Cowtown RV Park, Aledo, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed at Cowtown because there was no other place that could accommodate us for the length of time we wanted to be in the area. I found the staff to be curt and unhelpful. My wife got scolded for using change to buy ice on one occasion. The cable stopped working (wasn't good to start with: fuzzy, bad sound). When I told the manager he came down checked it with some kind of gadget and said "I guess it's not working". Really? It never got repaired, several of our neighbors lost it at the same time and never got it back either. When I asked at the office I was told they didn't know what was wrong with it and they would get to it eventually.

The sites are very tight and the cement pad, like most of the pads in the park, was broken up and very unlevel.

During our 2 week stay I don't think the restrooms/showers were thoroughly cleaned a single time. Their idea of cleaning is flushing the toilet and adding more toilet paper.

The road noise from I-20 is excessive even in the middle of the night.

The interior roads are atrocious. There are ruts and washes that make it really tough to navigate with or without a trailer in tow. The wooden picnic table was very warped with peeling paint. The one time I tried to use it the ants came out in force within minutes.

The park is filled with mostly full-time residents, many of whose sites are quite unkempt.

The best thing I can say about this place is it works in a pinch when all other options are unavailable. We camped at Cowtown RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Bentsen Palm Village RV Park , Palmview, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

It's obvious that at one point this was a premier RV Park, but has been allowed to become far less than what you pay for.

The laundry facilities are very poor quality and not nearly enough machines for a park of this size. The fitness equipment is poor quality and several of the machines don't work. There are far too few restrooms/showers and for the first 4 weeks of our 7 week stay there was no hot water in the larger of the 2 restroom/shower/laundry buildings. The water is completely undrinkable and left a nasty residue on everything it touched including our water lines, it took 2 weeks to get the nasty taste out of our water lines. We went through 3 water filters in 3 weeks before giving up and just using water for hand washing.

The sugar cane growers burned fields every few days leaving a soot residue on everything, not to mention the smoke. And surprisingly it is windy all the time........almost Wyoming windy!

It's not all bad though. The nearby Bentsen Palms bird sanctuary is a real treat but you can see it in a day. We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Alsatian Resort & Golf Club, Castroville, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

One of the most disappointing things to see anywhere is lost potential. Unfortunately this RV Park is a prime example of that. It was built well, but has not been maintained to the standard I would expect from an operation that calls itself a "resort". In the 5 weeks we stayed here the restroom/showers were only cleaned 4 times and very poorly at that. The laundry room is very cramped with an inadequate number of W/D's for the number of sites. The landscape, both lawns and ornamental beds are terribly maintained with abundant weed growth. The workers driving around the park in carts will drive right by trash on the ground and leave it. The park installed water regulator leaked terribly; I told them but they didn't seem to care. The restaurant is mediocre at best. The only real bright spot here is a lady who works in the office. Go somewhere else. We camped at Alsatian Resort & Golf Club in a Travel Trailer.

Mission Bell RV Resort (55+ park), Mission, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

We booked a monthly stay at Mission Bell based on the website photos and information. When we pulled in we were sorely disappointed with almost every aspect of the park. This is a very old park that has long since fallen into disrepair. Its maintained in "working order" but is badly in need of updating. The website goes on about all the buildings and facilities which are present but not well maintained. The WiFi is only available in two spots for the entire park. One of the locations is the library which is so small and dank I couldn't stay there more than a few minutes.

The restrooms/showers are very small and not well done. The ones we used in our two nights stay (not the scheduled month) smelled of mildew or something.

The spaces are very small and not at all as expected. The tiny concrete patio was being overtaken by weeds and grass that are mowed but otherwise unkempt. Watch out for sand burrs. The wooden electrical post on our site was original to the park and about to fall over.

The park amounts to about half old trailers and newer park model trailers of permanent residents. The roads are extremely narrow, rough asphalt. The park is poorly lit and backs up to what sounds like a discotheque. We were treated to very loud, thumping music late into the night.

Beware they WILL NOT issue any kind of refund if you decide to leave early!!!!!

There are other much better kept parks in the area.

After checking in and getting set up we were offered a tour of the facilities. It was obvious that even our tour guide, one of the camp hosts, didn't like the place or want to be there.

The snow birds we met were all very friendly but the permanent residents were very stand-offish.

I really wish I could offer more positive thoughts about the park but they're just not there. We camped at Mission Bell RV Resort (55+ park) in a Travel Trailer.

USA RV Park, Gallup, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This park is a great place to stop on your way across the country on I-40. Try to reserve or arrive early because it fills up every night. We have stayed here multiple times.
On our last visit my surge protector showed a problem with the electrical pedestal. I informed John, the owner and he had an electrician out within minutes. It turns out the issue was with my surge protector not the pedestal. John made no issue about what surely cost a service charge he just wanted to make sure everything was tip top shape.
The entire park is just gravel but very well maintained. Restrooms and showers are very clean as is the office and store which is loaded with lots of New Mexico souvenirs and always has fresh ice.
We will definitely be back. We camped at USA RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Colorado Springs KOA, Fountain, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here several years ago and it was pretty nice but time has taken its toll. The park and facilities are fairly clean but not well maintained. There are several dead trees throughout the park, the roads and sites need leveling and substantial maintenance. The bathrooms and showers need work. We camped at Colorado Springs KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA, Bernalillo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This is without a doubt the cleanest, most well maintained KOA we have ever visited. All the staff were very friendly and extremely hepful. The cable TV and WiFi were both very reliable. We will definitely stay here again when in the area. We camped at Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Fort Amarillo RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This was an overnight stop while passing through. We arrived early enough to be able to meet some of the staff who were very friendly and helpful. It was Sunday afternoon so they closed early and we didn't get to browse the store but it looked very inviting. The park is very well run and very clean. They were in the process of doing some refurbishments/upgrades to the playground area when we were there. There is a nice little pond in the center of the park where we enjoyed watching the duck. WiFi work very well. I would definitely recommend this campground. We camped at Fort Amarillo RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Dallas / Arlington KOA, Arlington, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

The location is what drew us to this campground. We did enjoy being in the middle of everything in Arlington; however, there is a big "but". The park is over run with long termers that don't keep their sites up well. The pool was a bit off-color and in need of a thorough cleaning. The shower/restrooms were not very clean and in desperate need of some repairs. Shower #2 was missing the shower head, #4 had almost no water pressure, and #5 had so much pressure it hurt (no flow adjustment on control knobs). We didn't try the cable. The WiFi worked really well but was not secured. We camped at Dallas / Arlington KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Priest Gulch Campground & RV Park, Dolores, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We love this campground. The staff are great people who really care about keeping things clean and in working order. The river running through the middle of the campground makes it one of the more enjoyable places we've ever stayed. Almost the entire property is shaded some sites with small lawns. The WiFi is weak in some spots but who wants to be "connected" in a place like this. The free firewood (donations accepted in the office) is a great bonus and begs for a cocktail by the fire every evening. We will be back. We camped at Priest Gulch Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Mesa Verde RV Resort, Mancos, Colorado

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Can not say enough good things about this RV park and the people that run it. Everything is exactly as you would expect it to be in an RV park. Their high ratings in the RV directories are well deserved. I wish all parks were run and maintained like this one. We camped at Mesa Verde RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.
