Rutledge Lake RV Park, Fletcher, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This is a NEW campground, and as such is only partially complete. Limited number of back-in sites only, with gravel/dirt interior roads and site surface. On-site owners are friendly, helpful with local area info, and it is obvious they take great pride (rightfully so!) in their future plans for the complete park. Interior roads are okay considering park is still under construction, and are big-rig friendly. (Though, due to only back-in spaces currently ready for use, we did have to unhook the toad.) Site length and width were fine, utilities worked fine. We look forward to coming in future years as they continue to develop what will be a very nice campground. We will come again. We camped at Rutledge Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

NC Zoo is less than 3 miles from this campground. Walkways inside zoo are mostly shaded so comfortable even on hot days - wear comfy shoes! Zoo has a unique interactive exhibit, 'Air Hike', with ziplines, cable walks, swinging step paths, etc (for additional fee). Zoo is divided into Africa and North America continents - allow 1 day for each. Very nice Zoo! Shopping and restaurants are also close by in Asheboro, NC.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground, Asheboro, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $51.00
Overall Rating:

This is a NEW park, 1st opened Memorial Day 2016. Park only partially developed at this time, and has limited number of back-in spaces available for now. This will be a wonderful park when construction is finished! And each year 2017 (more sites / restrooms & bathhouse being finished by year-end), and 2018 (pool and plans for pull-through sites to be ready). Current back-in sites have nice spacing, and privacy. All interior roads are dirt/gravel, and sites are dirt/gravel. Sites are mostly level, interior roads okay keeping in mind this is a park still being developed. On-site owners are very helpful, friendly, and their interest in making your stay positive and comfortable shows! At 45 ft and towing, interior roads are big-rig friendly, check-in was smooth and convenient. (We, of course, did have to unhook toad due to only back-in sites available. ) We will stay again and look forward to the new changes yet to come. We camped at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Asheboro, NC close by with shops / restaurants. NC Zoo 3 miles from this Jellystone. WONDERFUL ZOO is quite large, allow 2 days to see (zoo is divided into Africa and North American continents - allow 1 day each). Unique at this zoo is an 'Air Hike' interactive exhibit (added cost with zip lines, suspended cable-walks & swinging wooden step paths, etc). Very clean, walkways between exhibits mostly shaded, comfortable on a hot day -- wear comfy shoes!

Clinton / Knoxville North KOA, Clinton, Tennessee

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Owners of this campground have recently invested in upgrades to this park and it shows!! Interior roads and sites have excellent gravel coverage, sites are level, and all utililities worked fine. Some sites SAT friendly, some have partial shade, most are pull-through, all have good cable reception and channels. We did not use the park Wi-Fi, but our Verizon hot spot, & AT & T cell phones worked fine. Owners have designed adequate spacing between sites with grassy areas -- which is much appreciated! Check-in was smooth and quickly accomplished, with an escort to our site. At 45 ft &/towing, easy to maneuver into site without unhooking. We did choose to disconnect when exiting site, and used parking lot space available near office to re-connect before leaving the cg. Very clean campground, very well maintained. Staff very friendly, helpful info for local restaurants/shopping nearby. Adequate grassy areas to walk the pet! Ours was an overnight, but would stay longer to sight see in the area next time. Very pleasant stay - thank you! We will come again. We camped at Clinton / Knoxville North KOA in a Motorhome.

Point South / Yemassee KOA, Yemassee, South Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

EZ on-off I-95, exit 33, to get to this KOA. Staff very helpful with local sight seeing info. Café on-site Pizza was good. Heavy tree canopy, (not particularly SAT friendly but cable had good reception & channels), gravel interior rds and sites. Although KOA directory lists fishing ..Fishing pond is not kept stocked and signs warning 'alligator/alligator preserve area' near the fishing pond. We did not partake of any of the nature trails --Not sure if it was the time of year (May-early June) or if another time of year/season would have less 'biting bugs.' Otherwise, pull through site was appropriate for our type/size rig, site was level, utilities all worked fine and utility connections appropriately spaced. Several MH at 45ft w/towed were in cg while we stayed, all were able to maneuver interior roads and sites -- but with care; need to watch mature tree locations at site & interior roads. Obvious how well the on-site owners care for maintaining a clean, well-kept, campground. Very attractive plantings / statuary decorating the cg. Owner commitment to a 'clean / well-run' campground is evident as we saw LOTS of 'staff' working; staff would immediately 'show up' on any site newly vacated to clean fire ring, checking to make sure the 'pedestal breaker' is OFF, and so on. Check-in was smooth. We stayed a week. We would stay again. Many Revolutionary and Civil War sites within short driving distance to this KOA. Point South/Yemassee, SC area has local historical sites. And Beaufort, SC and Parris Island Military Base Museum are both excellent - Beaufort & Parris Island is an easy day-trip and about 25 miles from this KOA. A) Frampton Plantation and Old Sheldon Church Ruins (ca 1700s) are close to this KOA. B) Downtown Beaufort has many historical buildings to see. Only 1 historical home, Verdier House Museum, is open to the public for tours. We camped at Point South / Yemassee KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Downtown Beaufort streets are very narrow & parking is difficult to find. At Verdier House Museum docent about street name changes during Civil War & effect on 'legal' property owners. Museum on Parris Island has best local area history (& see excellent Marine video at Museum Theater). FYI - Parris Island Marine Base, check graduation dates (?most Fridays). Go Mon-Wed if possible; we went on a Thursday, it was crowded with families there for Friday Graduation events.
