Add-More Campground, Clarksville, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very well kept, pleasant no-frills place. We're here for a long-term work assignment so it fits our needs, but it may not be the place for someone with a family looking for a resort type place, as there is no place to ride a bike, no playground and no amenities other than a laundry room (which is nice). Some spaces are spacious, others are very close - depends on where in the campground you are. We camped at Add-More Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Louisville North Campground (formerly Louisville Metro KOA), Clarksville, Indiana

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Make sure to follow directions on the website to Exit 1 and Stansifer Road. Do not use GPS as that will take you to a 10' underpass.

I agree with what others have said. This is a very difficult park to maneuver around with the really tight spaces, narrow roads and culverts. The roads are so narrow, in fact, that they have orange posts up so you don't hit another camper while trying to turn. There's no landscaping, so it looks like a big parking lot. It's actually right behind a gas station (appears that the gas station is part of the park) so this must have been the parking lot for the gas station at some point before it was a campground. Most people only stay overnight or just a few days, (sadly, we're here for work from June until Oct. as there was nowhere else in the area near Louisville we could stay), and most of those rigs are nice. But around the perimeter are long term or permanent residents whose campers are old, filthy and falling apart. Real eyesore. Trains do sound like thunder and run constantly. I used to live near train tracks, so I know how to block out the sound. Power, water and sewer were good. We camped at Louisville North Campground (formerly Louisville Metro KOA) in a Fifth Wheel.

White Acres Campground, Bardstown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here because we came to Louisville for a long term work assignment and there was nowhere at all to stay for this week (Aug 1-6, 2017) due to the hot rod national finals other than having to dry camp in the parking lot at the Expo Center, which wouldn't work since I need electric all day and night and can't run the genny that long. We decided it was worth a longer commute - about 35 miles - to have full hookups. This is a very basic, but very pleasant place to stay. No amenities as this isn't a resort (although they do have a very nice playground for the kids), but it's very quiet and serene, the sites are spacious and include picnic tables and the grounds are very well kept. It's the kind of place you would go if you want to get away from it all. We camped at White Acres Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Kentucky Exposition Center, Louisville, Kentucky

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

What an awful place. Then again, this isn't a campground; it's basically a few spots in a parking lot that have hookups on the side for RVs. How they get away charging so much is beyond me. I guess most of the folks who use the sites particulate in events at the expo center, arena or the amusement park next door (which shares an entrance gate). The design of the hookups is atrocious as the water was on one side, the electric was about 50 feet away on the other side and the sewer was in the middle. The sewer was also encased with a metal plate - we needed a screw driver to pry it open. We had to park at a really strange angle to get everything hooked up - it will be a real nightmare hitching back up due to the angle we're at. There is only an attendant on duty who didn't seem to know much of anything except how to run the credit card. The office he worked in was a 6x6 box with no windows and filthy (like a mechanic's office). The adjacent rest rooms and showers were no better. This is also right behind Kentucky Kingdom amusement park so it was very noisy with music blaring. Also in the landing path for the airport, so constant planes flying overhead. We only came here because due to a huge hot rod rally in town next week, everything else was booked up. We could only stay 2 nights anyway, as this area will be cleared and we'll need to move to their dry camping area, where all the hot rodders will be. We camped at Kentucky Exposition Center in a Fifth Wheel.

Wytheville KOA, Wytheville, Virginia

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very lovely park, especially for families. So many activities, including a water slide in the pool, an arcade, a fishing pond, even a bowling alley! Has cafe and pizza place on site. Sites are spacious and shady, and the premises are very well kept. Wish I could stay more than overnight. Only real drawback is the cost (which is expected for a KOA), but we arrived earlier than check in time and had to pay an add'l $10 for early check in. We camped at Wytheville KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tranter's Creek Resort & Campground, Washington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

I love this place! I need to be here long term for work and I know I will be very happy here. Grounds are kept in impeccable shape; beautiful landscaping. I feel like I'm in a wide open field. I look out my window and see... nothing but grass and trees. For the RVs that are here, they are very nice. Great amenities, including playground for kids, beautiful pool (where you can actually swim laps), clubhouse with arcade games, billiards, air hockey, tv, Wii, organized activities. A creek (with fishing) borders the campground - I haven't visited there yet. BUT WHAT IMPRESSED ME MOST is how accommodating and helpful people are here. We first had a problem with our rig and then with our truck, rendering us pretty much helpless. I can't say enough how many folks came and offered to help us in any way possible. We camped at Tranter's Creek Resort & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

High Rock Lake Marina & Campground, Lexington, North Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very lovely, very rustic campground, set on a lake in the mountains. Reminds me of a state park. It is very peaceful and serene. My only complaints are that the drive to the campground and the roads around the campground are very narrow and winding, with a lot of steep hills. Being that the campground is on a mountain, none of the sites are anywhere near level. Manager (Corey) was extremely helpful and friendly. We camped at High Rock Lake Marina & Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Springwood RV Park, Greenville, South Carolina

