Orange County Fair & Events Center, Costa Mesa, California

Date of Stay: November, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

RV, full hook ups in OC? WHAT? I've lived here all my life (59 years) and just NOW heard of this! Am spending the year on the road in my RV, and came home to see family. Where to go? OC Fairgrounds? WHAT?

Security is wonderful. Found my spot, and a Christmas shopping show? WHAT? Entertainment, too? Great experience. $25 dry camping, $40 with hook ups. Safe, clean, close to everything.

No, it is not a park. No frills. But great dog walks (put them on a leash folks... is that too much to expect? And for Godsake, pick up your mess) and just hangin out. We camped at Orange County Fair & Events Center in a Motorhome.

Saddleback Campground, Northwood, New Hampshire

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Wow, what a delight! I've had to write a few stinker reviews lately, so now, while I really should be working, I'm delighted to be writing this. My stay here started out amazing, and just got better. The reservation phone call, my greeting upon arrival by the owner, then his son (maybe 14?) showing me to my spot; what delightful people who truly care, and it shows in every aspect of this place. The spots do not have water or sewer, just electric, but everything is close by and convenient. The price of $17.50 with Passport America is such a bargain, I am amazed. I normally travel through Good Sam, and this park was not on their list. I'm so glad I checked PA or I would have missed this gem! I'm sitting under my awning, enjoying a gentle rain, looking out over the beautiful pond. I'm surrounded by beautiful planter boxes (someone has a gift for planting boxes!), in this incredibly tidy and neat little park. It is a "park," as beautiful as any park I've been in, with little rolling hills giving different elevations. Each site has tons of space, a picnic table, manicured grass, and a well-placed fire pit. The little pond has specified use areas; frog catching & fishing, a swimming beach and some little sit and appreciate areas. The whole place is gravel, so no riding bikes, but there is a very well equipped playground, and the little "swimmin hole" for kids. Oh and frog catching? That beats riding bikes any day! The bathrooms are rustic; painted cinder block, but very adequate, well kept and VENTILATED. OMG I wish other places understood the importance of this. They even have a hotel-type hair dryer in them! There is a little storage building next to the bathhouse with a "honor system" washer and dryer. This place has everything. I wish I could get some work done instead of sitting out here enjoying it! Get site 1 or A1 right along the pond, although almost all the sites have a pond view. We camped at Saddleback Campground in a Motorhome.

Beautiful park. I was there in July, and there were just 3 of us in the whole campground! Beautiful place to walk, very tidy and neat, level sites with everything you need, rangers were wonderful, can't say enough nice things about this place. We camped at Martinak State Park in a Motorhome.

Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake, Port Republic, New Jersey

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

I've never flamed an RV park before, but this one earns it. I have never been somewhere with so much garbage around. The first time I parked, I went out my side door into a huge pile of vomit. I moved. Ok, not gonna fault the park there. BUT, the sheer amount of trash in the bushes, trees, piled in the dumpsters, behind the dumpster all over the ground; and this was not after a big weekend. I saw cars driving to put their garbage in this piled high dumpster, and was a bit bewildered about it, until I was walking my dog and went to throw a poo bag away (maybe a first for this park), and saw the sign on another dumpster that said "if this dumpster is full, find another." It seems a small thing to get more dumpsters! Really! The water is rusty; I had to break out my filter for that. Between the serious cat infestation and the ever-so-enticing vomit pile in the site next door, walking my dog was a challenge. The two loose (unrelated) pit bulls were scary, so I walked with my pepper-spray at the ready. I was acres away from any bathhouse, but they had the solution! A porta potty! Way out in back was better than the crammed area on the other side with cars blocking any possible way into your site. Did I mention this place charged $47??? No discounts for anyone, other than 1000 trails. There were volkswagon sized potholes in the road full of water (no rain for 2 days) that there was no way around without getting stuck in the mud. Fortunate for me, I have a little 24' class C, so I made a 15 point turn and went back the way I had come in. So much for pull through! The water spigot leaked so badly, running down the cable wire that I wonder how much longer it will work, though. The cable worked, though, and the gals in the office were nice. Those are the only 2 nice things I can say about this park. This was my introduction to New Jersey. I sure hope it gets better. We camped at Thousand Trails / Chestnut Lake in a Motorhome.

Williamsburg / Busch Gardens Area KOA, Williamsburg, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $77.00
Overall Rating:

I think I would have had a different experience if I had stayed in the "quiet" side. At $77 per night, I expect a lot. The Colonial side (the one I am in; I was not aware of "the other side") is full of families, and looks to be the hip place if you have kids. I do not. Mine is all grown up. So this is kinda unpleasant for me. I can't get into the pool because there are (I counted them) 22 kids in there, and anymore, that's just too much spit and snot for me. The kids are running about having fun, and being kids, and that's loud.

I would have liked the option to be on the old fuddy-duddy side, but that wasn't given to me. Now that I know, I'm bitter... grumpy old fart, lol. The pool looks nice (although a bit murky now at 4:30pm), lots of fun things for kids. But don't stay here if you're retired and looking for peace. Lots are spacious and offer some shade. Site surface was gravel and featured a fire ring, picnic table and patio.

THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE, the Williamsburg side. Avoid the Colonial side unless you have the grandkids with you. OH, my site was NOT level, it is graded to the right. The cable is good, but I only have 1 bar for Atnt, and I work from "home." There was a bunch of dog-food dumped in the driveway I had to clean up because my prissy dog can't have that kind of food. We camped at Williamsburg / Busch Gardens Area KOA in a Motorhome.

Holt's Shell RV Park, Gila Bend, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

This is a no-frills kinda parking lot, with good hook ups and some amenities. There is a subway within close walking distance, and a little store. It is actually a well stocked little store! Friendly staff to check in. I have a dog and he wasn't too keen about the walking areas; all gravel and it was really hot, but for the price and a quick stop over, it is very adequate. Well kept and clean. We camped at Holt's Shell RV Park in a Motorhome.

Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort, El Centro, California

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $11.00
Overall Rating:

This is a really nice RV resort. I dare say, one of the nicest I've stayed in, and I travel most of the year. It makes me wish I golfed. If you golf, and you RV, this is a must stop. Beautiful course. Driving range, convenient, looks to be kinda fun! I wish I could hike along the edges, but due to the obvious safety concerns I could not. Nice office, lots of permanent onsite homes. This is one place I would definitely consider spending time, if I was to stay somewhere for any length. Great value with PA. We camped at Rio Bend RV & Golf Resort in a Motorhome.

Arizona Oasis RV Resort , Ehrenberg, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

Wow, was I surprised. This is one of the few RV Resorts that I wouldn't mind paying full price ($40)! (ok, yeah, I'm cheap). Super friendly helpful staff, nice comfy spots, RIGHT on the Colorado River with plenty of chairs, hammocks, CLEAN beaches. I can even take my dog on the beach! Everyone is super friendly and considerate, well laid out, great pool & Jacuzzi, lots of fun stuff to do. Right before I had to leave they had a craft thing where we built spinners with beads and stuff (It sounds really tacky, but it was fun and they're cute!), they have bonfires and happy hours, and all sorts of great stuff. Great Cable service, their internet is nothing to write home about... I do have to say that. I will be BACK! https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g31214-d7692729-r460257526-Arizona_Oasis_RV_Resort-Ehrenberg_Arizona.html# We camped at Arizona Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Pato Blanco Lakes RV Resort, Benson, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I read other reviews and wonder if we stayed in the same place? I was assigned, I think #56? About 75 yards from the interstate. OMG loud. This is where old single wides go to die. The "Lakes" are two small overpopulated duck ponds because they feed the critters so they are two Basket-ball court sized duck-toilets. We camped at Pato Blanco Lakes RV Resort in a Motorhome.

High Chaparral, Casa Grande, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2017 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

Really crowded, but Really nice. The place is cheek-to-jowl snowbirds. lots of Canadians, Michigan, Minnesota. I liked walking around reading the license plates. Everyone very friendly. Great gate out to the desert for my dog to run. Jacuzzi & Pool. Super nice staff. Other than that, kinda depressing if you ask me. They had stuff going on every night. Tonight is game night. I gave it a higher rating because it was so stinking cheap. I stayed at a place that was actually not even this nice last night, and it was 2x as expensive, so they get snaps for knowing what to charge. We camped at High Chaparral in a Motorhome.

Nice campground, easy to get to. Dog loved the river. Old and a bit of litter around, but nice grassy areas for paws and right near Laughlin. Stay up front. The sites in the back are full timers and a bit rugged. We camped at Davis Camp Park in a Motorhome.

Huntington / Fox Fire KOA, Milton, West Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Fantastic little place! Yes it is close to the road and you can hear the road noise; but that's the price you pay for convenience. At night, the "night sounds" drown it out. I sat outside under a huge tree and watched deer nibble about in the field amidst the fire flies...magical. Loads of lovely trees and grass. Yes, it's been there awhile, but it is nicely kept. The cabins are all along a very pretty little pond (not for swimming), and there is a swimming hole for the kiddos with loads of floaties. No more murky than most ponds I've seen. Staff is friendly and helpful. They could use a folding table in the laundry room. That's about all I could fault them for. The difficulty of the turn in is highly over-rated. I'm a middle aged woman hauling a 23' travel trailer with no particular skill and it was easy. Go slow. If you're going fast you deserve to have problems with the turn. It is easy to miss the first time, but go just .1 miles on down the road and there are loads of easy places to turn around. I have made something of a ritual of missing the campground driveways the first time. I'm sure I'm not alone there. We camped at Huntington / Fox Fire KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground, Beckley, West Virginia

Date of Stay: June, 2014 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

What a great find! Small campground, check-in is a bit hard to find (is in the mining exhibit office) but worth the effort! They have a fantastic exercise trail that is wonderful to walk if you are neither young nor fit ; ) There is a great water park adjacent and a nice little playground. The sites are back in, but easy, level and up in the trees. Great value, quiet and lovely. What more could you ask for? We camped at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine Campground in a Travel Trailer.
