Desert View RV Resort, Needles, California

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Third time I've stayed here and it's still my favorite spot in Needles. Gravel sites, plenty of shade and privacy, Large concrete patio for tables/chairs, great, friendly management. Previously I stayed a month and the charge for electricity was new to me but was very reasonable. Lots of snowbirds this time of year and they are wonderful people. Only a week this year for the Needles High Alumni Reunion (I was the MC) I'll be back next year for a few weeks. No cable TV as far as I know but several over the air stations from Las Vegas and Phoenix. We camped at Desert View RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Needles has no supermarket. Nearest Safeway/Smiths is 10 miles up the river in Arizona. Fuel is very inexpensive at an Arco just across the river in Arizona and at the Safeway Restaurants Juicy's and the Wagon Wheel for Chinese, Mexican. Fast food is a couple miles away, Dairy Queen, Carl's, Mcdonalds, Jack in the Box. There is a 99cent only store, a couple dollar stores and the Rite Aid drug store is at the extreme east end of Needles, just off the last Needles freeway exit.

Mother Lode Fairgrounds, Sonora, California

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed in advance of the Strawberry Music Festival near Tuolumne, arriving on A Wednesday afternoon. First come-first served, envelope system for payment. Full hookups and wonderful water.

The upper RV sites are in shade and pretty level in an open, park-like setting. There were a few other campers nearby, all music festival attendees.

Fine place to camp: easily accessible off the highway and close to town for all our shopping needs in advance of a 4-day music event. We camped at Mother Lode Fairgrounds in a Travel Trailer.

Sonora is a wonderful, historic town with all the modern conveniences. Beautiful to visit and walk, plus the shopping experience in town and dining experience was perfect for us.

Sooke River Campground, Sooke, British Columbia

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

All grass campground with HUGE spaces on the Sooke river. WiFi was spotty without my external adapter but the hosts are great. It's very quiet and close to shopping and a good place to stay to hit all the wonderful beaches and spots from Victoria to Port Renfrew. Lots of weekend tent campers make it a nice family park. We camped at Sooke River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Portland Fairview RV Park, Fairview, Oregon

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here two years ago and the experience was such that we didn't look elsewhere. First class facilities. Great for HUGE, diesel-powered bus-type rigs. Sounds like a truck stop sometimes. Near a busy road and a RR track but still quiet and well worth the price. It's out in the country so a drive to Portland or Vancouver but that may be a blessing. The hosts are wonderful and the facilities very clean and in great shape. We camped at Portland Fairview RV Park in a Travel Trailer.
