Point Lookout State Park, Scotland, Maryland

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This park has many things to do within its boundaries as well as historical sites.

Unfortunately, mosquitoes, poison ivy, deer flies, briars, and thorn vines are all around the camping sites. The park is in a low area and near bay waters. This lends it to swamp bugs. The camp host for this loop left the park before his hosting time was finished.

This loop does not have any public bath house or restrooms. This loop has full hookups so this may be why. Restrooms in other areas of the park we are familiar with, are nice. Those areas are still subject to the swampy environment.

Campsite 65 is gravel with timbers at the edges. 30 amp & (50 amp older style 'L' plug) amp service, water, and sewer. We had room to park tow dolly at back of site and place our 30' MH near the hookups.

This site had been recently used by someone who had disposed of egg shells, food bones, and crab shells in the vegetation around the edge of the campsite. Park personnel should have caught this on a departure site inspection and cleaned it up or had the camper clean it up. We camped at Point Lookout State Park in a Motorhome.

Pastime Park, Plain City, Ohio

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Open April 1-Oct. 31st. Located at the Plain City Fairgrounds. It is generally quiet, but I expect this can vary based on other programs planned during your stay (i.e. music in the park, Steam Threshers Festival, Rod Builders). The following activities are available: playground for children, disc golf course, basketball court, baseball field, short level hiking trail within park, city pool for an additional charge. Staff is helpful and friendly. We will definitely come here again if we are in the Columbus area. We camped at Pastime Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Der Dutchman restaurant/bakery is a short drive away. The long walk back would be helpful afterward. Camping World is about 15 miles south of the park at I-70 and SR 42.

Jetty Park Campground, Cape Canaveral, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is part of the Cape Canaveral Port Auth. It is located within sight of the shipping channel serving the Port. Cruise ships, Casino ships, tugs and container ships can be seen from the campground. Some water only sites are very close to the channel and have an unobstructed view. However, most of those sites slope quite a bit. This area also has a nice playground and picnic area. It is outside of the fenced in campground.
Our site was within the main fenced campground. It was not level front to back. Required 8"+ of leveling blocks for each front wheel. Electric and sewer were on the driver's side and water was 50'+ away on passenger's side. We were fine once setup. Other sites are more level. Some sites have concrete pads.
We were quite surprised how quiet the park and ship traffic was most of the time. We were near the public boat ramp into the channel.
Price is tiered to favor county residents.
We would consider staying here again if we needed to be in this specific area as was the case this time. We camped at Jetty Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Lake Manatee State Park, Bradenton, Florida

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Palmettos, pine, and oaks border the camp sites and provide reasonable privacy with about 15-20+ feet of vegetation between camp sites. Site was covered with leaves and pine needles. Most site appear to be reasonable level and should only need minor adjustments.

Bikes are limited to the paved park roads in the camping area and those which provide access to the lake beach and playground area and the boat launch area.

Hiking trails appear to provide access to the largest area of the park.

We were here on a Thursday and Friday night. The race track was open Thursday evening. There was some awareness of the loud speakers from the track, but it was very tolerable. I have been in campgrounds were the campers were noisier and more annoying.

Staff was very helpful and pleasant.

There is not any wifi in the park and my repeater did not pickup any nearby. Camp host indicated the nearest to be McD's about 15 minutes southwest. We camped at Lake Manatee State Park in a Motorhome.

Raleigh Oaks RV Resort, Four Oaks, North Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Large park with pool, miniature golf, fenced dog walk, cable TV. Gravel roads and sites with some grass between. Most sites seem to be rather level.

Pancake breakfast if you do not have to get on the road early.

Staff was friendly and responsive to cable not working at site. Fixed in 15 minutes.

It had rained recently so there was some muddy areas in the grass between sites.

Water and cable hookups were extremely close to the ground. Get on your knees to hook things up. Water was very difficult to connect. There was a washed out area under the water spicket. If this depression was not there it would be impossible to hookup the water pressure control or hose. The low water and cable connections appeared to be at all the sites. This is my main reason for an 8 rating. It would have been a 9 or 10 otherwise.

Near I-95 so some road noise.

Our 28' Class C with tow dolly and GMC Terrain was easily accommodated getting around the park to and from our site. We camped at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pohick Bay Regional Park, Lorton, Virginia

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Pohick Bay Regional Park is located in a wooded area. Roads are paved.

Sites are dirt, but they were putting gravel down. Our site also had timbers placed around it to help contain gravel. It was the only one with the timbers.

There are only 10 sites with full hookups. Other sites have water and electric or shared water at some tent sites.

There are two bath houses with laundry areas, but only one was open as we were here out of season.

The office has wifi. We were able to get a weak signal from it with our Jefatech repeater using an outside antenna. Later in the week, we moved to a second site and could not pickup the wifi, so the coverage is spotty away from the office.

There was a loop with some small rustic cabins. Also, there were a couple new cabins build recently in another area overlooking the river. These appeared to have central AC or heat. We camped at Pohick Bay Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This park has hiking trails though the woods. The trails can be used to get to the marina at the river.

There is a playground for the children in the center of the camping area.

On the drive to the marina is a summer water park (not sure of fees), Frisbee golf in the woods, and miniature golf (showing its age).

Gunston Hall is near for a historical home tour.

Shopping is 5-6 miles from park.

Inland Harbor RV Park, Darien, Georgia

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

No credit cards accepted. Friendly staff. Near interstate 95 and surprisingly quieter than anticipated. Site had cable TV.

Park drives and sites are paved and are very narrow. Our site was not level and required a fairly significant amount of leveling blocks.

28 foot class C MH without leveling system towing car dolly and GMC Terrain just fit length of site. We camped at Inland Harbor RV Park in a Motorhome.