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park has potential, and it was adequate for our purposes of a weekend stay, but I would not be happy for the long term. The spaces are very narrow and all the sites and roads are full of loose gravel and potholes on one side of the park. The other side is all on grass, although the roads around that area are a little wider and paved. Many of the other RVs look like permanent residents and are old and run down. I will say that the manager was extremely friendly and accommodating. The site they tried to put us into was at a very weird angle and after struggling for 1/2 hr trying to line it up to back in, the manager shuffled some things around and decided to give us a pull thru. She told us to go to one, and we had to drive around the bend several times before we could get the right angle to approach it. By then, she changed her mind and asked us to take a different site 2 spaces over. We drove around the bend again, and then she remembered she had a really huge bus coming in and couldn't give us that spot. So she moved us adjacent to the office. I'm not even sure this is a real spot, but there was electric, water and sewer hookups, so I won't complain. I would not stay here again if I had a choice. We camped at Springwood RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I-65 RV Campground, Creola, Alabama

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Customer service is good. This is an older, appearingly run down park. Although they take big rigs, it is extremely difficult to navigate as the access roads around the park are very narrow and windey. The sites are very narrow and there are a lot of trees, also making it difficult to navigate. There were no 50 amp sites, so we got a 30 amp. We must have had 1 too many things running, which blew out something. 4 hours later, they are still trying to find a breaker to replace. We chose to stay here so we didn't have to dry camp again, but it looks like we have to do that again anyway. They gave us the option to change sites, but since it's so difficult to navigate, we didn't want to deal with having to try to back in our 40' fifth wheel. I would not stay here again. We camped at I-65 RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Highway 6 RV Resort, Houston, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $13.00
Overall Rating:

Rate was $392 plus electric for a monthly. This is the best place I've ever stayed in! I agree with everything the previous poster said, although she forgot to mention the dog WASH station and catch & release man-made lake in the middle of the campground. I don't recall if she mentioned the uniquely shaped pool and hot tub, which are kept at 87 and 101 degrees, respectively and are open all year. Also the clubhouse with a full exercise room (universal, rowing machine, bike, elliptical, and treadmill - all state of the art), plus a billiards and shuffleboard table (as well as really cozy couches and recliner in front of the tv). Laundry was more modern and cleaner than most commercial laundromats and the showers were impeccable. My only "complaint" is that all that seemed to be missing was a playground for the kids (not a problem for me as I have none), but for families with little ones, it would give them a bit more to do. We camped at Highway 6 RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Sugar Land, about 10 miles south, is a lovely place to visit. It's also very close to Houston's "Chinatown" and pretty much any and every kind of cuisine you want is within reach. Only warning is that there's always a lot of traffic in Houston and the drivers are crazy!!! It about 25 miles to the downtown (city) area and 35 miles to NASA.

Owassa Lakeside RV Park, Evergreen, Alabama

Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Very Lovely Park. ALL PULL THROUGH spots. (not sure if) all were 50 AMP service. Note to new travelers: This campground is on a NON-Paved Road, it is rocky, and sandy, but not difficult to go in or out of.

We pulled in and out of this campground during nasty rain, and it was NOT difficult to maneuver, despite the rain. Some previous reviews complained about poor roads. Comparatively speaking, these roads are NOT any worse (and much better then ones found in parts of North and South Dakota) than average non-paved roads.

The park, although not paved, was lovely. Set up was extremely nice, with a convenient bath-house/laundry-room and walking paths (if not raining!) There was a little lake down a path but I didn't go there.

Only problem was that no one was in the office the entire time. There was a sign on the door to just pick a site and they'd find us, but they never showed up (we left $ in the box anyway). We camped at Owassa Lakeside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I agree with what others have said. Of the approx. 150 sites, there are about 30 set aside for short termers (14 days or less); the rest are permanent or very long term stays. Nothing really special about the park except for the location, and it's easy to get around within the park. I would stay again if I was passing through again. Jonesburg Gardens Campground, Jonesburg, Missouri

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

I find this to be a little gem of a park, but bear in mind that I came during off season, so it is practically empty and appears to be extremely spacious (it's hard to tell how close other trailers would be, but there does appear to be enough space between sites). The roads within the campground are a little narrow, but we were still able to navigate them, and the wifi has much to be desired. Otherwise I find this place to be very serene. Obviously, the pool is closed for the season, but it looks to be a nice area. There's a nice playground for the kiddies (DH and I even swung on the swings!) and 2 little lakes where you can fish without a license. Allegedly there's bass and some other stuff stocked there, but I wasn't able to try). The owner was very nice and helpful. I would definitely come back again.
