definitely stay again and would purchase the state park decal. At $20 it would be great price. We gave it an 8 for the cost and fact that our site had no grass and was muddy. There were many nicer sites for our needs but as we could not look they were not an option. We camped at Governor Dodge State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grant River COE, Potosi, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

This was such a wonderful surprise. Unsurpassed view of the Mississippi River from our back in paved site. Large green area with benches for river viewing run the length of the park and day use area. Some antenna coverage and sufficient Verizon and Sprint data and cell service. Downside would be the somewhat frequent trains which pass very close to the park. Reservations must be made 2 days or more in advance, otherwise it is first come first serve. Midweek we had several sites to choose from but the host said weekends are full. Come knowing you need water on board as there is only scattered pumps around the camp. The view and the lovely sites made up for the other shortcomings. We camped at Grant River COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Illinois State Fair Campgrounds, Springfield, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very large facility with sites that range from paved parking lot to grass fields. We chose to stay on a mostly level grass area with some tree coverage. The drive in was dirt so probaly difficult to manuver in rainy weather. The 30 amp electric and water were easily reached. As there were no events at the fairgrounds, we had a large area to ourselves, however each site is actually very close together. When you arrive you either stop at the office, or if it is unmanned, pick a space and call security. They will unlock the electric box and collect the nightly fee. There are large grassy areas to walk dogs. The WiFi was included and worked well. We had good Sprint and Verizon service. We were able to pick up antenna service easily. We camped at Illinois State Fair Campgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park, Wildwood, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this park for the quiet and spacious sites. We had a 50 amp site which worked well, but was on the main entry road. We were there during a heavy thunderstorm so having a paved raised pad saved us from soggy ground. The remainder of our site was grass and dirt. There were numerous walking trails which allowed dogs on leash. The dump station was convenient and clean. We would stay again in one of the loops off of the entry road. We camped at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Weston Bend State Park, Weston, Missouri

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful park with electric only. If you need 50 amp be sure and reserve a premium site. Dump is located at enterance and water spigots are scattered around loop. Site was level and partially shaded. Good antenna pick up. Verizon data and phone worked well. Some of the longer sites are fairly close to a second site. Huge fenced dog park is located as you drive in main enterance but best to drive. We camped at Weston Bend State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Kansas State Fairgrounds, Hutchinson, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

What a perfect location for this area as well as a great bargain. A little tricky to find in the fairgrounds from the main enterance, but follow the main road to the back. You pay in an envelope left in locked mailbox. You can park anywhere if available as long as the Fairgrounds are not in use. Good Verizon and Sprint coverage. Antenna picked up 30 channels. Gunsmoke RV Park, Dodge City, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This park has very large gravel pull through sites in the rear section. Each site had a large grass area with treesto separate from other units. Utilities were easy to access. There were two ports for sewer connection to allow easy hook-up. Dog walking was along a grass path in the back of the park. Dogs on leash only outside of your unit. Good Verizon service but no Sprint service. No cable but we were able to pick up 17 Channels with antenna. Nice clean laundry room facility. Park is conveniently located to Boot Hill Museum. We would stay at this park again. We camped at Gunsmoke RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The all inclusive tickets at Boot Hill Museum was a great deal. Dinner turned out to be surprisingly good with generous portions. The night variety show ends at 8 p.m. so be sure to bring your gate code.

As stated previously the owner is very strict about park rules. Not a bad thing but be prepared to follow exactly or you "will get the boot"

Haggard's RV Campground, Pueblo West, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This park is conveniently located off Colorado 50 and perfect for an overnight stop. The service from the owners of the park was excellent. We booked a full hookup site but ended up only hooking up to electric due to the high mineral content of the well water. There are very limited mature trees however there are many small seedlings planted. The dog yard is exceptionally large and was the high point of the park as both of our dogs needed room to roam. The shower facilities were clean and no charge but definitely older. There was a nice pool and somewhat older playground available as well. The park Wi-Fi work well and we had excellent coverage with Verizon. We were able to pick up over 30 channels on antenna. We would use this park again for an overnight stay. We camped at Haggard's RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

South Rim (NPS Campground), Black Canyon Gunnison Nat'l Park, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

We made a reservation in the B loop for our 36ft travel trailer. This site required us to park parallel to the road on the gravel shoulder of the road. Because the road was somewhat narrow and the shoulder was narrow it was difficult for us to maneuver and we were unable to open the slide out completely. We had 50 amp service which worked well. There were no other utilities. No dump station in park. There was no cell or Wi-Fi service. We were able to pick up local channels with antenna. Despite all of these inconvenient things, this is a beautiful park and well worth the problems of the campsite. Numerous deer wandered through our campsite and each site was separated from its neighbor by oak and other shrubs. The night sky was glorious and allowed viewing of millions of stars and the Milky Way. There are two trails which allow leashed dogs, a rarity in a National Park. We camped at South Rim (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Stop at all of the overlooks on the south rim. The boat tours sponsored by the park service was well worth the 25 mile drive out of the main part of the park. Be aware of that if you wish to visit this with your vehicle and trailer that the parking is over 3/4 mile regular parking and trailhead. The hike to the boat launches strenuous but well worth the effort.

Blue Mountain RV Park, Blanding, Utah

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

We had a 70 foot level gravel site which was more than long enough for a one night stay with our 36-foot fifth wheel and truck. Utilities were easily accessed . There is no cable but we were able to get over 30 channels on antenna. Free Wi-Fi is provided and service was good. The upper sites have grass and some trees while those on the lower levels are just gravel. All sites have a cement walk way and a pucnic table and barbque. They have put in a packed dirt walk in a field for dog access. This park looks like it is under construction or improvement as there are many areas that have been leveled but are still dirt. It is immediately next to the highway so there is some traffic noise. Because it is immediately off the highway it is perfect for an overnight stay. We camped at Blue Mountain RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
